589816 tn?1332976771 Narcolepsy is an uncommon sleep disorder in children but can significantly impact kids who have it. This is evident in the Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT).
4592241 tn?1359813138 I know this is an old post but am hoping that you get this message. I was just diagnosed with Narcolepsy also and I am a recovering Meth addict. My doc knows my history and I am struggling to get the appropriate help here.
Avatar n tn My daughter has just been diagnosed with Narcolepsy. She is 12 years old and in February received polio/diptheria vaccine and hep A before going to mexico. She then started having these symptoms. she was given the HPV vaccine a couple of weeks ago and since her symptoms have seemed worse. No one can tell us if its linked or not but I really strongly think so!
Avatar f tn t need to have every symptom of narcolepsy to actually be diagnosed with it, however, you do need to have EDS (excessive daytime sleepiness). I was diagnosed with narcolepsy twice, and I am always exhausted as well and need to take naps during the day, however, I don't have cataplexy or sleep paralysis... It is really common for narcoleptics to have restless sleep at night as well, and the vivid hallucinations (along with noises) and dream-like feelings are also a key sign of narcolepsy.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with CFIDS in 1994. Narcolepsy in 2005. I get basically no stage 4 or Rem sleep at night. Its no wonder why our mind and muscles can't heal themselves. I can go into almost instant dreaming during day (MSLT naps). I haven't been able to get anyone to help me figure out how to correct my sleep cycle. If you get any ideas, let me know. (I am on meds to help sleep and keep me awake at the right times, but it hasn't helped the sleep cycles.
Avatar f tn I am diagnosis with narcolepsy and have had symptoms for 5 years now. I have been taking 500 mg. of nuvigil for over 2 years. Plus, 60 mg of adderall a day. My symptoms have slowed down a little, but I have to take 2 naps a day and not drive anywhere. I have sleep studies twice a year and it seems to get worse each time. Its very aggravating to me! It seems like something would help. I see a team of specialists at Vanderbilt, but I need something else, but what? Anyone have any suggestions?
Avatar f tn i was wondering if i should be tested for narcolepsy, or if diagnosed with narcolepsy would they prescribe me to something similar to adderrall? if this were the case, being tested would not matter much if they would give me the same medications anyways. I just dont want to be misdiagnosed and on the wrong medication for the rest of my life.
Avatar f tn The NARCOLEPSY was diagnosed much later and he was placed on Provigil 200 mg and the daytime is pretty good for him now. It would NOT be good if he were trying to stay awake without it. He'd be going to sleep while driving, reading, eating, watching TV and even an activity during which you'd never dream a male member of the human race could sleep through. Narcolepsy is nothing to treat lightly.
11941637 tn?1422287346 s or Lupus, has also been diagnosed with or shown symptoms of Narcolepsy. I have read recently that Narcolepsy has been determined to be auto-immune in nature, and wonder if the presence of one or both of these disorders in my genetics was the cause of my Narcolepsy. Has there been any research done on the subject?
Avatar f tn The sleep doctor who diagnosed his narcolepsy can answer this based on the sleep study that was performed for the diagnosis. Dr.
Avatar f tn At 16, my daughter finally had a sleep study. She met the criteria for narcolepsy. What I find puzzling is that her sleep problems were already there in infancy. She did not sleep excessively at first -- just very erratically, in short pieces of time. Even at 6 months old I could put her on her back and she would suddenly be asleep for 5-15 minutes (in the middle of an activity). 1- Can a BABY have narcolepsy?
Avatar f tn I still always feel fully rested. He diagnosed me, with a mild form of narcolepsy, and put me on Modafinil, and since being on it, I have yet to just pass out asleep randomly. He said he wants to do some more testing on me, an EEG and a nap study, as well... to make sure nothing else is going on... since usually with narcolepsy, you're sleepy all the time, and I am not. So, I was just wondering if this is just something that may be connected to chiari.
Avatar m tn Yes, narcolepsy can result in disturbed nighttime sleep. Narcolepsy can only be diagnosed with a multiple sleep latency test during the day (usually preceded by an all night sleep study). Dr.

1704625 tn?1310708761 Hello, everyone, I am fairly new to medhelp, and the sleep disorders community. I have narcolepsy, and was diagnosed about 4 years ago, or close to that. I was wondering if anybody else who has been diagnosed is still in denial after that long, questioning....maybe it's something else?! I can't believe I have narcolepsy.
Avatar f tn The vast majority of doctors have absolutely no idea what it is or what it looks like, and no routine lab tests, MRI, CT scan, x-ray or anything of that nature will detect it. 75% of people with narcolepsy never get diagnosed in their lifetime. It doesn't look the way you think it looks. Common misdiagnoses are depression, epilepsy, and migraines. I struggled for years to find an answer, and was misdiagnosed several times.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with severe narcolepsy last year and this year with temperol lobe seizures. I am on provigil 400 mgs a day and Ritalin as needed. I am trying to take lamictal just 25 to start increase to 200, but having some problems, may switch me to Keppra I have digestive upsets after some seizures, but recently I blanked out and when I came to, I had written odd things all over the papers I was grading. I then, no way to make this sound pretty, had a bowel movement in my pants.
Avatar n tn I have recently been diagnosed with narcolepsy. For years, I have suffered from EDS muscle weakness that has become worse as I have aged (mid-40's). In the beginning, I blamed it all on being single and burning the candle at both ends (20's); then being a new parent (30's) and then being a single mom to a child with narcolepsy and a preteen (now 40's). I was told I have mild cataplexy.

Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with narcolepsy approx. 5 yrs. ago. I haven't gone for another sleep study since, nor has my doctor seem to ever remember that I have narcolepsy. I am his only patient with narcolepsy, and if I ever end up in his office, it seems like he always forgets that I have narcolepsy. I don't believe he has a good understanding of this. Any suggestions. I am in the process of trying to switch my doctor, but in the meanwhile, I have been more tired lately than usual.
