Common Questions and Answers about Mri scan of chest

mri-scan

Avatar m tn Hello, I have been experiencing significant chest pain and other various symptoms for the past year and a half, I am scheduled to get a CT scan of my chest this week but am concerned about the radiation. Do you know if an MRI can provide the same graphics? Your answer would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar m tn That seems to have checked out in you. The MRI is used to identify a variety of other abnormalities (some of which you can be born with). Depending on what type of MRI they did, it can also be a stress test. The MRI is often much better than an echo, so if it's a cardiac MRI you received, that should give them better pictures than an ECHO. It seems like they have done all the right tests.
Avatar n tn When having a Hida scan, Do you lay in a machine such as the one of an MRI or what?
Avatar f tn The other day I was taken to our local emergency room with symptoms of a heart attack. The did numerous tests. One of the tests done was a CT of my chest, looking for a blod clot. I was told all of my tests came back negative. At my follow-up with my GP today, he asked if they discussed the abnormalities in my CT scan. It seems there is a lump in my left breast. My gp has ordered a mamo, ultrasound and mri. I am 50 years old and my last mamo was 13 months ago. How worried should I be?
Avatar n tn There was sensitivity to light and some pain in the area of the left eye also. After having a cat scan of the head, chest cat scan and angiogram i was told there was nothing wrong. I am on high blood pressure medicine and they are trying to adjust that thinking that might be the problem. At one point the heart rate dropped to 39. At one point the top part of the heart was not pumping in sink witht he bottom part. Anyone have any ideas of what this might be?
Avatar n tn I understand these should be avoided while pregnant, but what if they are medically necessary? Has anyone gotten an MRI or Cat Scan while pregnant? What was the outcome, did it have an affect on your baby? Was it worth it? I have been experiencing agonizing pain in my left shoulder, neck, and arm, that sometimes radiates to my chest, making it hard to breathe. I am having a really hard time sleeping, and even functioning, and my quality of life has gone down because of it.
Avatar n tn My sons chest xray shoed "flattening of aorta". Dr has ordered an echocardiogram. He is 31 years old. What are possible implications of this? Thank you.
Avatar m tn Hi...do u have a history of headaches?.....a MRI of the cervical spine and brain w/wo contrast may be a good idea..and always ask for copies of all tests and reports so if need be u can get a 2nd opinion. Do go for more testing and post an update and also look at symptoms u may have had but may not have considered related to this....it could well be.
Avatar m tn on the contrary, if we see any increased uptake, then we would go for localized MRI scan of the area, where there is an increased uptake of the scaning dye. Also bone scaning is much cheaper than the localized MRI scan. SO please do it and let me know about the result. All the best.
Avatar m tn ve had intense/very painful symptoms for around 2 years, It started with a sensation in the back of my tongue in November 08, followed by me hyperventilating, having a panic attack, chest beating and a rising sensation in my head, what eclipsed all of this was the small ball in the left side of my chest which was twisting...
Avatar f tn In PET scan, there is a lymphnode in neck and some in chest. SUV of neck lymphnode is 9.7 and for chest lymphnodes, it is 3.9 to 6.4. Docotrs wanted to do biopsy of this neck lymphnode but it was found difficult to do. He said that there is also possibility of sarcoidosis. In sarcoidosis, may this SUV be too high? My husband has no symptoms of lymphoma. Now what should we do? Doctors suggested to take regular checkup. But I am afraid. Is it also the possibilty of lymphoma?
365470 tn?1232747095 so because of that they would not do the surgery for the neck. Then today he did a CT scan of the chest and it showed a mass from the thyroid to the aorta...I am trying not to worry, but this does not look good , does it?
Avatar f tn It sounds like they suspect inflammationn in the lung. You should request an MRI rather than a cat. The MRI is far less dangerous and shows up everything you might want to see. The CAT, which uses x-ray radiation, is an obsolete machine. The "snow storm" could be mucus or fluid, or remnants of an infection. Pain and shortness of breath are consistent with such a problem.
Avatar f tn http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnetic_resonance_imaging The above link tells you pretty much everything you didn't want to know about MRIs. I had a brain MRI one time, I had to be sedated because I was afraid of it, they even have a little mirror in there so you can see out of it, sort of claustrophobic in the machine, and they had a microphone and radio in there so I could talk to the techs. When the machine started up, it was VERY loud, surprised me, kind of made a bumping racket.
1069644 tn?1276928863 I have had removal of gallbladder, endoscopy and ultrasound x 3, Hida scan x2, cat scan and MRI of abdomen, chest ct and MRI, stress test, blood tests 2x month checking liver, pancreas, cbc and h pylori. Everything has come back normal except the liver enzymes when I was in the hospital and the Hida scan. There are two types of Hida that I know of, the one for the gallbladder and the one I just had which does the test in reverse order and checks the sphincter.

