Ms symptoms in elderly

Common Questions and Answers about Ms symptoms in elderly

multiple-sclerosis

Avatar f tn Bone spurs are often associated with degenerative joint disease and are more common in the elderly. There are relatively uncommon in younger age group and could occur in association with a few metabolic disorders as well. With your description these are unlikely to be the sole cause of your symptoms. Possibilities that may need to be considered include neuro-muscular/ spinal issues, nutrient/ micronutrient deficiencies, metabolic issues, chronic inflammations, injuries etc.
559187 tn?1330782856 t know what this means exactly? Are VRS an aspect of MRI findings on MS? Maybe seen on MRI in MS? Or not usually something sen on MRI in MS? Maybe I wasn't stating my question clearly, which often happens. Thanks.
1358486 tn?1277559154 I also experience what can be described as MS like symtoms. Is this a definative trait found in MS patience. I understand that atrophy is normal in the elderly, I'm only 48.
Avatar f tn Hi to all--- I am new to this site and my diagnosis. I have excellent MRI findings for MS (done for evaluation of depression 2 years ago) . Fortunately I haven't had symptoms of MS- thus I have the radiologic isolated syndrome (RIS). Each year my MRI has shown the same-- about 10 lesions in the right areas, finger like shapes with some. They do not enhance. This summer I had a c- spine which showed 1 lesion located there. So there's talk about whether or not I should start therapy.
Avatar n tn She has to drink, even if she vomits again. Clear water, or sport drink like Gatorade (it contains salt, which improves water absorption in intestine, but if she cannot go with a salty drink, than just water). Does she have abdominal pain? Vomiting bile may be from intestinal obstruction - this is a dangerous situation, well, in this case she would fell vey bad. Does she have any medical history, and why do you think is she vomiting now.
Avatar m tn I have FAP in my family and have dealt with many "blockages" and this is not the typical symptoms of a blockage, impaction maybe. Diarrhea for 3 days is not a big thing to be concerned with except for staying hydrated. However, with your dad not wanting to see a doctor and probably hasn't in many years there's not much you can do. You need to convince him that if he doesn't go now his body will force him to go eventually and it may be too late.
Avatar m tn Diagnosed Bradycardia 8 yrs ago & MS 20 yrs ago. No symptoms with bradycardia (rest 53/sleep 47) except missed/extra beats, no dizziness, pain or tiredness apart from MS related. MS is benign, I have no disability do not smoke & am not over weight. I am 49 yrs old. I would not call myself fit & do no formal exercise. Cardiologist said carry on as normal. I avoid caffeine and adrenaline in medication as they give me palpitations. My questions, 1.
Avatar f tn For years I have had pso ana. Sometimes up at 1200, usually around 600. I've read ana has nothing to do with ms so is it poss I'm fighting ms and another disorder? I was negative for lupus and lymes. Spinal tap shows 6 bands.
Avatar f tn m thinking myself about trying to locate an MS center, or a Neurologist who specializes in treating and diagnosing MS. I posted a question about this in my own post... Others have posted about how such doctors are not easy to find, but better equipped to diagnose MS. God Bless!
Avatar m tn It sounds like your dad might benefit by seeing a different neurologist, preferable one who specializes in MS so that your dad can be given a fair evaluation, free of age bias. good luck and feel free to come back and ask question.
Avatar n tn Hello there. I had a brain MRI done for headaches and luckily there was no tumor. But there are a few scattered foci of T2 hyperintensity within the white matter of centrum semiovale and corona radiata as well as subinsular region. Otherwise unremarkable exam. I had a lyme test done today and lupus test. I am also going to a neurologist at the end of the month. My doctor does not think MS or any of the other differential diagnoses since I don't have symptoms.
Avatar n tn Last saturday, my 12 year old daughter complained that her left cheek developed a "cracking" feeling, and began to hurt. Her opposite cheek began to hurt a minute later, and then her nose went numb. Within 5 minutes, she was fine. It happened again later that night. The following day, sunday, she complained about her cheeks going numb or hurting a couple of times throughout the day. She described the numbness as feeling like she doesn't have a cheek.
691463 tn?1227419054 we have an elderly cat of 17, he is suddenely much more lethargic than usual, as if in a daze and drooling heavily, we wonder if he may have had a stroke, he experienced something like a seizure couple of weeks ago.
559187 tn?1330782856 You can have lupus and MS. However, a low titer ANA is seen in the healthy population without symptoms. If your ANA's have been low in titer, you probably don't have lupus. Typically, people with Sjogren's also have very high titer ANA's. Yes, lupus can mimic MS--you can have neurological symptoms with it. Sjogren's also mimics MS as well and can cause white spots on an MRI. A rheumatologist can sort things out for you.
Avatar f tn -) Went to the ophthalmologist and it turns out you can only see the blue if the light is behind me which tells him, my sclera is thinning which is common in elderly women with light colored eyes! Since I am not elderly he said it was hard to say if it would get worse or not. It could also be caused by Rheumatoid Arthritis but I don't think that's the issue in my case. Apparently when the sclera thins out you can kind of see through it to the vasculature underneath. Who knew?
1831849 tn?1383228392 Let's see, I believe there are strict controls regulating the initial doses of Gilenya. Therapy is initiated in the physical presence of health care professionals who monitor heart rate for six hours because it is usual for the drug to cause a slow or irregular heart rate. True? So people with known heart problems are usually excluded as candidates for Gilenya. Right? And still we are supposed to be surprised when cardiac complications and death occur soon after starting this drug?
Avatar n tn Are the blood blisters in the arms and legs of some elderly a vitamin or mineral deficiency? If so, what will help? This discussion is related to blood blisters.
424454 tn?1221109013 Hi, Hun, I'm afraid to say that you and I are old. Over 50 is old in MS talk and 60 is elderly (sorry, ess!) However, that does not mean they can dismiss all of your many lesions due to age. Some neuro's, like my old evil one, do that as a kneejerk.
Avatar m tn No, but if a pet has all the symptoms, such as enlargement of all the lymph nodes in an elderly patient there is a chance that the patient may have lymphoma. A veterinarian would than do a fine needle aspirate (needle biopsy), or excisional biopsy, and bloodwork to be definitive.
