Avatar f tn Going back to the multiple factors (genetic and environmental) that I think go into any one person developing MS, some people may see more of an effect w their sx eating a particular way. Idk how large or how small that number of people MAY be but healthy eating can do everyone good by keeping their cholesterol and weight down, in addition to just getting all the nutrients your body needs.
695915 tn?1228665952 In this paper, we seek to determine whether the iron deposition as seen by susceptibility weighted imaging (SWI) in the basal ganglia and thalamus of patients with multiple sclerosis is greater than the iron content measured in normal subjects (individuals unaffected by multiple sclerosis). As increased iron content may result from increased venous pressure, such information would add credence to the concept of Zamboni et al (1) that MS is caused by chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency.

Nearly 40% of our multiple sclerosis patients with disease duration >10 years (mean = 16.2 ± 5.3 years) remained with no or mild disability (Expanded Disability Status Scale [EDSS] 3). Also, about 30% of patients with relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis showed benign disease evolution (EDSS 3) more than 20 years (mean = 24.0 ± 3.3) after onset.
1221035 tn?1301000508 Seizures most likely result from lesions present in the cerebral cortex and adjacent white matter of people with multiple sclerosis. However, other factors may also play a role — especially since such lesions are very common and seizures are unusual in MS. Seizures have been observed before and presumably marking the clinical onset of multiple sclerosis, and during acute bouts of MS. In some cases, seizures appear to be the only sign of a flare of MS.
