I get white spots in my fingernails. Its from hitting your nail on something. I think its like a "nail bruise". Do you think this could be it?

From what I have read the spots are due to damage to the nail, like bumping the nail. They only disappear when the nail grows. Although, don't know if we are referring to the same type of spots.

i have these white bands on my nails, and then a dark band above that, then the white tips of my nail. i've read the white bands could be a sign of serious illness and i'm very concerned. does anyone know what this is? i''m a 16 year old female if it makes any difference.

My canker sore did not get smalller, it got much larger (larger than my thumb nail now) and changes colour every day, from green with red spots to white and brown. Hello, for the past 2 months I have has dark spots on one of my finger nails with a white patch over the top. It also have a light brown bruise colour underneath. I haven't injured myself, its not sore and not a fungal infection or deficiency/dietary according to my GP. I sae him a month ago and he told me to keep an eye on it and come back if it's not gone.

Is it like funny lines of white? I know i went through a stage where if i tapped my nail on something it'd leave a white mark. I'm not 100% but i think it could happen when you don't have enough calcium, and knock your nails.

But base of my toe nail has turned bluish black and I feel there is a displacement in the nail position. The nail has moved forward displaced from its roots. At the top of the fingernail, where it grows out fron the finger, is a small semi-circle of white then the rest of the finger nail is pinkish. Now I have noticed a few more spots. In all I have excatly 9 spots. But only on my arms and legs. These spots r white,small and properly round in shape. I went to another doc. And he has told I have vitiligo and has prescribed "elidel" and a corticosteroid "metaz". Now the name Vitiligo freaks me out. I am completely confused and depressed. Scared to go to another doc and get to know the name of a third disease. Is there anyone out there who can help me?

I went to the doctors earlier as iv been having pigmentation spots on my face since 2001. She told me i have Pityriasis alba and it will go away in time, can you tell me how this is caused? And also, for a long time iv been having pale/purple finger nails quite oftenly. I also have a problem with seeing blood (such as cuts) i dont know why. I saw your reply after I posted a reply to Ghilly. Your idea is very interesting and certainly seems like another very good reason to use a Dremel rather than clippers. I took a look at my dog's nails and I see what I think are the spots you mention but I'm not sure because on her one white nail where I can plainly see the quick, there is a spot on the tip of her nail that is about 1/8" from the quick. Do you usually see the spot your are talking about that far from the quick?

It appears as though both of my big toes have a new nail growing in underneath the old nail. The old Nail is raised up quite a bit compared to the new growth, which is about 1/4". I also can see a line on both nails that appears to be where the new nail is at, and that is about 75% to the end of my toe. The new nail looks totally fine. I'm 25 years old. None of my other toenails are affected. No pain or other symptoms of any kind.
