1925822 tn?1333705617 So great had my nl appointment today and i ride back furious.having driven to the other end of barcelona by taxi the first comment i got is...well i am a ns! I had the feeling i didnt interess him as i already had the op.so looking at my picS he said.well u know that u ve been operated for something that doesnt need to be operated.chiari 1 is mostly not operated.of course i thought!! Then he asked me why they never made an mri of my spine...i told him thats my question.
1375148 tn?1323166921 By the way, My NL has pretty much dismissed most findings on my MRI. and has referred me to a fibromylegia/ CFS specialist. The NL and the spinal team think my 'disc protrusion' is small but the private neurosurgeon i saw thinks is pretty significant for someone my age [29].
Avatar f tn I had a MRI and CT Scan and was told that it was nothing to worry about but was told that in September of 2009 (6 months from original MRI) I would come back for a T-3 MRI to make sure there have not been any changes. So my question is.....I have never had a seizure before but my headaches get so bad that this funny feeling comes over me and the only way for me to describe the feeling is that I feel like I am about to have a seizure....if that makes any sense??
Avatar f tn I had my NL appt already and she said my MRI was unchanged compared to the one 2 years ago, however she didnt go over the scan or report at all with me so I picked it up out of curiousity. On my 1st MRI (laying down one) my measurement was 10mm. This MRI (upright) it says 1.2cm. In my opinion.. that would be considered a CHANGE! Is that something to be concerned with?!
2073947 tn?1333731698 The neurologist I saw today confirmed what I was half told by my Urgent Care-giver ... that I have Chiari I Malformation that was seen on a CT Scan that I had following a concussion a couple of weeks ago. However, throwing in the word "significant" is throwing me off a little bit. While my neurologist seems like a pompous a**, I am using him currently to get the MRI taken so that I can get a copy and take it to someone else. Does anyone know what "significant" means?
Avatar n tn NL is doing a MRI of the brain and a cat scan of the neck. In the past two months I have had my child roll off the sofa onto my shoulders, a lady in bleacher seats tumble down on to my shoulders, and a lab jump on my head as he was jumping in the pool and I was rising out of the water. Who needs car accidents. :-). Any way yes that and a lot have changed. So I guess after these results come back I will have to find time and a doc to reevaluate.
Avatar f tn so I found out back at the beginning of April that I had a cm1 malformation after an MRI scan for headaches and dizziness ( and occasional blurred vision and assorted other things). After many more MRI's, appointments and tests, I have found out the following... I have a 10 mm herniation but it is fat and rounded, which my doctor says is a great sign that my brain is not under intense pressure. I have no syrinx throughout the whole spine, no tethered cord or anything else.
1342095 tn?1283120251 Went back to NL and he ordered another brain MRI...this is when Chiari was seen at 8mm. It was never mentioned before in the November MRI. Also, the 10 to 12 lesions on the brain also showed up again. Since this, I have had a Chief of NS at a well known University Hospital tell me that the lesions are "non-specific" that I do NOT have MS and symptoms are coming from Chiari.
Avatar f tn Hi. My daughter has had an MRI scan for headaches and visual field problems which shows a 6-7mm tonsillar descent probably Chiari 1. She has been referred to neurology and neurosurgery and when chasing these referrals both services have a 22-26 week wait. I’m thinking of taking her to see a Chiari specialist privately as I don’t want her to wait that long but not sure if it’s a neurologist or neurosurgeon who would be best to see? Should this referral be urgent?
Avatar m tn I would really push to see a NL, having the MRI will comfort you one way or another whether they find something or not. Take care!
3072999 tn?1356414732 So I saw my surgeon last week and he ordered my post-op MRI and because of some issues and pain I am having he ordered an MRA...what exactly is that? He said he wants to make sure I don't have a pinched blood vessel??? Ummmm, that DOESN'T sound good at all! Any thoughts? What exactly is an MRA and I'm assuming a pinched blood vessel isn't good, any one know how NOT good it is? I've got to admit I'm a tad on the nervous side...I go 1/4 @ 10pm for my MRI/MRA...
700067 tn?1332989283 I went in to the PCP today because my pain has gotten worse and this morning I lost control of my bowels. (I am still waiting to see the Chiari specialist.) She sent me over to the hospital for a CT scan and it came back "normal." I know that most people have MRIs and the Cine Flow MRI. Can a CT scan really be helpful? I was hoping she would get me a MRI of my spine since so far I've only had my brain looked at. She did give me gab for the pain.

1063386 tn?1287878569 I called my NL today wondering what to do about all the pain. He asked me to come in right away. I get there and he reviews all the many symptoms I gave him a month ago. (He must not have read them the first time.) He states "I feel that this may be Chiari like. Based on your CT scan and MRI there is minor herniation, symptoms are not commonly seen but here you are and you are having them. I think you need to get to a NS." I was so shocked I did not know what to say.
Avatar f tn He went to the NL this morning and they are sending him for an MRI scan just to be on the safe side and rule things out. Hope it is positive news!
1587684 tn?1296927270 I have my first appointment with the NL tomorrow. Does anyone have any suggestions about what I should ask the doctor? I really need everyones help.
Avatar f tn I had a 6 week post op without a MRI...and then a 6 month post op with an MRI...nothing past that unless changes in overall well being...... As Lizzy mentioned in the above post, u should be under the care of a NL from the time u go home post op.....and forward...however, it is difficult to find a good NL informed on chiari....so I am having my PCP do this for me and he is willing to learn as much as possible about chiari....so I feel comfortable with him overseeing my condition.
Avatar f tn FINDINGS: Sagittal images demonstrate mild cerebellar tonsillar ectopia with possible mild crowding of structures of the foramen magnum. In addition, a prominent CSF space is present posteriorly in the midline (image #6 of each sagittal series) which may represent either a mega cisterna magna, congenital variant or arachnoid cyst. The cervical cord is unremarkable. Mild anterior end plate spurring is present at C4-5, C5-6, and C6-7.
Avatar f tn 00 am to 9:00 am. I also have neck pain and numbness in my right leg. I had CT scan and MRI and was diagnosed with Type 1 Chiari Malformation. The Neurologist said I do not need any surgery. The constant pain has nothing to do with Chiari as the pain is caused by stress. I am now on Ativan medication as prescribed by the Neorologist. Will it be good to seek for another check up from another Neurologist? Thanks.
Avatar m tn So, I got the results of mt MRA and MRI scans today. The MRA came back normal, so I am very happy to know that I don't have any tumors, AVM's, aneurisms, etc.! My MRI of the brain showed a chiari 1 malformation with 8mm herniation of the cerebellar tonsils with mild compression of the brainstem. Now, the problem is that there was no comparison with my MRI showing my chiari 1 from 2004, so I don't know if the herniation has progressed since then.