Avatar f tn I was all ready to ask my neuro if I could get a CT scan instead of an MRI when I came across a bunch of literature about people developing cancer from CT scans. Does anyone know just how significant the risks are? Thanks.
Avatar f tn Hi this life is hell sorry I took so long to get back to you but , it has been hard, the neuro surgeon will not do the surgery until he finds out why his CEA level is elevated, so we had to go do Bone scan, ct scan of the chest, this came back with a mass by the thyroid leading to the aorta, the oncologist is away until the 17th, I am so sorry for Owen , he is putting on a brave front and I also have to be strong.....so here we are at a standstill until tuesday, how is everyone doing?
Avatar f tn My questions basically come down to -- has anyone successfully lobbied their physician to get an MRI done instead of a CT scan (assuming insurance allows it) -- or lobbied to get another type of test done? How best to get the doctor to not brush this off? And of course, am I being paranoid or proactive? Of course if you are familiar with reasons a CT scan is preferable to the MRI for back and abdominal pain, I would like to know this before I call the office on Monday.
881463 tn?1245345649 Hi Dr. Junig, I have a few pending questions in this post and need to ask another about the Cymbalta I just started, as I am already developing some side effects. On/off Tingling/ mild electrical type feelings in my limbs and back of the head, very tired, bad headache & some mild nausea. I have also felt extra panicky and cry/get sad more easily. I started 3 days at 30 mg and Sunday moved to 60mg. I am worried about this medication & it's early side effects thus far.
881463 tn?1245345649 Given to date in the past 4 weeks all of the the normal/negative blood work, Chest X Ray, Bone scan, chest and abdominal Cat Scan with contrast, Abdominal Ultrasound, Gastrocopy, ecg's and stress test my doctor feels that the Thoracic MRI wont show anything serious, but likely more of a minor problem like a bit of wear and tear or a bit of a slipped disk.
Avatar n tn Hi I just had a CT scan and did not have to have my ICD shut off. MRI`s are a different story, I can not have a MRI because of my ICD. I am on my fourth ICD and I run weed eaters, chain saws, leaf blowers and I work on my car while it`s running. My ICD is in my abdomen and after seventeen years none of my electric or gas powered tools have ever caused a problem. I try to keep my power tools at least six inches from my ICD same as my cell phone.
Avatar f tn I went to the ER last night with chest pains, severe chest pressure, shortness of breath, and nausea. I have been having the pressure in my chest for a few weeks but chalked it up to anxiety. After all my tests including an EKG came out fine I was given a CT scan. The CT scan showed that the right atrium in my heart is "Prominent" the ER doc told me to go get an EC to get an indepth picture of my heart. (i think thats what it is called, they dont do them at my army base hospital).
Avatar m tn Since the pneumothorax with this pain i had numerous stand up chest films taken with no evidence of reoccuring pneumpthorax and was attributed to pleural scarring. However, over the course of the last 4 years this pain has gradually moved to my left side, up in to my neck just at the base of my skull and radiates down both arms. Also I started experiencing intense migraine headaches, foggy thought processes a lot of trouble sleeping and tremor in both hands.
1300754 tn?1273845780 Inflammation of carotid artery will be better visualized by a duplex ultrasound than by a CT scan. Also the pain can be due to inflammation of lymphatics, a pinched nerve or due to a muscle pull. Hope this helps. Take care!
881463 tn?1245345649 Hi Dr. Junig, I met with my Dr. & the bone scan results were normal. He said he cannot figure out why I am getting mid back & chest pain (dull or sharp), except to say that it is not cancer/heart related. The tests so far are: Gastrocopy, Chest, abdominal & Pelvic CT scan with contrast, ecg's & stress test, Chest X-Ray, Bone scan, allot of blood work are all okay.
Avatar n tn ve had a brain MRI (no pituitary MRI though) with contrast, spine MRI without contrast, chest x-ray, chest CT scan without contrast, full eye exam, and a CT scan of my abdomen without contrast. The only findings aside from the secondary polycythemia so far have been: high triglycerides (once, most recent), slightly high WBC (once, most recent). My thyroid was in the normal range (albeit low-normal). Could a pituitary tumor cause this? What could be the culprit?
