Avatar n tn Are the symptoms of MS more noticeable on those in their 40s or 50s then those in their 20s and 30s? Can someone with MS end up on a wheelchair when they're in their 20s or even 30s?
Avatar f tn Hi Esse, I'm undx and 54, the way things are going for me I may be 60 before a dx comes. You say you had a MS MRI? What strength machine was it done on? I know that a 3T machine is preferrable, as the stronger the machine the better the images. Was your MRI done with and without contrast? Did you have the brain and spine both done? I know when neuro's are looking toward MS they usually try to check for all the mimics of MS also.
620048 tn?1358018235 My father had symptoms of MS since he was about 37 but it wasn't until he was 66 that he finally got his MS dx. It was only when they did an MRI looking for signs of a stroke that his doctors saw the classic MS liesons in his brain. Over all of those years his doctors kept blaming his symptoms on a large range of other illnesses. Right now I am 59 and am 99.99% sure I have MS also.
5180426 tn?1364785641 I know there can be other reasons for white matter disease and lesions but is it unusual for a 60 yr. old to be diagnosed with MS. I have been having symptoms for years and have been to neurologists for MS but they have shoved me to the side saying I didn't have anything wrong with me. Funny I had so many things wrong but yet they would not follow through with me. I have had walking problems, speech problems and others but I guess that doesn't count for anything.
Avatar n tn MS may worsen over time and we also age over time, so it would seem that MS may worsen as you age. There are different types of MS and everyone's MS is different, so there are some people in wheelchairs in their 20s (and even younger) but not all of them necessarily stay in the wheelchairs. I agree with the community members' comments, that it would make sense to speak with your neurologist about your particular situation.
Avatar m tn I had the problem of non-typical lesions at first, with the radiologist suggesting ischemia because of my advanced age, relatively speaking, for an MS diagnosis. However, over time and in view of increasing abnormalities upon neurological examination, the true problem of MS became clear. Radiologists know virtually nothing about you and your overall health picture. However, and this is a BIG however, you have no reason to give yourself a diagnosis of MS.
Avatar f tn Hello I am a 22 year old female. I suffer from depression and anxiety/panic attacks. I've had depression and anxiety for a long time but suppressed everything until now. I took a leave of absence from college and work because my depression and anxiety was getting so bad. I needed a break from everything and am currently seeking Cognitive Behavior Therapy. So, this is my story...I had a panic attack at work and freaked out and went to the ER.
Avatar n tn I seem to be exhibiting symptoms of MS, however I am will approaching 60 years old. Would MS present at such a late stage of life?
Avatar f tn The reason why I am here is because I feel like I have early symptoms of MS or some other neuromuscular disease. Hopefully someone here has or has not expierenced what I am that way I can move forward with going to the doctor or maybe just slow down my drinking. I very scared and really do not want to go to the doctor for fear that they will think I am over reacting. Any help would be appreciated!
Avatar f tn t decide if the 6 spots on my MRI-Brain is MS or old age. Does the old age doctors talk about have Ms symptoms? Everything I have read about MS, I would say it' MS. Somebody tell me. I won't do a Spinal Tap, every time my spinal fluid gets messed with, I am the one in the bed for 2 days, because of the headache, must crawl, can''t stand, so what is left?
Avatar f tn My specialist talked About ms but said ms is usually all over the brain .my question is.. Can ms only show symptoms on 1 side to begin with? This process is taking forever! I google so many things at night time!
Avatar f tn Using Tysabri as a first DMD has more to do with the stage of your MS than your age. My first DMD was Tysabri. It was chosen because by the time I was dx'd I'd moved from RRMS to SPMS. There are no DMDs apporved to treat SPMS. This means that the firstline meds Copaxone, Rebif, Avonex and Betaseron (CRAB) are not generally effective against SPMS. The same is not true for Tysabri. It is considered to be more potent than the CRABs and is used in SPMS cases.
Avatar f tn Have had MRI which show a few lesions, but I am 54 and neuro suspects they are age related. HOWEVER, I have many symptoms and explained to him I know my body. So yesterday I had a lumbar puncture. (It was no big deal compared to ongoing pain!!) Will be anxious to see if it shows anything. In the meantime I am trying to schedule a second opinion with a MS specialist. My reason for posting today - since keeping a journal and using symptom checker it is much easier to see a pattern.

539156 tn?1281818356 MK Ess gave you great info. I just tuned 58 and my guys are sure I have had mild MS since 92 . Its not official yet , paper work is in 'the mail'. But if its true I started in 92 with pressure in L. foot and a 4 day bout of vertigo, crawling on the floor type. Docs thought I had water in my ear . It went away . but the foot banding would return every once in awhile . Things started ramping up in 06. Last week my MS specialist said " you're at the right age ".
629189 tn?1225402248 It is unfortunate, but totally believable that a physician would make the kind of remark about the ages of MS onset. It is a fact that the average age of MS diagnosis is 35 to 37 years. The average age of symptoms onset is 29 to 33 years. So the doc was out to lunch and not coming home for midnight snack. You need to get the actual report of the MRI. No one should get a report of an MRI that isn't totally normal except from the physician.
Avatar f tn Keep in mind that MS is just one of many potential causes, some are neurological but most of the symptoms associated with MS are caused by other types of medical conditions. Age is relevant to some degree, simply because the older you get the more degenerative your brain, spine, nervous systems etc generally are, so the potential causes list expands to incorporate addition age related conditions or if of a younger age the list is more limited.
Avatar f tn //www.themcfox.com/multiple-sclerosis/ms-symptoms/lhermittes-sign.htm Athletes commonly sustain injuries, so it's possible you've at some stage sustain a spinal structural issue, that with age is now more of a problem and persistently experienced eg degenerative disc etc. You haven't mentioned bending your neck as the trigger, and if all your neurological tests were normal and testing didn't trigger it, then it's possibly not the neurological L'hermittes sign.
