488198 tn?1493875092 A Genetic Cause For Multiple Sclerosis Is Identified And Funded By Science Patron, Jeffrey Epstein The CYP27B1 gene is discovered by Oxford University to be a leading cause for multiple sclerosis NEW YORK, June 15, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- A recent study at Oxford University in England and published in Annals of Neurology, has identified a gene that causes vitamin D deficiency and may also be the cause of multiple sclerosis.
Avatar f tn Recent studies In 2005, researchers at the Serono Genetics Institute (SGI) achieved a major milestone in identifying and creating a register of genes involved in Multiple Sclerosis (MS). For the first time in this disease area, researchers identified 80 genes involved in the inflammatory and neuro-degenerative pathways of MS, based on a 40% genome scan comparing the genetic profile of a total of 1,800 people with MS and healthy individuals in different populations.
Avatar m tn Multiple Sclerosis is frustrating disease because they're not sure what exactly causes it. There are possible genetic links, but nothing concrete or obvious enough to say it causes MS. However, it is NOT contagious and I believe it is technically classified as an autoimmune disease. Which means her body is fighting itself in the same way a body would fight against an infection. Therefore the only thing you can get from unprotected sex with her is an STD (if she has one), or a pregnancy.
Avatar m tn -) No one knows what causes it. I tend to discount the genetic causation, as I am the only one on both sides of my family going back 3 generations to get lucky. My doc runs a full fledged research facility, in addtion to his clinical practice. He tells me that the Holy Grail of MS is the cause. Once it is dicovered the cure is the easy part!
Avatar n tn Hi, “tuberous sclerosis or tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is a rare, multi-system genetic disease that causes benign tumours to grow in the brain and on other vital organs such as the kidneys, heart, eyes, lungs, and skin. Avatar f tn There are several types of white matter disorders, the most common one being multiple sclerosis. There are other genetic/metabolic disorders, collectively known as the leukodystrophies, of which there are several types. In someone with white matter disease, evaluation for inflammatory or infectious causes is important as well. The course and the treatment really depend on what the exact cause is. Multiple sclerosis, vasculitis, and other disorders each have their own treatments.

It sounds like you have been suffering from achiness in your arms and legs and a tremor particularly when you are trying to hold something.
Avatar m tn I found this site the other day and it also has good articles on MS research. file:///Users/Charley/Desktop/Multiple%20Sclerosis%20Resource%20Centre.
382218 tn?1341181487 6% had relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis, 9.4% primary progressive multiple sclerosis and 6% clinically isolated syndrome. Nearly 40% of our multiple sclerosis patients with disease duration >10 years (mean = 16.2 ± 5.3 years) remained with no or mild disability (Expanded Disability Status Scale [EDSS] 3). Also, about 30% of patients with relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis showed benign disease evolution (EDSS 3) more than 20 years (mean = 24.0 ± 3.3) after onset.
Avatar f tn Going back to the multiple factors (genetic and environmental) that I think go into any one person developing MS, some people may see more of an effect w their sx eating a particular way. Idk how large or how small that number of people MAY be but healthy eating can do everyone good by keeping their cholesterol and weight down, in addition to just getting all the nutrients your body needs.
Avatar n tn Numerous autoimmune conditions have been associated w/ psychiatric conditions. Bipolar d/o is an hereditary condition & is also seen more often in people w/ multiple sclerosis & other disorders, including autoimmune d/o. Often autoimmune conditions show so many symptoms that people can look bipolar, with out being bipolar. That makes it very confusing.
