Avatar m tn I am 18 years old and have been training for over 2 years and have always used either protein shakes or protein bars to supplement my lifts. I have been using the Muscle Milk to help me to gain muscle mass as I am going to be playing Rugby at the college level this fall. I am okay with switching to another product, but am just wondering why I experience this type of reaction after taking it.
Avatar m tn ) meal 5 6-8 ounces of chicken and some greens. meal 6 protein shake with skin milk. I have also at times drank 6 protein shakes a day to get cut more and just eaten some fruit with each to supplement my diet . Try muscle milk. Along with heavy weight training don't forget to do 30 minutes of cardio 4-5 times a week. Drink alot of water and get at least 7 hours of sleep each night. Avoid stress or find healthy ways of dealing with it. Be good to yourself.
Avatar f tn Chocolate milk isn't good for anyone. At any time. This is a fad promoted by the dairy industry, still at it after all these years. Most people have a hard time with dairy, and it's pro-inflammatory, so it's not a good thing to have anywhere near working out. It has too much calcium and no magnesium, so it leaches the magnesium out of the body; magnesium is responsible for relaxing the muscles, so again, not good at any time let alone anywhere near working out.

Avatar f tn The Dr said it was due to his muscle mass and protein is good for developing muscle.
Avatar f tn in fact people with liver disease are encouraged to eat more vegan vegetarian meals. You get protein from plant sources, such as soy milk, rice milk, soy yogurt, soy cheese, soy ice cream, and rice ice cream. As a vegan you need to combine grains and nuts / seeds for essential protein have to be used daily such as rice and beans, pasta and beans, nuts to oatmeal, peanut butter and bread, and salad and nuts. You can also eat the soy and rice products mention above.
Avatar n tn I am 13+1 as of today. Last week my doctor and dietician suggested I add a protein shake to my diet because I am having food aversions and don't seem to be eating enough protein. The problem is, neither one told me any specific kind that would be safe during pregnancy and I have read a few articles that certain things in these supplements are not safe for a growing fetus. Are any of you doing any protein shakes and if so, what kind are you using?
Avatar m tn m willing to work alot harder (and drink more protein shakes) but gotta remember to recover/ dont wanna gain fat/ lose muscle... just need some weekly exercise/protein shake routine advice.. Thanks!
Avatar f tn Mine was 3.5 at 31 wks but I've only gained a half pound. Dr said he's not as big as she'd like him to be & told me to drink a milkshake everyday so maybe try that? Good luck!

Avatar f tn Hi luvencasa, I suspect you are asking for a healthy way to gain weight since according to your profile you stay pretty active and eat healthy foods (which is great!). I've never been in your position.
783663 tn?1236200728 Suggest drinking either nutrient dense drinks (in addition to eating your meals) such as ensure or make your own milkshakes or yogurt smoothies - milk, ice cream, and frozen fruit blended together, or yogurt, milk, and frozen fruit blended together for extra calories, protein and nutrients to help increase your weight.
Avatar f tn There are a lot of good protein powders on the market that are not meant for "muscle building", but protein is the building block for muscle and muscle burns fat. Exercise also helps build muscle, but if you do the right ones, you won't "bulk up". I often use, both, Greek yogurt and protein powder in my smoothies. The yogurt gives you and extra amount of protein, plus calcium, vitamin B12, etc.
Avatar n tn i think so.. calcium seems to help ulcers heal, that's why ant-acids are mostly made of calcium.. if you're on the triple antibiotic thereapy like you should be it'll kill the bacteria in the milk which isn't bad.. but also probably lessen the side effects of taking those antibiotics in the first place. For sure follow instructions what your doctor said but I don't see why you couldn't drink chocolate or milk.. probably will help.
Avatar f tn I'm thinking about trying some Muscle Milk or Ensure Protein because meat just sounds disgusting right now and honestly, the only "food" I want to eat is sugar. I'm not diabetic but think the Sovaldi/Olysio is making it to where I really would rather not eat. I'm overweight so loss of calories is no problem but I worry about protein intake. Normally, I add tofu into rice but really, it sounds terrible right now. Has anyone tried these?
3588173 tn?1357317184 My doctor said to drink ensure but I like boost as well you no ensure has a protein drink out and you can make you shakes from home just buy your fruit and ice cream and milk and put UT in your blender
Avatar f tn I drink whey protein and use it for cookies, I also eat protein bars.
Avatar n tn Ingredients such as whole milk, nut butters, yogurt, berries, bananas and avocado will all add extra calories, protein and other nutrients to your daily diet to help you put on weight. If you workout drink a high calorie protein shake after your workout to aid in recovery and muscle building. Include sources of carbohydrates, such as fresh fruit, in order to replace your glycogen stores, which have been depleted during your workout.
Avatar m tn Lifting weights, can help to gain muscle mass when your nutritional supplements provide you with dietary protein to build new muscle fibers. You should avoid excessive exercise that burns calories, a muscle-building fitness program will help you add lean muscle mass instead of fat tissue from the weight-gain supplements you consume.
1655866 tn?1320498966 Absolutely that's too low; even if you weren't exercising that would be far too little. Your body will be catabolising muscle to get the energy it needs, which will lower your metabolic rate - this is commonly referred to as a body in starvation mode. I see from your profile that you are overweight and working to correct this - well done for making the decision, and congratulation on your progress so far!
Avatar f tn Does anybody know if its ok to drink protein shakes?
Avatar n tn definetly eat a very high calorie protein diet if your looking to build nuscle not fat then i recomend working out your muscle and afterwards drinking a protein shake with things like milk, peanut butter, and banana make sure your eating healthy fats and lots of protein
Avatar n tn By now (if you are using enough weight) your muscle should be screaming. Eat protein within 1/2 hour of lifting. Drink a lot of water to flush the lactic acid out of the muscle. Then rest the next day, or work a different muscle group. Always let the muscles worked have a day to recover, or you'll just breakdown what you build up.
Avatar f tn If you do not have enough protein in your body you can NOT build muscle mass. The body needs to break protein down to amino acids to build muscles. So, no matter how much you work out - if you don't have protein - you will not gain muscle mass. Another important point to remember is that every time you work out you are tearing down muscles and then rebuilding them. Protein is necessary to repair and rebuild your muscles.
