Avatar n tn I had a brain mri scan for recurrent 'auras' thought to be due to migraine. The result of the scan came back normal except for a few spots of plaques. I am 50, is this normal? I am concerned that it is indicative of early degeneration associated with dementia.
1749417 tn?1331996992 t remember if I have asked this before so here I go again, on my last mri reports both of them say in the history section...history of ms. Is that a diagnosis? Also on my c-spine it says bilateral c-5 neural foraminal stenosis secondary to zygapophyseal joint hypertrophy and posterior osteophyte formation. Could someone tell me what that means in english.
Avatar n tn Hi, Ischemic white matter changes is a very common finding in the MRI scan. The most common cause of such changes is hypertension. Other causes include migraine, stroke and inflammatory processes like Lupus, multiple sclerosis etc. Please consult a neurologist for a complete neurological examination and correlation of the findings with the MRI report. Hope this helps you. Take care and regards!
Avatar n tn I went to the ER last night because of a headache that made it difficult for me to sleep. I have seen my neurologist about this headache already. He ordered an MRI with contrast that was done on an open MRI machine. That test was normal, as was my physical neurological exam. At the ER, they did a CT scan without contrast, which was also normal.
Avatar f tn I went and saw my family doctor about my migraines and he decided to refer me to a neurologist and asked that I get a CT scan. While waiting for the neurologist to get to me, now the nurse calls me and say that I need a MRI before going to see the neurologist. There was no mention of the MRI prior to this phone call and I wanted to make sure that this is necessary. I don't have money to waste! ;) Doesn't a MRI and CT scan basically do the same thing?
Avatar f tn Can I get an answer to my question?
Avatar f tn Thank you very much Dr.Mathur for your interest and response. I did some tests. I have chronic hematuria (10 years) with no explanation. My WBC are in range 15-20 T. Apparently due to anxiety. Persistent thickening of the left adrenal gland. No history of alcohol or drug abuse. In fact I can't drink a glass of wine. I used to smoke but not anymore. I have history of thyroid enlargement and was prescribed iodine but in Canada Dr. said that I should stop.
Avatar f tn I was wondering if someone could tell me which is better to examine someone looking for any cause of psychotic episodes -- MRI or CT scan? Also, what conditions might show up on either exam as the source of the problem? Thank you.
1545021 tn?1322477485 Abnormalities would be picked in a non-contrast enhanced scan as well and a contrast scan is done if an abnormality is picked up in a non-contrast scan. Usually contrast is given if there is a history of tumor, cancer or surgery, infection or inflammation, to evaluate blood vessels and to investigate a finding on the pre contrast part of the scan. Though MRI contrast is safer than that of CT, the common side effects possible are allergic reactions, flushing, hives, shortness of breath etc.
Avatar m tn did they order a follow up with an MRI ? this usually gives a better picture on what it is. I can tell you that most lesions on the liver are hemangiomas which are benign and nothing to worry about.
Avatar f tn First, I have a history of migraines (diagnosed in my 20s based on descriptions of headaches and family history) and second, the MRI findings include the language: There is mild chronic microvascular ischemic gliosis in the periventricular and subcortical white matter bilaterally. The ventricles are within normal limits in size, position and configuration. No enhancing supratentorial mass. The orbital contents are unremarkable. Can someone explain this in language that I might understand?
Avatar f tn I then went to Neuro in Atlanta because I could not get in to see one in this area for at least 2 months. She ordered MRI of the brain with contrast, bone scan, MRI of the cervical spine, along with a VNG. All tests were negative. Around Sept 19th, one day after having the MRIs done, I started to develop parasthesias on the left side of my body. I got really scared and followed up with a neuro here in Columbus, Georgia.
Avatar f tn A CT scan and MRI are pretty much the tests that will find a tumor- if you've had 3 scans that have been normal I would think everything is okay.
2076644 tn?1331837159 Was at the doctors today had a scope to my stomach have palaps in stomach but there benign, also have 3 spots on liver, had CT scan they recommended mri, could not do test due to clastfobia, doctor thinks beign, but not sure recommended CT scan in 6 months to see if ther is any chang in size, doe this mean it could be cancer , very upset due to family history father colon cancer, mother stomach cancer & brother lung cancer, all died, need some help to know what I have to deal with.
Avatar m tn Hi, I had a MRI scan a couple of days ago but no one has really explained to me what has happened, I will be reviewed by the spinal team as an outpatient. I have posted the results below and I would really appreciate if someone could explain in non medical terms what is happening. Here's some background info. I have had a recurring bad back for the past 10 years, but at the side of my back. Usually every six months for a couple of weeks at a time then back to normal.
Avatar f tn m claustrophobic and probably going to have an MRI, not looking forward to it but still I find it a better option compared to a CT scan. By the way, each the MRI and CT scan are somewhat different in their function/purpose, so take that into consideration too. Good luck to you!
359574 tn?1328360424 Is there anything to be gained, or would it even be possible to get something from the opthalmalogist I saw back then? I had an MRI, but back in the day when you got your appointment during the week the semi-trailer containing the roving machine was docked at one of the hospitals in the mid-sized town where we lived then. It seemed to me he just wanted to make sure I didn't have a brain tumor, and I don't recall any mention of my optic nerves.
1457838 tn?1324627447 I had my first appt on thursday and got to see the heartbeat. I was scheduled another "formal" ultrasound for Feb. 1st as a precautionary because of my history. In Mar. 2010 I lost mono/mono twins at 21 weeks along. (one sac, one placenta, their cords got entangled which lost oxygen and blood flow). In Oct. 2010 I had an early MC around 5 weeks. Now here I am 7w 3d and want to be out of the first trimester so bad.
Avatar f tn oh i also have frequent colds and infections, bruise easy, cuts take a long time to heal, tired alot, sometimes i have bone pain, had a bone scan show hot spots in my sternum and mri was clear, im so fustrated about all of this i want to scream i feel like no one is listening to me
Avatar n tn They can however, detect mental illness such as scitzophreneia which i know because i was diagnosed through an MRI. The only mental illness an MRI scan able detect is an actually different brain connections than that of a normal brain. Ive had one done for mental illess! Can you describe some of your symptoms, what you feel and how often yolou feel it? I know your question is based on needing to know where to get a private MRI scan, which i am unsure of!!
Avatar n tn my wife had a mri scan on her neck the result came back as follows mri on the C- spine showd minor degenerative changes with a normal spinal cord there disc lesion at C6/C7 which corrugates the postrior longitudinal ligament by the spinal cord .
Avatar f tn Is it necessary to have more than one MRI scan done. I have only ever had the one scan, 15 yrs ago which was when I was given my official dx, despite having several episodes/relapses since. Initially told I had RRMS now being told I have SPMS with relapses.
