Avatar f tn Well she had a surgery about 6 months ago and we received mupirocin ointment for it. I was curious to find out if the mupirocin ointment would have any affect on her sores? I know it's to fight infection and bacterial growth but I was hoping it would alleviate her pain and sooth her raw hot spot. Thanks in advance!

Avatar m tn Earlier this afternoon (july 7th), i ended up going to urgent care and the doctor said i had impetigo, and he wrote me up a prescription for antibiotic ointment (Mupirocin Ointment USP, 2%) and sent me on my way. I still have some questions though! 1.) i read that impetigo is highly contagious. How contagious is it? i always wash my hands after i apply the ointment, and I don't touch the area at all, except when im putting the ointment on. 2.
Avatar m tn The first doctor (my PCP) did a swab and determined bacteria growth and prescribed me Mupirocin 2% topical ointment. The redness did go down but not completely away. The second doctor (a dermatologist) which I saw almost a year later (more recently) also did a swab and found bacteria growth. He prescribed me Desonide 0.05% for 10 days, along with Cephalexin 500mg (3x/day) for 2 weeks. After the 10 days, I went on Mupirocin for 5 more days.
616582 tn?1225068601 Bactroban is actually mupirocin not an ointment of Bactrim. So it is a different antibiotic. If you were allergic to Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprin) I would think you would react to it all over your body if it is a pill form. A lot of people are allergic to the sulfa drug in the Bacterim. Did you have a pill or ointment? The ointment is called Bactroban (Mupirocin). So if you took the bactrim pill for your sinus infection you usually break out all over or at least on the chest.

Avatar m tn I went to a doctor and he prescribed roxithoromycin and mupirocin. They got better after 2 weeks but after a few days many pimples appeared all over my body. I went to a doctor again and she prescribed erythromycin and more mupirocin. Using these antibiotics helped to control the disease but never caused it to disappear completely. After finishing the treatment course the pimples quickly came back in large numbers.

It is a blistery type rash. It does not itch but is VERY painful and bleeds or oozes clear fluid. Until they drain, the area swells which hurts a lot.

Avatar m tn The treatments do seem to be helping to reduce the rash (I was given Valacyclovir and Mupirocin 2% ointment to treat both) but the itching is still out of control. Has anyone here experienced an aggressive itch related to these conditions, or do you think it's more likely scabies, or possibly an allergic reaction to some sort of insect bite?

Avatar n tn Last night I noticed a dark purple spot on the right side of the head of my penis. I was very worried and went to the ER. The doctor in the ER said it was a bruised contusion hematoma (I think he said it's like a blood blister or something like that I think). He gave me this ointment - called mupirocin ointment (2%). I don't remember how often he told me to use it and how long I would need to use it before this hematoma went away. I have not started taking it yet.
