Common Questions and Answers about Mri scan torn acl

Avatar f tn I would suggest that you get a x-ray and MRI of the knee joint to confirm the ACL tear. I think there is a tear of the graft. Also with ACL tear surgeries it is common to have knee arthritis, so work up in this direction is also important in your case. After ACL reconstruction surgery rehabilitation is the most important part of treatment. Swimming and cycling are excellent methods of strengthening the muscles around the knee.
Avatar f tn If it is successful then ok otherwise it is certain that ACL or Meniscus or both are teared (as per MRI scan) which will be treated with arthroscopy. My queries- 1) Can above injury is cured with the help of medicines and exercise. 2) Is arthroscopy is the only solution for meniscus and ACL tear. 3) How safe is hroscopy and what information we should know to make sure that we are going right way.
Avatar m tn The second injury is a torn Anterior Cruciate Ligament, (ACL). The ACL is a stabilizing ligament that keeps the femur in concert with the tibia when your body twists on a planted foot. Depending on your age, activity level, and degree of instability, this is treated with surgical reconstruction, or Physical therapy and bracing.
Avatar n tn I have just had an Arthroscopy after an MRI scan showed a problem with my meliscus. However after the op i was told that my meliscus was fine and that the main part of my upper anterior is very loose and not having any significant function. Should this have shown up on my MRI ? Also what is the best action to take so i am able to play football and snowboard again? Would building up the muscle around my knee be sufficiant?
Avatar f tn acl: the acl shows no frank tear or mass effect. there is altered signal in ligament which could reflect mucoid degeneration distally where it is clearly of a partial remote tear. medial meniscus: shows mild truncation of the body with subtie suggestion of a possible small vertical radial tear of the free margin of the body of the meniscus. lateral meniscus: shows no evidence of frank tear likely intrasubstance degerneration of the anterior horn.
Avatar m tn I am a 30 y/o male and have right knee issues from an acl tear from an injury in 2006 with acl repair surgery in 2010. The MRI report from my visit in August 2016 is as follows: FINDINGS: Previous ACL repair with susceptibility artifact resulting from femoral anchor. The graft is torn. The PCL is intact. The fibular collateral and medial collateral ligaments are intact. There is postsurgical change of the medial meniscus with near complete resection of the posterior horn and body.
Avatar n tn I noticed that she was limping around and took her to the vet. He advised me that from an x-ray of the leg it looks like torn acl and to confine her for 2 months and will heal up and if not will have to perform surgery. No medication was given for the animal. And when the Vet says confined for 2 months does that mean that the animal is only on her legs to go to the washroom and then back to bed? Also she starting wetting her bed in the nightime since this occurred.
1148201 tn?1262165258 I was in a motor cycle crash a year and a half ago and due to other problems that have been resolved they can now fix my knee. After a MRI they have found that I have only MCL in my left knee in tact and need to have a operation to fix this. I have found many people with ACL tears on you tube but can't find info on the problems I have in my knee.
Avatar n tn Im turning 32 next week. On the 1st of March 2016 I went for an MRI scan and when the scans where done the doctor said I have a torn ACL on my right knee that I must undergo surgery on the 6th of April. Then I recently found out that am 5weeks pregnancy. My worry is will the ACL reconstruction surgery be done or will it be postponed till I give birth, and won't it be damaged futher because of pregnancy weight my right knee has to carry.
Avatar f tn So my MRI read, I tore my ACL and meniscus. Although swollen and a bit unstable I have No pain in my knee. However my achilles tendon is like a Charlie horse all the time on same leg. I fell off my bike right onto that knee. Now 2 days later I’m having shooting pains on my heel of the other foot It’s been 1 month since the fall. Is this normal? The pain in my tendon and now my other foot on the bottom of my heel.
