Avatar f tn CT uses radiation to make these pictures and MRI uses magnetic field.... which one is better ? definitely MRI without "gandolinium" contrast-- pictures are sharp and tumors are well defined and it's SAFE. All contrasts CT or MRI are hard on your kidneys...but your doctor will tell you that " benefits will outweigh the risk". Google gandolinium and read about pros and cons of using it and same for CT contrast.

Retrospectively, I am somewhat concerned as I suffered from some side effects (anorexia, avolition and even unnatural heat in the entire genital area). I can only say that the procedure lasted almost one hour and included contrast agent. So first, can these side effects stem from the MRI, particularly the enduring heat? I can't imagine that heat there is healthy...
Avatar n tn But a person canNOT walk past a magnet and suddenly get pulled up against it or anything, otherwise we could not have an MRI scan at all. Was there something that set off your thinking, to where you thought you were magnetized as relates to your fusion? All surgeons in the free world use titanium screws and metal brackets to help the fusion process, and they have no magnetism whatsoever, part of the reason they use those things now.

I had a brain MRI one time, I had to be sedated because I was afraid of it, they even have a little mirror in there so you can see out of it, sort of claustrophobic in the machine, and they had a microphone and radio in there so I could talk to the techs. When the machine started up, it was VERY loud, surprised me, kind of made a bumping racket.

NOW I need to get that shoulder done, I may have a "frayed tendon" from abusing my arm in all the things I have done in the past. Is it possible to go blind as they say. I would need an answer to that because I need more of these. Also to include "This is the first time I was denied the MRI and I was never asked that question.

From what I know, even though the magnetic field of an MRI can and has been built stronger, 7T will probably max out what the living human can be subjected to. I don't have my paperwork here at work, but the research study specifically sets a limit of the number of MRI's that can a person can have on this machine over a lifetime.

Therefore, the harmful effects of radiation seen with other imaging modalities such as CT scan and X-ray are not present. Your son's symptoms could be due to a variety of things, but obviously one concern when involuntary movements of a limb occur are seizures.
