Avatar m tn I am being successfully treated for a rare autoimmune condition with 15 mg prednisone and 1 gr mycophenolate daily. Although mycophenolate use involves a risk of opportunistic HSV infections, I was not warned about this. I recently had sex WITH A CONDOM with a partner whose status for HSV infection is unknown. Within about a day, I had developed numerous lesions. These spread rapidly and my doctor said they had an appearance consistent with HSV.
778275 tn?1326913623 I can sort of answer your first question. Mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) or Cellcept has been extensively researched for its use in myasthenia gravis. Also, it carries a FDA black box warning that it may increase your chances of infection, lymphoma and congenital malformations (for pregnant women). Also, its optimal dose is yet undecided. Pyridostigmine (Mestinon) is the usual first line treatment for MG.
Avatar m tn In addition, we found significantly increased IFN-α levels in SLE patients. The prevalence of HBV infection in SLE patients was lower than that in sex- and age-matched non-SLE controls in southern China. The characteristic IFN signatures in SLE may favor the subsequent clearance of HBV.
Avatar m tn sDNA is highly diagnostic of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and implicated in the pathogenesis of lupus nephritis (inflammation of the kidney caused by SLE). High calcium can be seen with SLE due to either the immune system targeting the parathyroid glands (extremely rare) or more commonly due to kidney problems.

1054753 tn?1339968724 i do not think that the loose bowel movements are directly related to the transplant itself. they could be from the medications such as mycophenolate or ursodiol. sometimes certain infections can also contribute. If the liver tests are OK, then the loose bowel movements are not from the liver.
Avatar m tn additional agents such as mycophenolate (cellcept) may be necessary or in cases of severe rejection a medication such as thymoglobulin may be needed.
Avatar m tn My doc is trying to reduce the dose. Since I was on tacrolimus only(as Mycophenolate causes TLC to go down in two occasion), sirolimus 1mg is started along with reduced tacrolimus(2mg BD, Tac level ~4.5). But the creatinine is still high(1.8). It seems some side effect of Sirolimus is also coming as the TLC is 3400 and platelet is 80,000. What do you suggest to bring creatinine under control? What is the way to determine the exact required dose of tacrolimus?
Avatar f tn I was dx with SLE about 9 months ago. I don't have a lot of symptoms besides the malar rash and photo sensitivity with a high ANA. My rheumatologist usually takes months between appointments and she doesn't seem overly concerned, but I'm freaking out. Well not really but I am concerned about my future. Can anyone tell me what types of things I should expect and if there are any things that are more urgent that would require immediate attention?
Avatar m tn The standard therapy options include intravenous immunoglobulin and plasmapharesis, corticosteroids, azathioprine, cyclophosphamide, etanercept, mycophenolate mofetil, interferon alpha 2a and tacrolimus. Current ones are interferon beta 1a, rituximab, and high dose cyclophosphamide. Your neurologist needs to apprise you of the long-term side effects since prolonged therapy are required. Botox shots are not known to be used in therapy.
Avatar m tn Are you sure it isn't SLE. Just wondering because I have never heard of SLV. SLE is Systemic Lupus.
Avatar f tn 22 years ago). One of my sisters has SLE. One of my sisters has had various symptoms suggestive of SLE for years, but no dx. OK, that's the background. My daughter (27) has for years had oral ulcers & sometimes had sun rashes. She has been tested a few times over the past 10 years. Never a dx of anything - but sometimes a slightly low WBC count & one time a slightly positive ANA. She went to the doctor this week for recurrent chest pain (cardiac was quickly ruled out).
Avatar f tn Triggers for anti-chromatin autoantibody production in SLE. LUPUS Dec. 2002, Sage Journals "Chromatin Antibody plays a central role in the autoimmune response in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Approximately 90% of patients with SLE have sera that will exhibit reactivity to nucleosomes." ---Source: Quest Diagnostics Patients with positive Scl-70 and/or Chromatin auto-antibodies do not necessarily have SLE, Scleroderma or other autoimmune disease.
Avatar f tn At this moment my VA disability rating is being raised (hopefully) because my SLE is a service connected disability and the Bipolar disorder and ADHD are secondary conditions resulting from the lupus and require further review and a higher disability rating.
Avatar m tn If someone also has symptoms of SLE, such as arthritis, a rash, and autoimmune thrombocytopenia, then she probably has SLE. In cases such as these, a positive ANA result can be useful to support SLE diagnosis. Two subset tests for specific types of autoantibodies, such as anti-dsDNA and anti-SM, may be ordered (often as an ENA panel) to help confirm that the condition is SLE. A positive ANA can also mean that the person has drug-induced lupus.
Avatar m tn t find anything on SLV - are you sure it is not SLE (Lupus)? There are treatments out there. Lots on the internet and click on the blue LUpus word in the community description and there is some good information.
Avatar n tn Hi there, I am 39 years old and suffer from SLE. I have had visual problems for more than a year now in the the form of snow/static, the sensation of light in my vision (like if you stared at a bright light and then looked around) a black floater in my right eye, sensitivity to bright light, decreased night vision. I have failed two VF tests, and seen a retinal specialist who states that I have retinitis pigmentosa. Some of the symptoms fit, but not all.

Avatar m tn My daugher is 13 years old and has had the following bloodwork and symptoms: Low WBC 2.8 (for over 4 months); Positive ANA 1:1280; Positive Chromatin 1.8; rashes; fatigue; aching, allergies and acne. I've been told by one doctor that she has some sort of auto immune disease, but doesn't think it's SLE because she tested negative for anti-DNA test, an anti-SM test and an anti-RNP. While another said it could possibly be SLE.
Avatar f tn Hi, I am a 48 yr.old female living with SLE. fibromyalgia. celiatic sprue, and arthritis. All of course resulting in depression and sleep disturbances. In addition to the sunburn rash I have on a daily basis to my chest, I have just recently been diagnosed with a skin disease known as granuloma annulare, cause unknown, but possibly related to a diabetic rash. I also have had a reoccurring out break of extreme itches from head to toe.