Avatar n tn If an ACL tear is suspected, you will return for follow-up evaluation with your orthopedic surgeon The physical examination and history are just as good as a MRI in diagnosing an ACL tear. While the MRI may be necessary in some cases, it is not necessary to diagnose most ACL tears. Please consult your orthopedic surgeon for further evaluation. If the diagnosis of ACL is confirmed then the surgeon may recommend ACL reconstruction surgery. Wish you a happy healing.
Avatar f tn Hey girl! I'm sorry you had this injury! I am a recent graduate with a bachelor's in athletic training so I see ACL and MCL tears all the time. If your MCL is torn it will heal on its own unlike the ACL which needs surgical intervention. The only way to truly tell if an ACL is torn is by MRI and I'm not sure if a surgeon would go in without seeing any pictures at all. Plus if a MRI is gonna kill you financially, surgery will be bad too!!
Avatar m tn I went to see my family physician and he said it felt like the meniscus was torn, so he wanted me to get an MRI. When the MRI report came back it said there was fluid build-up in the acl compartment and the acl might be torn. I went to see and Orthopedic doctor and he said that he didn't see anything wrong with the MRI and when he did the clinical test he said there was a little play but he didn't really see anything wrong. He also did an x-ray which was negative.
Avatar f tn My son hurt his knee in football last Friday night. His MRI shows a MCL tear, partial ACL tear, and a LMT (meniscus tear - 3mm). He'll attend physical therapy in the next week or so. The doctor mentioned that it's not necessary to do surgery right away. Everyone that I talk to encourages me to have him do the surgery due to his age - (18 yrs old - 6'1" - 220 lbs). I want to do what's best for him. Should I get another opinion?
Avatar m tn My son, who was 14 at the time, had a similar diagnosis. The acl was completely absent -- no trace of it on MRI. It appeared to have imploded, and there were signs of mensicus injury. PCL was OK. He underwent acl reconstruct (irradiated iliotibial allograft), during which the surgeon "cleaned up" the knee. He rehabed for a year, went back to playing high school ball, and blew the new acl with 12 months.
Avatar f tn I imagine they were evaluating you for a torn ACL/PCL/meniscus? I expect there is another board with members who will be more helpful :).
Avatar m tn Five weeks ago I had a complete tear of my ACL, torn miniscus, and torn MCL. The orthopaedist thinks I'll need surgery on my ACL, and he suggested I wait until summer since I'm a school employee. The other two tears should heal on their own. I've had four physical therapy sessions, and the Physical Therapist is amazed that I have almost complete range of motion and virtually no pain. My knee does feel unstable, though. I have two questions: 1.
Avatar n tn I had the same problem as yours and it happened about 5 weeks ago. I took MRI and the doctor found a "bruised ACL". And he said it takes months to get it over. If you just have a bruised ACL which is the lowest level of the ACL injury. Take my words, you won't have any problem at all. But but but don't every play any sport until you experience a complete heal on your knee.

Avatar f tn A few months back I decided to see a orthopedic doctor to find out how my knee was holding up. Got the MRI done. Bad news was it was a complete ACL tear but the good news was that the meniscus is intact. He recommended the reconstruction surgery but didn't think it had to be done immediately. Last week when showeling the snow, I slipped on a sheet of ice and my knee "gave away".
Avatar n tn s, and told me my acl was loose, but i probably just had a bone bruise. Well i called my ortho, and he said that he believes due to the way i have gotten hit, i might have a partial tear in my acl, if not i have stretched it out even more than before, i had hurt this leg 3 months earlier playing soccer, then when i get to his office, he tells me that i have probably tore my mcl, might have a tear in my acl, and i might've torn my meniscus. Could this all be possible?
Avatar f tn When this occurred I was told that because I was not in my teens or a professional athlete a repair was not advised. I had a scope done and they cleaned up with torn edges of the ACL. It reduced my pain level. I then had weeks of PT to build supporting structures. It took about two years before the knee would not give out on me and about 12 months before the pain was basically gone. It is my understanding that today they do reconstructive surgeries on most ppl with torn ACLs.
