recently diagnosed of sle with lupus nephritis type v and is currently on omnacortil(prednisolone) 40mg/day and chloroquine at 24 yrs of age now ive started to notice my moon like face after 2 weeks and its getting wierd and wierd.is there any way to be out of my new face ...

Thanks for the feedback. I do have lupus nephritis, and have had this disease for 3 years now. Do you think it's the lupus that's triggering this numbness in my right side. And also the doctor told me that it couldn't be my lupus. I'm just concern and need to know the next steps that i should take when i go see my doctor and also i will get a second opinion.

I can sort of answer your first question. Mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) or Cellcept has been extensively researched for its use in myasthenia gravis. Also, it carries a FDA black box warning that it may increase your chances of infection, lymphoma and congenital malformations (for pregnant women). Also, its optimal dose is yet undecided. Pyridostigmine (Mestinon) is the usual first line treatment for MG.

The standard therapy options include intravenous immunoglobulin and plasmapharesis, corticosteroids, azathioprine, cyclophosphamide, etanercept, mycophenolate mofetil, interferon alpha 2a and tacrolimus. Current ones are interferon beta 1a, rituximab, and high dose cyclophosphamide. Your neurologist needs to apprise you of the long-term side effects since prolonged therapy are required. Botox shots are not known to be used in therapy.

I have Auto immune hepatitis aswell and primary biliary cirrosis. I was on Azathioprine for two years but when my blood counts went up and I was to take 50mg morning and night, my body did not react well to the drug, so was put on Mercaptopurine. This was devestating and I started to go to liver failure. I am not on Cellcept which is Mycophenolate Mofetil 1g morning and 1g night. This is a fantastic immunposuppressant.

Also, I have IgA nephropathy and have been on low dose immunosuppressant (mycophenolate mofetil 250 mg twice daily) for the past 1.5 years. 4 days ago, I noticed a little bump in on my labia minora. and I thought maybe it was a boil and tried to break it. Right now your kidneys are OK. Repeating it in three months maybe because you are on cerain meds or in the process of you being tested for Lupus your doctor would like to keep a close watch on your kidneys particularly if you are having what is known as a Lupus Flare.

I am on 750 urso three times a day now.. I am 52. I am now on Cellcept (mycophenolate Mofetil) 1g twice daily. This is because the other meds like Azathioprine and Mercaptopurine disagreed with me intensely and I turned a beautiful shade of butterscotch and was oh so ill. This new drug has less chemicals in and suits me very well, in fact I walked 6 miles in Jordan as opposed to not even being able to get out of bed.

I was JC+ before I even started Tysabri and am about one and a half years into it now, still taking it..............I talked to the Tysabri regional rep about it and they still feel our chances of PML are very low.

If the symptoms persist then pls get other possibilities ruled out.The other possibilities are interstitial cystitis, interstitial nephritis,lupus,hypercalcemia,hyperthyroidism,hypopituitarism,hypoaldosteronism,hypokalemia,renal glycosuria,Addison’s disease and polycythemia.Pls consult a urologist and get these possibilities ruled out.I hope that helps. My impression is that initial HSV infections and recurrent HSV infections are both significantly more frequent in mycophenolate users. These are considered to be opportunistic, but not as serious as something like shingles. Moreover, they respond well to antiviral agents because mycophenolate actually potentiates such agents. I did not know any of this before but I know it now. I know that part of your job here is to alleviate unwarranted anxiety.

Hi, glad you have been diagnosed, this can often get misses as indeed mine was for some time. I have PBC aswell which was what I was diagnosed with first. I agree that you should always check on other suppliments. I only take cod liver oil tablets as a supplement with my meds. Just a thought though, if you ever feel unwell on your meds, please do not be afraid to challenge your doc. I took mine as instructed and became so ill.
