cellcept

Avatar m tn I am being successfully treated for a rare autoimmune condition with 15 mg prednisone and 1 gr mycophenolate daily. Although mycophenolate use involves a risk of opportunistic HSV infections, I was not warned about this. I recently had sex WITH A CONDOM with a partner whose status for HSV infection is unknown. Within about a day, I had developed numerous lesions. These spread rapidly and my doctor said they had an appearance consistent with HSV.
778275 tn?1326913623 I can sort of answer your first question. Mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) or Cellcept has been extensively researched for its use in myasthenia gravis. Also, it carries a FDA black box warning that it may increase your chances of infection, lymphoma and congenital malformations (for pregnant women). Also, its optimal dose is yet undecided. Pyridostigmine (Mestinon) is the usual first line treatment for MG.
Avatar f tn Your message caught my eye as it involves your 14-year-old son, and I'm on this site looking for answers re: my 14-year-old daugher. At any rate, I'm certainly no expert--I'd never even heard of ITP til I read your note. But here's a link I thought rather helpful: http://childrenscbf.org/medical/whatsitcalled.html?gclid=CLvJ9La2rpUCFRYLIgodkX7_aw#whatITP Maybe it'll ease your mind somewhat.
545538 tn?1295992017 I thought maybe this was the reason I was diagnosed with ITP to begin with since ITP is only diagnosed by exclusion. But when I called my hemotologist and asked if I was tested for C when I was going through the exclusion for ITP he said "No, because the sonogram and MRI showed the liver was fine." This was two years ago. So I'm thinking that I probably had C already.
Avatar n tn She did clear the virus and has had negative RNA since. In June, 2008 she developed ITP which is Immune Thormbocytopenia. It is an auto-immune disorder where her body is destroying its platelets. I know there can be a relationship between Hep C & ITP, but her doctor didn't think there would be a connection almost 9 years after treatment.
Avatar n tn It's FDA approved for use in patients who have ITP (IdiophaticTrombocytopenia Purpura) only. The doctors who prescribe it have to register the patient in a program called "Promacta Cares" so that the FDA can keep track of the patients. There is a recent study that showed that many Hep C patient have ITP. Perhaps you can use it to get your doctor to prescribe it for you.
Avatar m tn HCV-Infected Individuals at Increased Risk for Immune Thrombocytopenia Purpura and Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia Eurona Earl Tilley February 26, 2009 — The incidence of 2 severe autoimmune cytopenias — immune thrombocytopenia purpura (ITP) and autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA) — has been shown to be elevated among individuals infected with hepatitis C virus (HCV).
Avatar n tn I have had ITP and it is in remission. I want to have the hair on my top lip removed by lazer. Will this present risk to my health and starting up the ITP again or the bleeding that goes along with ITP?
Avatar n tn First off ITP in children is usually an acute situation followed by a virus. This ITP is cureable. Now chronic ITP happens to adults. It is for sure an autoimmune disorder which I am sure you know that the platelets are killed off before maturing thus leading to severe bleeding problems if the platelets are too low. I myslef have it and have very very heavy periods and very painful ones at that. I bruise easily and when I take NSAID like Advil I bruise even easier and platelets drop.
529052 tn?1230874866 I got ITP for 3 years. My platelet count is 40,000 now so I do not take any medication. i got 3 times relapse history after stopped the prednisolone. Avatar n tn Could you tell me what keeps his platelets in such good shape? Does he take some effective drugs for ITP? Or ITP simply comes and goes, and he has normal platelets in between?
545538 tn?1295992017 I was diagnosed with ITP (platelet disorder) 4 years ago. I was diagnosed with HVC this summer and started txt 1 month ago. I just got 2nd week blood results back and my platetes are 117, which are higher than they have been since I've been tested over 4 years ago. I was always in the 40-50s range except when I had gamma globulin infusions in order to have high enough plateletes for a biopsy. Has anyone else had their plateletes rise during tx?
Avatar m tn Is ITP a complication of HCV or results by non responsive treatment with Interferon alpha 2b?
563571 tn?1232491190 I once read about an early researcher who transfused himself with blood from a patient with ITP and he himself developed ITP. In ITP the body creates antibodies which consume the platelets shortly after they are made and the body is in constant overburdened platelet production. That is the immune type, which I have, anyway. The antibodies in the blood sample must have caused his body to produce these antibodies on it's own.
Avatar m tn i am 15 years old and i have chronic itp so it could be an unknown symptom from itp but i have had itp for almost 9 years now and this is the first time this has happened. i am guessing that the "boogers" are a mixture of puss and blood so it could also be a bladder infection or something. i have also felt the need to urinate more frequently but all in all i urinate the same amount of urine as before, only over more times. can anyone help me?
437079 tn?1222438840 s which showed hip damage or abnormalities and I was told I have ITP Which is Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura. The Rheumy said that mean i have a problem with me Platelet's count and I am a anemic. He said I have some type of Auntoimmue Disease but I dont have Lupus at all which was a good thing to here but I'm still worry about the other things of on. My hip X- ray shoed some joints damages so i dont know what we going to do about this .
529052 tn?1230874866 Im planning to have a baby. But im worried. I read a blog written by an ITP mom. She said she had gone through a very difficult time and even risking her own life, in order to give birth. Are we all have to risk our own life to get a baby? How good is the chance to get a safe delivery? My platelet count currently is 20,000. I knew i must reach at least 50,000 before i get pregnant. I also got hyperthyroidism which makes the delivery more complicated.
Avatar n tn vdrl reactive since 2001 but all the confirmation test was non reactive and 2003 diagnose an ITP person. why is this happening to me? what is the cost that my vdrl was reactive after 2 years i got this low platelet.
Avatar f tn About a month ago my father passed away suddenly from an intercranial hemorrhage caused by a platelet count of 2,000. It was determined that ITP was the most likely cause. I know ITP is not a hereditary disease, but in the mean time my father's sister has had a TIA. She delayed going to the hospital for over a week and when she went they discovered her blood is not clotting properly and her platelet count is low.
639124 tn?1223422596 ) So I went home and did some research, read about ITP and TTP, and thought maybe it was just due to being pregnant that they were low. No biggie for the time being, right? WRONG. All day yesterday, I had a pain under my arm, which I thought was my underwire from my bra cutting into my skin. Upon further investigation, I realized it's not from that, it is a swollen lymph node. I haven't had a swollen node under my arm since I was about 12 yrs old.
Avatar m tn I have ITP and HCV. My platelets have been in the 40s for over 5 years. I had to have gamma globulin infusions in order to get my platelets up to get the liver biopsy. That works in the short term but is expensive and time consuming (5 day 6 hours per day treatment). Saying that I've been on SOC for over 4 months and my platelets have gone up. I am now 144.
