Nail fungus undecylenic acid

Common Questions and Answers about Nail fungus undecylenic acid

Avatar n tn the undecylenic acid thins out the nail. i am afraid that this medication is also eroding the surrounding skin. the best way to thin out the nail is to get a nail dermabrasion. then, following with antifungal creams (eg ketoconazole cream). or, you can have the nails removed and apply the antifungal cream (ketoconazole) to the new nails. if you have permanent nail separation, the nail bed is diseased and will prevent future nail attachment.
Avatar f tn This issue has been getting increasingly worse in the past couple of years. I find that when my feet get moist either from getting sweaty in a pair of shoes or when in the shower, bath or pool, the skin on my toes turns white, especially surrounding my toenails. I know that I've already got an issue with nail fungus, which I'm trying to treat naturally with an anti-fungal liquid which contains undecylenic acid.
Avatar n tn Can it affect the nail up to the toe. The nail is very painful if i gently touch it. Fungus does not cause pain. But can arthritis affect nail? What could u recommend? any tests to calm myself? What kind of blood or urine tests should i do? And from ur experience could it be arthritis from the nail up to the toe? To mention that the nail is kinda seperated from the flesh, and it hurts alot. Thank you very much for your valuable suggestions. S.
460830 tn?1347219306 You can consult a pharmacist and get any cream or lotion containing these ingredients. Undecylenic acid (a castor oil derivative) is a known fungicide and Whitfield’s ointment can also be used for fungal skin infections such as athlete's foot. You can take ketoconazole tablets but they should be used after a dermatologist’s guidance. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn Hello, From the symptoms it looks like fungal nail infection or trauma skin. An infection of nail fungus occurs when fungi infect one or more of your nails. Nail fungus can be difficult to treat, and repeated infections are common. Over-the-counter antifungal nail creams and ointments are available, but they aren't very effective. You need to get a KOH examination and fungal culture of the nail scrapings done and then oral antifungals prescribed.
Avatar n tn You are describing states of nail fungus actually. What works well is pure tea tree oil. It smells strong, but it works well. If any part of the nail has separated from the skin, as often happens, cut that part of the nail off. Even if it has not yet separated, cut the nail as short as you can without injuring yourself. Then apply the tea tree oil twice a day to ALL your nails. Wash socks and underwear in hot water with baking soda .Keep your feet clean and dry.
Avatar f tn I went to the doctor and was told I had nail fungus and needed Lamisil. One tablet, once a day for 3 months. They took and ran tests of my blood to test my liver and they said all tests came back normal. They went ahead and said to begin taking the medication. I'm 21 and relatively healthy. I'm afraid to take Lamisil though. I've heard the side effects are horrible. Should I be worried?
Avatar m tn There is no treatment that will reattach the nail to the nail bed, just have to wait for a new nail to grow. Do not insert acid under your nail as this can lead to further complications such as a sub-ungal ulcer. I would not waste your time seeing a dermatologist instead go to a foot professional (podiatrist), they will be able to cut your nail so that it doesnt catch on clothing, assess if you have a fungal infection and provide you will the best treatment for it.

1430129 tn?1283281475 I have a nail fungus that I've dealt with for nearly two years. I have had my doctor prescribe cream, I also took Lamisil (spelling?) I went to the dermatologist with my son yesterday, and he told me to file the side of my nail with the fungus all the way down, he said in order to get rid of the fungus that's in my nail, I have to get rid of that part of my nail. Is this true? I also think I have a fungus on one of my toenails.
Avatar n tn It appears as though both of my big toes have a new nail growing in underneath the old nail. The old Nail is raised up quite a bit compared to the new growth, which is about 1/4". I also can see a line on both nails that appears to be where the new nail is at, and that is about 75% to the end of my toe. The new nail looks totally fine. I'm 25 years old. None of my other toenails are affected. No pain or other symptoms of any kind.

Avatar f tn I might be in the wrong forum as well but I was prescribed lamisil after a positive test for Onychomycosis on my toenails. I was told to take one tablet a day for 3 months. My doctor did check my liver before starting and he called to say everything was normal and to go forth with the treatment. I've heard so many bad things from hair loss, death, loss of taste and I'm so scared.
Avatar f tn I unexpectedly got nail fungus last year, and I treated it with topical tea tree oil and I took Dr Mercola's Probiotic Packs Daily for bout 2 monts, it cleared it up and they have been fine since.
Avatar n tn Hi, Since your nail condition has not been given proper diagnosis ,you may discuss with your physician a nail biopsy. Nail biopsy is done to determine the cause of the condition. Based on the results of the biopsy, your physician may opt for nail surgery as a method of treatment. For patient who underwent nail surgery indications include chronic infections like fungal infections , nail tumors (which I believe is not applicable in your case) and in some trauma and unknown causes. Avatar n tn I was okay trying to control(possibly) the fungus on my toes and my thumb and index fingernails. Now it needs like what my wife is having(black dot on her thumb) now resembles what I had once upon a time. I don't want her to fight with fungus. I did see a dermatolgist yesterday and she said my toes are likely fungus-related but she had I didn't have enough nail for samples. Prescribed me Penlac(sp?) and asked me to go back when the toenails grow out... I am so confused now.

Avatar n tn Hello, From the symptoms fungal infections of the nail need to be ruled out. In onychomycosis(nail fungal infection) nail plate can have a thickened, yellow, or black appearance. The nails can become rough and crumbly, or can separate from the nail bed. Topical and oral antifungals are needed which are available under prescription. My sincere advice would be to consult a dermatologist and get a KOH examination of the nail and skin specimen done to confirm the diagnosis.
483814 tn?1214311480 It has definitely helped me with the recurring nail fungus, which was extremely irritating, especially as a woman, because you contaminate your nail polish over and over.
