Avatar n tn I’m 53 years old with aortic insufficiency and miral valve prolasp and I’m reluctant to have a CT Scan if there are alternatives. Would a Cardio MRI be at least as effective as a CT scan to help diagnose the following: Aortic valve condition, such as is it bicuspid, calcified, stenosis, and the extent of insufficiency? Aorta condition? Heart mussel mass? General cardiovascular condition (blockages)? Condition of the Mirtal valve?
968809 tn?1288656910 For anyone that has had a PV ablation, did your doctor schedule at CT Scan or an MRI of your heart before the procedure? I was told I would have to get a CT Scan. I'm very concerned about the radiation and was wondering if anyone had an MRI instead.
Avatar f tn If you are concerned about radiation, an MRI is an alternative procedure without the radiation.
Avatar f tn An ultrasound is not supposed to be performed "just because". It is a medical procedure just as x-ray, CT scan, MRI, bloodwork, etc are medical procedures. Valid medical reasons are required and must be ordered by doc, PA, CRNP.
Avatar f tn The breast surgeon ordered some additional pre-operative tests -- PET scan, CAT scans and breast MRI. My insurance company would not cover the CAT scans as they said they were not medically necessary. I had the PET scan and the MRI the Friday before last (29 May). The PET scan results came back first showing no abnormalities. I was delighted. But my relief was short-lived ... The MRI results came back later the same day.

Avatar n tn Does the transrectal aspiration procedure need to be done along side the MRI or is that a seperate procedure involving ultrasound and a needle? how is the trans rectal-aspiration done? Can you tell me the treatment for obstruction of the seminal vessel, vas deferens any of the ejaculation system (other then infection treatment with antibiotics)? i cant find much online and it seems there's very little options with high severe complication risks with treatments?
Avatar f tn Right adrenal mass, 2.3 cm. This is indeterminate on the CT scan. In a young patient, this is likely benign. Characteristics can be confirmed with dedicated MRI. 4. 1.7 cm cyst or cystic lesion in the tail of pancreas. Followup or dedicated MRI could be done for further characterization. In the right adrenal gland, there is a 2.2 x 2 cm mass with intermediate Hounsfield units. Left adrenal gland is normal. I love this site. I have been studying all your stories.
Avatar m tn I am going for a CT Scan also MRI Scan to check cervical area but also to ensure last surgery has fused okay as still getting bad pain just above right buttock! My spine has deteriorated due to being a Nuclear Test Veteran - I was in Navy and present for a number of Atomic Bomb Tests on Christmas Island in Pacific in 1958. We were exposed to high levels of radiation unfortunately! Kind regards.
Avatar n tn Now my breast doctor is sending me to an oncologist and they are considering doing a PET scan, and I do not understand why because she said the MRI did not show cancer. I need help in what to ask this oncologist and should I be concerned?
Avatar f tn A CT scan 64-slice angiogram would be an alternative but for someone your young age doctors may be against the procedure due radiation exposure. The procedure includes assessment of the AV, aortic root, ascending, arch and decreasing aorta. Sensitivity is good with MRI and MRA if the software package is designed to image structures. MRI generally has the highest sensitivity of the imaging modalities, with similar specificity to CT and TEE. .
Avatar f tn Hello, Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves to produce detailed, usually 2-D images of the inside of your body. An MRI scan should take between 30 to 60 minutes and is carried out by a radiographer. You can drink and eat as normal before MRI. The procedure is painless, but can be very noisy. The only side effect is that the injection may make you feel hot and may give you a funny taste at the back of your throat. This is normal and should pass quickly.
Avatar n tn What is the best detailed imaging of the male urologic anatomy. CT or MRI. Can you give me a list of what these tests show and possible detail? Like if they can see bladder good, ureters from kidneys, urethra to penis, seminal viscle, vas deferens?
Avatar n tn The neurologist said he could faintly make the tumor out on the 2004 MRI since the 2012 MRI tipped him off on where to look. So even if it's normal it may be a good idea to go ahead and get one. Good luck!
Avatar f tn I went to get the procedure done today. The radiologist will not give me the arthrogram MRI. He says that I am "severely allergic" to it. I get severe hives, vomit, eyes swell badly. He wants my ortho doctor to give me a prescription for two medications that may counteract it. The radiologist says my arthrogram must be done in the hospital. He says there are two medications during the procedure that he must give me.
Avatar m tn You simply inform the technician on the day of the scan. Usually you fill in a form before the procedure which asks these questions. The powerful magnets in the mri scanner can heat any metal implants so you must inform them, then the equipment is adjusted accordingly. I believe they lower the intensity of the magnetic field.
Avatar f tn The only way to diagnose colon cancer is through a colonoscopy. The doctor saying that to you was a little out of line. The swelling could be anything from IBS to colon cancer. Are you having any additional symptoms such as weight loss, narrow stools, or passing blood? You may also want to get some blood work to see if you are anemic. Not sure what to make about the spot on your liver. That could be something different from your stomach problems.
Avatar n tn Our eight year-old daughter was seen in September by a pediatric endocrinologist due to vaginal bleeding that she had on August. He reran some of the blood work, which he wanted done a couple of weeks later, at the beginning of October, with the following findings: Estradial was 9pg/ml; FSH was 0.79; LH was 0.04. A bone age xray was also done, which came back at about her age (actual reading said four months younger than she actually was).
Avatar f tn I have a titantium plate from a C5/6 fusion and recently had and MRI. MY NS said it had artifacts in the way and he couldn't get a clear reading of the MRI. I wouldn't waste your time on the MRI because once you have hardware there isn't always a clear view of your spine. I ended up with a CT myelogram instead.
Avatar n tn i had an MRI with contrast this morning. the first half of the procedure (without dye) was actually quite pleasant. but the second half - as the dye was being introduced into my arm it began to burn, ache, shake and started getting cold. during the second procedure, the shaking and cold (yes, i had a blanket) became pervasive through my system. by the time i was removed from the unit, i was woozy, shaky, freezing cold and unable to stand or move without help.
