Common Questions and Answers about Namenda and lewy body dementia

namenda

Avatar f tn My mom was diagnosed with Lewy Body dementia in October 2015. Her disease has progressed a lot in the last 4 months. I found out recently that one of her sisters also had dementia. My question, am I at a higher risk to get this disease? If so is there a time when symptoms would begin to show in me?
Avatar f tn Hi, I would like to understand which of the following disorders present with a sudomotor dysfunction: Parkinsons' Disease, Pure Autonomic Failure, Lewy Body Dementia and Multiple System Atrophy. Also, what is the approach used to differentiate between these four disorders from the QSART results?
Avatar f tn Alzheimers is one form of dementia actually. Dementia is the overall condition, and there are other caused like Lewy-Bodies, then there are forms caused by say, other conditions like having clogged carotids that are cutting off blood flow to the brain so the brain is not getting enough O2, and lungs not getting enough O2 so again the brain is not getting enough so the person can recover some on oxygen... also vitamin and hormone issues can be a problem.
Avatar n tn My dad passed away at 60 from what I thought was Alzheimers. I always had my doubts since my dad lost his motor skills (ability to walk/talk/write), had paranoia, and also would not sleep at all. Though his short and long term memory were in tact. I would see him about every 3 months and he always recognized me, my kids, my husband, etc. He also never forgot my mom - his caregiver. He would tell stories both current and from the past. He did not repeat things.
Avatar n tn He is on Namenda and Plavix, is it possible that Adderall could help with his short term memory loss. Before the accident he lived on his own.
Avatar m tn My husbands friends mother is on something that is new and she is doing better... I would discuss this again with the doctor and even if nothing else, maybe a mild tranquliser for the daytime would help..The ativan is good for situational anxiety but maybe your mother needs something a little stronger to quiet the chatter in her mind. I don't like meds but sometimes in cases like this we just have to make them comfortable.
Avatar f tn I read that lewy body dementia hallucinations are very vivid and not of what I described, that's what I was worried over however I've never heard of anyone under 30 with it and even then under 50 is extremely rare. Should I stop worrying?
Avatar n tn Is there any kind of help for people in the first stages of dementia beside Namenda.? Is there anything in the health food stores that can be taken.? And does vitamin B1 help.?
Avatar f tn Dementia is very clinically specific and only a neurologist could distinguish between that and psychosis though dementia usually involves forgetfulness and memory loss. I do know that elderly relatives I have that were diagnosed with dementia improved with the medication Namenda.
Avatar m tn Hi, welcome to the forum, dementia can be associated with the sleep disorders. They usually have a shallow sleep - mostly stage 1 and 2 - and are easily awakened. They also have trouble turning in bed, and i also associated with restlessness in bed. Sometimes patients may be awakened by choking episodes at night that are triggered by sleeping on their backs. These can be effectively treated by addition of dopamine agonist dose against prescription at bedtime.
Avatar n tn He is delusional, on disability and is taking Zyprexa, Amantadine, Namenda, Cymbalta and excelon patch. Still, he seems to worsen. He now has symptoms of Parkinsons with balance issues. He is 55 years old - much to young to be this dibilitated. He was tremendously active, a college graduate who owned his own business. I just cannot accept that after beating all the odds and surviving we are now dealing with this. Do you have any suggestions?
Avatar f tn high speed crash but no head injury at the time however next day suffered what seem to be a seizure where coffee in my right hand went flying over the floor and the whole body shaking violently and blacked out for a few seconds. Had my partner with me who saw the whole thing. Put it down to stress of the car accident. On return to work found it difficult to pitch poker cards and found my right leg shaking under the table. Again thought this to be the stress from the accident.
Avatar n tn My 82 yr old Mother has alzheimers( I believe Lewy Body). She has started having agitation and agrressive verbal outburts, up at night, paranoia. Dr wants to put her on Abilify, but I am very concerned about the side effects of this drug.
Avatar n tn First of all his doctor changed and titrated his blood pressure medications and also they found Namenda to be quite helpful.
Avatar n tn A year and a half ago the doctor said he had the first stages of dementia. It seems to be getting worse. He is taking Namenda. He also has a heart condition and a lung condition. He is on oxygen 24/7. He is also a diabetic with kidneys not working properly. Will vitamin B1 help with his dementia.? or is there anything else he could take or do.?
585414 tn?1288941302 Yes I am somewhat familiar with that. For example Namenda which is used to treat dementia is in clinical study as a mood stabilizer and to treat tardive dyskinesia. However as those medications specifically effect those receptors by mitigating their activity they work in an opposite manner to glycine and the NMDA receptor modulates.
Avatar f tn How do I find a neurologist who is educated in Effexor withdrawal? I have a mild seizure disorder, my Mother was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia, and I am "addicted" to Effexor, which I have taken for 10 years and cannot seem to break free from. Put that all together and I feel as though my worsening memory issues spell our DEMENTIA in big, bold letters. Can anyone make any suggestions? Thanks...
Avatar f tn i gave my mom a good holiday....she keeps trucking at 92 w/that damn Lewy Body Dementia...2 day i talked to a family that just placed their dad in same place my mom is......2 young....age 69!made me feel good to offer them some wisdom and support!
Avatar n tn I know from elderly family members that had minor dementia that they responded well to Namenda but decisions as regards treating dementia would have to be made by a neurologist.
1731403 tn?1320899207 Thank u for posting good advice!i've been sober/clean now for 28 years.I loved a man in 05 who was clean from cocaine for 3 yrs.He relapsed and began to treat me w/the utmost cruelty and verbal abuse that i tried to weather and guide him to recovery. He wanted no part of it.This was during a time that my dad died,my mom went to the psych unit and later correctly dx'd w/Lewy Body Dementia, and a medical issue w/me plus 2 deaths of my cat and beloved greyhound.
Avatar f tn We finally found a doctor who says there are 3 groups of seniors, those with dementia, those with dementia and depression and those just with depression and they all need to be treated differently. As we have gotten my mom off of these meds, the hallucinations have stopped. She takes Pamelor for depression and depakote for anxiety.
5466288 tn?1410485185 My mother who died almost 3 yrs ago before she could be diagnosed, had been seeing a neuro who told my sister he thought she might have a form of dementia called Lewy Body Dementia. She had been hallucinating, lost her appetite, was falling frequently and injuring herself. She had to use a walker to get around because her movements were no longer smooth.
Avatar f tn She did a mini neuro/cognitive eval and said this may be something more than MS. Now she has prescribed Namenda XR for me. I googled it and it says it's for Alzheimers. I do have family that have/had dementia/Alzheimers. Does anyone else with MS take this??? Or do you know anyone with MS that takes it? From what I read, it makes symptoms worse with people who have MS. Sad face...
Avatar n tn My mom suffers from this lewy body dementia, and i wish there was something more effective out there other than aricept or exelon... If anyone knows anything about REMBA, please drop me a line.... I thank you and good luck to you ,or your loved one!
Avatar n tn My mom's medication regeime has had risperdal added to it. She is alteady on zoloff and the standards for alzeheimer's including namenda. Since putting her on the risperdal she sleeps all the time, has had a to be restarted on blodd pressure medication and seems to be losing her mtor skills. I am very concened about these changes and wonder if the risperdal is the right dosage or medicine.
Avatar n tn In subsequent medical reviews with a geriatric psych and clinicians, they felt there was no dementia, but did feel there was deep depression and the executive dysfunction. My mother hates going to doctors and she now lives 2800 miles away from me, closer to my sister. My sister is equally anti doctor, so it makes further diagnosis difficult.
