One more thought about the cost - did they give you a price for the MRI test? See if you can get that negotiated rate like they do with the big insurance companies. I'm with Anthem and it seems to me they only pay about 20-25% of the rate that is billed for my MRI's. It would be great if you could get this worked out too.

Hi...I am wondering if anyone can give me a rough idea of what an MRI would cost. My hubby is having one in the morning to see what is causing him so much pain in his lower back. We do have insurance but will have to pay the deductable...and 20% of the remaining. I am just trying to get some idea of what we may be facing for out of pocket expense. Thanks so much. Over here in the UK, we generally don't know what the cost of tests and drugs are, as they are covered by the NHS. But over the past 12 months I have started to learn a bit of what thing cost, and it appears that even if you go private they are considerabley cheaper than in the US which to me dosen't seem quite right.

Before you commit to either, if it is going to be out of your pocket, call the facility and discuss discounting the cost if possible,. The cash price for tests and services can often be negotiated if you are not being covered by insurance. Mary is right about MSAA - follow through with them and their assistance plan for MRI's.

Is it necessary to have more than one MRI scan done. I have only ever had the one scan, 15 yrs ago which was when I was given my official dx, despite having several episodes/relapses since. Initially told I had RRMS now being told I have SPMS with relapses.

I don't know of any such centers but if you have a city or county hospital in your area they might be able to provide this information.

I would like to get some information how much it can cost for us when we go to the hospital. I have heard that it can be $4500. Maybe someone can advice the price for lumbar tap/puncture & a blood graph as a confirmatory diagnosis. I will appreciate any information.

If you are considering not doing tx because of the cost trust me, the cost of NOT doing treatment is to high. Talk with your dr, nurse, local agencies about treatment. Hope this helped.

I'm sure the cost varies from one area to another, but we would have no way of knowing what the cost of this or any other medication would be for people in different locations. You would need to check the price with whoever would be dispensing that medication to you (pharmacist? clinic? doctor). Best wishes...

So I looked online and saw that the price for a pelvic MRI in my area runs anywhere from around 2,000-4,500. Since they took scans with and without contrast, I wonder if they’re charging me for 2 separate procedures at the highest rate for each? But it was one appointment, lasting less than an hour; the tech simply added contrast for about the last 10 minutes. Can these things be disputed or renegotiated?

No kidding. I have no idea how much a doctors visit or an MRI costs. I was shown a CRAB "price list" (it was stuck in between the pages of the info/CRAB comparison booklet i was given at the MS clinic) let's just say that but for universal health care, i don't think i would be able to begin the treatment i know i need.

so do these just go away on their own? also the next step would be to do a hsg and clomid with iui. the price he quoted me was 1200. i thought this was expensive. what has anyone else have to pay? my obgyn said she would do the hsg, so my insurance would cover it as opposed to the RE and paying out of pocket.

I had an MRI of the brain back in May, to investigate various cognitive / neurological problems I've been experiencing since the start of 2009 (mild confusion, memory problems, muscle twitching, etc). This came back normal (I have neither copies of the scans , nor the radiographers report - just a letter from neurologist saying all findings were normal).

But, for the DMDs more insurances are making you pay a percentage of the cost. Even 10% of the monthly cost is an insane amount! The email from my local NMSS was asking me to sign a petition of protest. As of right now, my state (NY) does not allow them to change the policy to charge a % if the rest of the policy is a tiered co-pay.

going on a different med, but thought if it stayed at that price, it might still be doable. I just picked up my new refill yesterday and the cost was $245 for my same 84 gelcaps. Prior to this latest refill my insurance has not covered any of my refills. On this last refill, insurance did pay $70. That means that without insurance a 3 month supply would be $315. That's triple what it started out at ($85). IMO that is excessive for a thyroid medication.
