Avatar f tn http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnetic_resonance_imaging The above link tells you pretty much everything you didn't want to know about MRIs. I had a brain MRI one time, I had to be sedated because I was afraid of it, they even have a little mirror in there so you can see out of it, sort of claustrophobic in the machine, and they had a microphone and radio in there so I could talk to the techs. When the machine started up, it was VERY loud, surprised me, kind of made a bumping racket.
Avatar f tn Can anyone tell me about the PET scan? I know its a machine similiar to an MRI...? My mom has to have one tomorrow. She is extremely claustrophobic--and not a small woman...not big overweight-but not small. On top of being terrified of the results (she has invasive lobular carcinoma..and dr is cking to see if its spread) ...shes really nervous about this scan. Is the machine completely enclosed? Very small? How long does a total scan take? Her Dr prescribed her valium...
Avatar m tn The camera will visually record your movements and at the same time the EEG machine will record your brainwave pattern. Both the video and EEG are stored onto a computer that can be reviewed once the test is finished. Discuss this with your doctor for proper evaluation. Take care and regards.
Avatar m tn The vice versa is true for MRI. MRI can produce images in any plane but CT scan cannot. CT scan uses X-ray imaging whereas MRI uses radio waves and magnets. Radiation exposure is moderate in CT scan and there is no radiation exposure in MRI. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else. Take care!
Avatar f tn s ability to lay still, be in the MRI without feeling claustrophobic, and the urgency of getting these tests completed. I have been in an MRI (3T) for 75 minutes, then moved to a different machine (7T) and was in there for almost 90 minutes without a problem. But I don't have major spasms and I am not claustrophobic (in high school I belonged to the spelunking club and loved my time in caves). Was there a reason why they wanted to do your tests like this? Have we crossed paths?
Avatar f tn How long is a mri with ms protocol usually? I had one and it was 20 minutes without contrast and 7 minutes with contrast on a 1.5 tesla is this pretty standard?
Avatar m tn they also sceduled an MRI which was set for 2 weeks and then delayed for another. 3 weeks after my injury I finally got access to an mri machine, but could not visit the doctor because i had to go abroad for personal reasons i did get the mri results with me, just no diagnosis from a doctor specialised in orthopedics i have uploaded the video to youtube. the links is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?
Avatar m tn Just had an MRI scan today and as I was put into the machine a red light was shining into my eyes. After about a minute the machine moved and the light vanished. Was this light laser as my eyes feel pretty sore and gritty.
Avatar n tn When having a Hida scan, Do you lay in a machine such as the one of an MRI or what?
Avatar f tn Hi Tara and welcome to the forum. I don't believe we have "met" yet. My MS was diagnosed on a closed 1.5 Telsa MRI machine. However, the strength of the machine isn't the only factor. The software used to obtain the MRI cuts is just as important. I am lucky enough to have most of my MRIs taken on a 1.5t but it has the best software in the area ,including the academic centers.
Avatar m tn With help from one of the kid from Indonesia, im totally cured. This boy got 6 sense, and he could see through my body system, at that time i had a severe migraine and sinus as well, one of my friend told me about him, i tried to contact that boy, and he asked me to send my video from head to toe and the video doesn't last for more than 2 hours.
745975 tn?1258960922 My Doctor order an MRI scan on my head to check for a Pituitary Adenoma, but she told me to only go in when I was having headaches. I was having headaches all weekend but I feel better today, and probably wont be able to go in for a few days since I need to make an appointment first. Will it matter if I have a headache or not when I go in? If there is an adenoma, won't it show up regardless? I'm just trying to figure out why I should wait?
Avatar f tn m claustrophobic and probably going to have an MRI, not looking forward to it but still I find it a better option compared to a CT scan. By the way, each the MRI and CT scan are somewhat different in their function/purpose, so take that into consideration too. Good luck to you!
195469 tn?1388322888 A week ago, I had my upteenth MRI of the brain and spine. I have been diagnosed with MS for 14 years, so I certainly have had my share of MRI's. I have had a few MRI's on the newer 3T machine so I am not a stranger to that machine. This time, something very strange happened, I would like to get your thoughts about. When the tech was scanning my spine, I noticed underneath me, great heat. It felt like my spine was on fire. I started to sweat profusely from the heat.
Avatar n tn There isa no way to answer that question because the radiation is dependent upon the machine and the technique. Plus there is variability, depending on the machine itself, the year and model, and the calibration. Though I am not a fan of the CT and feel it is used unnecessarily when an MRI/MRA would be more approriate, I would not be overly concerned. The body repairs damage. No x-ray radiation is good for a person, but at times there is a reasonable benefit vs. a risk.
Avatar f tn hi, ive just had the worst expercience of anxiety i have ever had, i was booked to had a MRI scan thinking, no problem ill manage that seen it being done on TV ill be fine, i had no idea i suffered claustraphobia, i was actually fighting for breath and felt like someoe was sittin on my chest i was shouting at the poor nurse guy to get me out, we tried a few times but to no avail, i was left a blubbering wreck, ay advice on what kind of sedative to ask for when i go for a re try and the dose, im
Avatar f tn If PET scan is normal, it means all the areas of the brain are taking up good amount of sugar. This is rare with a lesion. An MRI which is normal can confirm the findings of a normal PET scan. The slow build up may not significantly alter the amount of sugar uptake. The PET scan should be ideally interpreted by a Radiologist, preferably a Neuroradiologist. PET scan and EEG are two different procedures, running on two different principles.
Avatar f tn Do not get it on an open MRI machine! These machines are not strong enough for catching most (and sometimes all) of MS lesions. My first MRI was considered bogus by my neurologist. No lesions showed up. The next MRI showed lesions-- even a large lesion missed on the open one. To answer your question, MS is a clinical diagnosis.
Avatar f tn I have had other MRIs and only go to the open MRI due to anxiety. But the breast MRI will be in a regular machine. I am stressed about it, Anyway, I am wondering how far into the machine you go. Is your face out of the machine or in the machine? If anyone could give me some specific details about your bodys postition during the MRI I would really be greatful.
Avatar n tn A CT scan alone may not determine ALS. It is difficult to diagnose with simply one test.
1453990 tn?1329231426 I had to work really hard to make sure that I got a scan on a 3T machine. I don't understand why neurologists don't always schedule you for the best Tesla available!
Avatar f tn hi, ive just attempted to ave an MRI scan done for ny neck, ive been in constant chroinc pain for months, i thought i would be fine having the scan..boy was i wrong, i ended up a blubbering mess, feel very foolish now, not being able to go through with it, i know i HAVE to get this done....or do I??
1842804 tn?1319756311 MS is as unpredictable in symptoms and disease course as it is the placement and number of lesions it causes. Additionally, the way the MRI was done and the strength of the machine makes it somewhat tricky. The weird thing was that I had an open MRI done and it was too weak to show ANY lesions. When I had another MRI done on a 1.5T machine, I had probably around five show up (give or take). My latest scan had many additional ones show up-- like someone splattered paint in my brain.
