Mri scan dangerous

Common Questions and Answers about Mri scan dangerous

mri-scan

Avatar n tn I understand these should be avoided while pregnant, but what if they are medically necessary? Has anyone gotten an MRI or Cat Scan while pregnant? What was the outcome, did it have an affect on your baby? Was it worth it? I have been experiencing agonizing pain in my left shoulder, neck, and arm, that sometimes radiates to my chest, making it hard to breathe. I am having a really hard time sleeping, and even functioning, and my quality of life has gone down because of it.
Avatar m tn The vice versa is true for MRI. MRI can produce images in any plane but CT scan cannot. CT scan uses X-ray imaging whereas MRI uses radio waves and magnets. Radiation exposure is moderate in CT scan and there is no radiation exposure in MRI. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else. Take care!
Avatar f tn ve now been reading all kinds of articles on the internet (written by medical professionals) and it seems a CT head scan gives a mega dose of dangerous x-rays. There are differences of opinion among medical professionals but some say even just one CT head scan is risky and should not be undergone unless absolutely necessary. I do not know if benefit outweighs risk in my case, especially as I'm worrying myself sick now as to the safety of having it.
Avatar m tn Keep on the lookout for symptoms specifically nausea, and keep your physician informed. An MRI is less dangerous and more appropriate than a CT, but sometimes an MRI is not available and the risk/benefit decision favors a CT.
Avatar m tn Hi everyone... thanks for having this community... my next step is a MRI with contrast... totally taken by surprise although all of the symptoms are dead on... lots of pain ..I've had 3 lower back surgeries, 1 neck with a metal plate and 6 screws from a whiplash... can someone please help...thank you Normal gray-white differentiation is present. There is no CT evidence of acute cortical ischemia. Subtle patchy low attention is seen in the left frontal sub corral white matter.
Avatar n tn I do question why you are having a CT scan, because an MRI scan with dye contrast is less toxic (the different dye itself is different) and less dangerous), as well as being less dangerous from the standpoint of radiation exposure.
10391405 tn?1412718263 I've had 4 so far. One at 6 weeks, one at 8, a 16 week gender scan, and a 20 week anatomy scan. I'm having another at my next appointment because we couldn't get a pic of the left ventrical at the anatomy scan. Then I'm having a 3D/4d ultrasound at 30 weeks. So I'll have 6 total. My friend that was high risk had one every 2 weeks since 10 weeks.
Avatar n tn I have experianced exactly the same but I have it all the time and it goes tigether with eye pain and blurry vision in that eye.
Avatar f tn Mri is safe during pregnancy just make sure u tell them.
Avatar f tn It sounds like they suspect inflammationn in the lung. You should request an MRI rather than a cat. The MRI is far less dangerous and shows up everything you might want to see. The CAT, which uses x-ray radiation, is an obsolete machine. The "snow storm" could be mucus or fluid, or remnants of an infection. Pain and shortness of breath are consistent with such a problem.
Avatar m tn MR Imaging of brain with contrast reveals large CSF signal intensity lesion in right temporal to frontoparietal region widening the sylvian fissure and causing scalloping of calvaria. No restricted diffusion or post contrast enhancement. Mass effect is seen evidenced by displaced right lateral ventricle and line shift to left. Feature suggests arachnoid cyst.
Avatar n tn I had a brain mri scan for recurrent 'auras' thought to be due to migraine. The result of the scan came back normal except for a few spots of plaques. I am 50, is this normal? I am concerned that it is indicative of early degeneration associated with dementia.
Avatar n tn They can however, detect mental illness such as scitzophreneia which i know because i was diagnosed through an MRI. The only mental illness an MRI scan able detect is an actually different brain connections than that of a normal brain. Ive had one done for mental illess! Can you describe some of your symptoms, what you feel and how often yolou feel it? I know your question is based on needing to know where to get a private MRI scan, which i am unsure of!!
Avatar n tn my wife had a mri scan on her neck the result came back as follows mri on the C- spine showd minor degenerative changes with a normal spinal cord there disc lesion at C6/C7 which corrugates the postrior longitudinal ligament by the spinal cord .
Avatar f tn Is it necessary to have more than one MRI scan done. I have only ever had the one scan, 15 yrs ago which was when I was given my official dx, despite having several episodes/relapses since. Initially told I had RRMS now being told I have SPMS with relapses.
763362 tn?1236624790 I have been referred to Physio and had an initial assesment where the consultant said that it looks like Degenerative Disc Disease, he said the only way to determine this better is by having an MRI scan, on going back to my G.P.

Avatar n tn my doctor said i need an mri scan as a result of suffering with many symptoms for many months- he said i will receive a letter. does this mean he will book it for me or refer me? i live in the uk. anyone know anything about this?
Avatar f tn I have recently had an MRI scan and the report has indicated that I have a L5/S1 circumferential disc bulge whih displaces the exiting L5 nerve roots bilaterally.. On the left this effaces the perineural fate and contacts the L5 nerve root. A neurosurgeon has apparently reviewed my scan and said there is no evidence of this disc bulge without even seeing me and suggested tertherd cord syndrome should be investigated..
Avatar f tn Hi, last year I had an MRI scan. I was having it as the Dr was looking to see if I had an AVM on the brain, I get a lot of headaches and have an AVM on my right forearm. When I went to see the Dr he told me my results, he said there is a malformation there but it isnt an AVM. He then pointed to the temporal lobes and said they are low. I should of asked him what that meant, but I never ask questions when Im there, I just say to myself I should of asked this and I should of asked that.
