What's nice about this blog is that not only do you get the research abstracts, but they also give some sort of context or commentary as to why you might be interested or how promising they think whatever it is will be. As a bonus, if you have a question about the research, they will often answer it in the comments.

665881 tn?1248926997 A major step forward, with important implications for understanding how to reduce the severity of multiple sclerosis, has been made by scientists at the University of Bristol. The results are published online today in PNAS. The team found that mice designed to express a large amount of the neuropeptide ‘galanin’ were completely resistant to the MS-like disease, experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE).

488198 tn?1493875092 Despite this pivotal link, not all people with vitamin D deficiency develop multiple sclerosis. More research is needed to fully understand why only some people develop multiple sclerosis from vitamin D deficiency and why others don't. However, a distortion of the CYP27B1 gene is increasingly apparent in MS cases and it's possible that the gene generates other, yet undetected, complications that lead to the disease—such as genetically caused rickets.

Avatar n tn Hi there. Your MRI report suggest that there are markers of Multiple sclerosis in your brain though no signs of active demyelination are present. these finding need to be correlated clinically for signs and evidence of multiple sclerosis. These multiple neurological symptoms including seizing hands and tremors could be due to a chronic demyelinating condition called multiple sclerosis where the disease phase is characterized by active phase and remissions.

Avatar m tn If the patient clinically exhibits symptoms of another white matter disease process such as multiple sclerosis, the patient could return for contrast enhanced images to evaluate for acute or active disease" Basically what I'm looking for is the bottom line, what's wrong? What kind of treatments are involved? Or simply what does all of that mean? Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you so much.
Avatar n tn Changes in white matter can happen with aging and with micro-ischemic changes I think. But if you have at least four of these white patches, you might have multiple sclerosis. Please see private message for more info on this.
