765439 tn?1292960414 Nevertheless, if you feel strongly about not having a CT scan, you can call your doctor and tell him or her that you want an MRI instead of a CT scan. But be aware that your insurance may decline to cover the cost of the MRI since CTs are the standard for a 21 y/o male patient.
567677 tn?1246767776 One more thought about the cost - did they give you a price for the MRI test? See if you can get that negotiated rate like they do with the big insurance companies. I'm with Anthem and it seems to me they only pay about 20-25% of the rate that is billed for my MRI's. It would be great if you could get this worked out too.
Avatar f tn Is it necessary to have more than one MRI scan done. I have only ever had the one scan, 15 yrs ago which was when I was given my official dx, despite having several episodes/relapses since. Initially told I had RRMS now being told I have SPMS with relapses.
Avatar m tn It is my understanding that the SPECT scan is not the latest in brain imaging technology. For most conditions, MRI is a preferred technique. However, it is not unheard of to find a new application for an old method, and from what I have read, this is the case with SPECT scans for imaging the effects of Lyme on the brain. As of now, I don't have any laboratory evidence that my treatment is doing anything.
Avatar m tn I just had my first abdominal MRI last week. No results back yet. I had just been getting ultrasounds every 6 mon. up until this point. After listening to a talk from the Liver Meeting about alternating with other methods, I suggested it to my doctor. He was fine with it as long as the insurance would cover it.
987762 tn?1671273328 The MRI The purpose of a MRI or magnetic resonance imaging machine, is to harmlessly work out what internally is physically wrong with you, without involving exploratory surgery. MRIs have 3 types: conventional, open bore and fully open. In an conventional MRI, a long toroidal (Doughnut-shaped) electromagnet supplies the electromagnetic force, and the subject is put through a long 'tunnel', where a full-body scan is supplied.
148588 tn?1465778809 Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is extremely useful in the detection and characterization of regenerating and dysplastic nodules and HCC (Table 1). Several studies have demonstrated the superiority of MRI in both lesion detection and characterization for focal hepatic lesions when compared to CT. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
Avatar m tn I had an MRI of the brain back in May, to investigate various cognitive / neurological problems I've been experiencing since the start of 2009 (mild confusion, memory problems, muscle twitching, etc). This came back normal (I have neither copies of the scans , nor the radiographers report - just a letter from neurologist saying all findings were normal).
1036535 tn?1278502599 t been covered is the increased cost of malpractice insurance. This costs probably 100k a year. Patients sue all the time; some for legitimate reasons, many are not legitimate. All of the doctors, hospitals and/or clinics have to pay individually. We are a litigious country. Then doctors often practice 'Defensive Medicine" due to the high rise of malpractice suits. They will order more tests then necessary to keep their malpractice rates lower. Again, because of those who sue.
Avatar n tn An ultrasound and an uptake scan are different tests. :o) Didn't know FNA's were so expensive though...ouch.
Avatar f tn support includes providing free medications, distributing these medications free of charge to patients, and administering programs that help patients obtain this assistance. In total, Astellas has contributed nearly $25 million in commercial value to assisting patients in need.
Avatar m tn did they order a follow up with an MRI ? this usually gives a better picture on what it is. I can tell you that most lesions on the liver are hemangiomas which are benign and nothing to worry about.
Avatar f tn I would like to get some information how much it can cost for us when we go to the hospital. I have heard that it can be $4500. Maybe someone can advice the price for lumbar tap/puncture & a blood graph as a confirmatory diagnosis. I will appreciate any information.
Avatar n tn Not sure where you live - I am in the US and I haven't had any problems getting copies of tests, MRI scans etc. Whenever I have an MRI, I am given the disc right then to take to my neuro's office. My neuro is sent the written report of the MRI results. When I see my neuro for follow up, I bring the MRI disc. He looks at it then, and reviews it with me. I only get a copy of the radiologists report if I ask for it. Sorry you are feeling stressed out.
Avatar f tn An abdominal CT scan provides information about a number of different aspects of liver disease. The CT scan can see any anatomical abnormalities such as an enlarged spleen, enlarged or shrunken liver, nodular surface of the liver, enlarged portal vein, and collateral veins without contrast. Then a pass can be done with contrast to enhance viewing of any masses seen in the liver. The CT scan if it uses three phases can determine if a liver mass is characteristic of HCC (liver cancer).
739070 tn?1338603402 In clinical practice, these criteria are not appropriate for patients with nonspecific neurological symptoms and signs and an abnormal MRI scan. Caution is also advisable for patients older than 50 or younger than 20. As always, other diseases must be excluded; careful history and exam are needed to identify "red flags" against MS diagnosis.
Avatar f tn Other than cost, is there a reason I should have a CT scan instead of an MRI? I would rather not have the radiation exposure of a CT scan if an MRI will produce adequate data. Thank you!
Avatar m tn He jumped from a Heart Cath with angiogram to a Cardiac MRI. Perhaps it is the cost of doing an IVUS which makes it less popular. Health insurance companies may not want to pay for it as a diagnostic tool.
Avatar n tn I had an MRI, Ct scan AND several xrays done for my migraines. i get them a lot. the MRI and Ct scan both came back fine.... the xrays showed that i have extra fluid in my sinuses, which was later diagnosed as sinusitis.
