Avatar n tn You really don't want to look for a specific answer to "life expectancy" you need to find out what his doctor plans for treatment and follow that plan. For some folks the time is long and others not so long.......depends! Best of Luck........post again.
Avatar f tn Hi and welcome, Q: " if I do have this, am I going to die young?" A: The most inportant word in this question is 'if' and even IF you do end up being diagnosed with a neurological condition like MS, the answer would be No, because MS is not that type of medical condition. Q: "What is the life expectancy for someone that is diagnosed at 18?
Avatar m tn It is really a shock to get this diagnosis and then you worry when the symptoms are not getting better with treatment. But, please be patient with the treatment as it will eventually work and her symptoms will calm down. Is she still in the hospital? The disease is not curable but it can be slowed down as Deb has already explained.
Avatar m tn I was wondering what the average life expectancy is for someone who is bipolar? I've done some research online and I was unable to figure out if having bipolar affects your life expectancy or not. There wasn't a lot of information available about it, but I imagine that's because there are a lot of factors that go into determining that.
Avatar n tn Time to decide that life with MS will change their life and their families. MS encumpases the whole family not just the individual with the disease. This is a learning process for the whole family. I hope that this helps some. There are many more out there with more definitive medical answers that me. I am just offering some explanation for the seeming reluctance to confront the disease or possibility of it by him. Gods Blessings to you both as you travel down this road.
Avatar f tn I believe each person is different. But, if you have been diagnosed with cancer it is important to start treatment as soon as possible to stop progression of the disease, it can only get worse not better. And survival depends on many factors such as, the stage, the grade of the cancer cells (1, 2, 3.....
Avatar n tn Hi, The chemotherapy would have immediate and delayed effects. Some of the immediate side effects like nausea and vomiting already have fairly good medications to counter the adverse experience of treatment. The other symptoms such as fatigability still need much work (put another way, this is something the patient has to deal with). The best demonstration of the treatment working would be to identify some of the symptoms before.
Avatar f tn With appropriate medical care, individuals with the more severe form can look forward to normal life expectancy. In addition to the benign tumors that frequently occur in TSC, other common symptoms include seizures, mental retardation, behavior problems, and skin abnormalities, which may take some time to develop. Surgery, including dermabrasion and laser treatment, may be useful for treatment of skin lesions. It is important that your daughter be regularly monitored by her doctor.
Avatar m tn org/wiki/HIV#Prognosis quotes studies showing a life-time expectancy of as much as 50 years from infection. There is undoubtly going to be great further advances in HIV treatment in the years to come. And some scientists haven't even given up on finding a functional cure or even drugs that would allow full erradication of HIV from the body.

Avatar f tn Since we have a similar hx and tx, I wanted to respond. Drs dont like to give us life expectancy answers, do they? We know they are right when they say it is all relative, it all depends on so-and-so, etc etc. but we still want a statistically based ball-park figure, right? I want to hear things like "You have a 70% chance of recurrence within 3-5 years," or "56% of those who have a similar recurrence will die within the following 2 years.
Avatar m tn our plan is to speak to the oncologist and request her honest opinion of life expectancy and quality of life during this current treatment plan. we have discussed that we will give the treatment our best effort but will not if quality of life decreases. our question to this community is what if any experience anyone has with life expectancy at this stage and at this age.

1701843 tn?1307197308 WITHOUT SURGERY LIFE EXPECTANCY IS NOT VERY LONG, SO WE HAVE DECIDED TO PURSUE THAT AVENUE THUROUGHLY BEFORE ACCEPTING THAT DECISION. I GOT THE NAME OF A NEUROSURGEON AT KARMANOS CANCER CENTER IN DETROIT THAT TENDS TO BE MORE AGGRESSIVE WITH DOING SURGERIES THAT OTHERS DO NOT WANT TO DO. WE ARE ALSO GOING TO GO TO UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN FOR TREATMENT OPTIONS. THAT WOULD BE TO PURSUE THE MORE TRADITIONAL TREATMENT OF RADIATION AND CHEMO (BUYS A COUPLE OF MONTHS) YIPPEE.

Avatar m tn I have read several websites who claim that Scoliosis decreases your life expectancy by 14.8 years, which all reference the same study. However, other websites, including wiki, claim that it has no effect on life expectancy and say that it is a myth. This is also backed up by a study done by Iowa University. Also, the study that claims that Scoliosis decreases your life by 14.8 years says that the patients were untreated.
