Avatar f tn There are a lot of good protein powders on the market that are not meant for "muscle building", but protein is the building block for muscle and muscle burns fat. Exercise also helps build muscle, but if you do the right ones, you won't "bulk up". I often use, both, Greek yogurt and protein powder in my smoothies. The yogurt gives you and extra amount of protein, plus calcium, vitamin B12, etc.
Avatar m tn I would suggest possibly a high-protein,moderate carbohydrate Whey protein powder, but use WATER instead of Milk, certain people are lactose intolerent, plus milk is also high in fat.Your most important meal is Post-Workout,right after you do your last set.The natural testosterone and human growth hormone make if the most Anabolic time to receive nutrient, especially for bodybuilders and strength athletes.
Avatar n tn Buy a complex protein powder that you can mix with water or milk. Most experts recommend no more than 3 of these drinks per day and I have been following that regime for over a year. Not only does your body receive the protein required to build muscle, strengthen bones, etc but you'll also receive the required aminos specified in the Amino Protocol. Plus, you won't be swallowing anymore pills :-)..that's probaly a good thing. Just a tip...
Avatar f tn Hi luvencasa, I suspect you are asking for a healthy way to gain weight since according to your profile you stay pretty active and eat healthy foods (which is great!). I've never been in your position.
Avatar f tn I'm thinking about trying some Muscle Milk or Ensure Protein because meat just sounds disgusting right now and honestly, the only "food" I want to eat is sugar. I'm not diabetic but think the Sovaldi/Olysio is making it to where I really would rather not eat. I'm overweight so loss of calories is no problem but I worry about protein intake. Normally, I add tofu into rice but really, it sounds terrible right now. Has anyone tried these?

5606554 tn?1372445380 I used to buy frozen berries, add ice cream and milk and some whey protein powder..... Made good smoothies. What Are Protein Powders? Protein powders come in various forms. The three common ones are whey, soy, and casein protein. “Whey is the most commonly used, because it’s a water-soluble milk protein,” says Peter Horvath, PhD, associate professor in the department of exercise and nutrition sciences at the State University of New York at Buffalo.
Avatar m tn Perfect Preworkout Shake Add 1 1/2 scoops of protein powder (about 30 grams) and 12 ounces of nonfat milk instead of water. This yields roughly 240 calories, 40 grams of protein, 16 grams of carbs, and 3 grams of fat. Toss in some fruit for flavor, or a tablespoon of peanut butter or almond butter for a creamier shake. These will boost calories, carbs, and fat, but they're good for your overall diet. Mix in a blender. Add ice if you like your shakes thicker.
Avatar n tn 10 years ago worn my 1st I would drink pediasure but those have gone up significantly in price since then. With#3+4 I did muscle milk, but again now they ate like $3 each, so I buy carnation instant breakfast packets. It's like $5 for 10 just add milk. they aren't great but I chug them.

Avatar m tn This side effect can be remedied if whey powder is appropriately added to the correct amounts of water or milk, which will allow the powder to soften and become easily digestible. In addition, over-the-counter anti-gas medications may be given in severe cases. Stomach Cramping Stomach cramping is also a side effect of whey powder that is more likely to occur if whey powder is taken incorrectly.
Avatar f tn Depends on the workout. If you're trying to build muscle, protein is better for post workout, but some fruits are very high in antioxidants that help to control the lactic acid and other oxidative byproducts of exercise. Apples are supposed to be good for this, for example. Berries are great sources of antioxidants.
Avatar f tn Do any of you ladies use protein powder for protein shakes? If so, which kind do you use? I bought the chocolate Special K brand protein shake but after reading the label more carefully I am not sure this is safe to drink. I was hoping to find a premade protein shake or a powder that mixes easily with chocolate milk. Any suggestions greatly appreciated!
971283 tn?1247767572 Hello Danny. My boy was into Protein Powder, Muscle building pills etc. when he was about 16 years old. He was high school rookie of the year for grade 9 football and MVP in grade 10. While in grade 10 he injured his wrist weighlifting. Blood tests later showed that he had developed Rheumatoid Arthritis. I am not saying that these powders were the cause, but it does seem strange that since there doesn't seem to be any R.A.
Avatar f tn Yea I'd try to avoid the protein powder and get the protein I need from the food I eat. I'm a vegetarian so I get my protein from tofu and other foods made from soy, beans, nuts, and dairy products. You don't know all the ingredients in the protein powder so I'd ask my doctor about it.
Avatar f tn What does your workout entail, and what's in the protein powder? You also say you lost muscle, I think -- if you're losing muscle and you're still active, you need to see a doctor.
Avatar f tn Well - you have got to have a liquid - so the options are water, milk, or soy/almond/rice/coconut milk. Then you have to have some source of protein. Other than protein powder, you are pretty limited. You don't want to use raw egg. You could use nuts or peanut butter. Other sources of protein such as cooked meat or fish wouldn't be particularly appetizing in a smoothie.
Avatar f tn Definitely eat after. You will be more mindful of what you put into your body plus you're going to need protein after your workout to help your body recover. But maybe eat something light before hand just so you don't pass out during or over eat after.
