Avatar f tn My mom had an MRI and it stated she has an "extra- axial pre-pontine lesion measuring 3.4 X 3.2 X 2.2." I was wondering if anyone knew if a PET scan show benign tumors because she had a PET scan done last year after being diagnosed with maligant melanoma on her arm but the PET scan did not show anything at the time. So I was just wondering if a PET scan would even show a benign spot? Also can melenoma spread to the brain if her lymph nodes were negative?
Avatar f tn Did a cardio cath and found nothing. Primary sent me to a Neurology Dr who read CT scan wanted to do a MRI. MRI showed 1 cm meningioma in the left frontal lobe without significant mass effect or associated edema. Ventricular size remains normal linits. Also scattered T2 hyperintensities within the periventricular deep white matter of both hemispheres. this is a nonspecific finding, can be seen as sequelea of chronic miscrovascular insult, hypertension, diabetes.
Avatar n tn i had mri scan of my brian 3 weeks ago and now want me to have another with the dye injected first . does this mean they have found somehing wrong ?
Avatar f tn Headaches after a brain injury can also be due to concussion, and normally CT and MRI are normal. However, yes, MRI should be done to rule out brain injury as the cause. Stress due to concussion and brain injury can also be the cause. Also get your blood pressure checked. Take care!
Avatar f tn Hi, My mom was diagnosed with OVCA stage IV last year and received 6 x chemo taxol/carboplatin. 6 months after completing the chemo, she was experiencing stroke symptoms (July 09). MRI showed that there are 4 tumors on the brain. Per neurosurgeon, the tumors can't be operated because of the position. She received Novalis (radiosurgery). A month later she was in coma, because of increasing in brain pressure. After high dosage of steroid, she was ok.
402689 tn?1201578212 2 Inoperable RCC brain tumors 7mm & 11mm to pons area/brain stem were treated with CyberKnife on 9/25 and 10/2/07. No real problems, Last MRI done 12/27/07 tumors appeared to be larger, 13mm & 10mm, some subsequent edema/dizziness took additional steroids, stopped > 3 weeks ago. CONCERN Numbness to right side of head/face/neck right forearm/hand & right ankle/foot has occurred within last week. Called the doc this week and they said to just take it easy.
Avatar n tn Hello, I'd like to ask if MRI without contrast can miss brain tumors, i've been told that contrast is injected only when something is seen on a normal scan to give further detail. I had my mri results reviewed by a radiologist and two neurologists just in case someone failed to spot something, is it safe to assume it's not a tumor? Thanks.
Avatar f tn It can show tumors if large or causing mass effect on adjacent structures but may miss smaller or more subtle tumors. If high clinical concern for tumor, consider MRI brain with and without contrast. However, different clinical scenarios may require tailored approaches. For more info: https://acsearch.acr.
Avatar m tn Nothing should make you run straigt to a $1400 MRI. If you have eye symptoms run to a Eye MD ophthalmologist. Find one at www.aao.org Some worrisome symptoms might include double vision, loss of peripheral vision, severe headaches with nausea and vomiting, dilated pupil on one side, droopy eyelid. Other things can cause these besides brain tumors.
Avatar f tn An MRI sees tumors. I hope after you get your scan you know more. Let us know!
Avatar n tn My seventy year old father complained of headaches and some weakness. Bringing him to the emergency room seemed precautionary, but his ct scan revealed a 'mass.' He is now having mri, and a complete battery of tests. I am so devastated because the first (ct scan) result seems like obvious brain tumor. Can you give me not false hope, but some reason for optimism? Is it possible the 'mass' could represent something else?
Avatar n tn If you are having neurological symptoms, a CT scan or MRI of the brain is what they use to find brain tumors, but the pituitary takes a separate MRI, because it is such a small gland and general MRIs of the brain might miss a tumor there.
Avatar n tn CT scans also detect calcium well. MRI scan is better for soft tissues, including tumors. However, CT scans done in combination with intravenous dye (give through a vein), a CT scan with contrast, will often show an abnormality such as a tumor. A CT scan, combined with a good neurologic physical examination by a neurologist, should be able to suggest or exclude whether or not there is an abnormality such as a tumor, because most tumors as associated with other neurologic signs on examination.
Avatar n tn Anyways in April 2010 I had a brain MRI with and without contrast that came back negative.... I went to see a neurologist because I thought I felt dizzy sometimes, of balance, forehead felt compacted..slight pain in head...etc... Anyways...I have a history with sinus problems.. post nasal drip, always stuffed up nose, and things of that nature... Right now I feel like my equal Librium is off balance, and feel stuff up in the forehead, just slightly dizzy a couple times...
1545021 tn?1322477485 Usually contrast is given if there is a history of tumor, cancer or surgery, infection or inflammation, to evaluate blood vessels and to investigate a finding on the pre contrast part of the scan. Though MRI contrast is safer than that of CT, the common side effects possible are allergic reactions, flushing, hives, shortness of breath etc. Hope this helps. Take care.
Avatar n tn Can a CT scan of the brain detect tumors including third nerve tumors or any kind of optical tumor?
Avatar n tn Hello, Yes, your brain anatomy can be visualized on an MRI scan. A CAT scan can visualize skull fractures, tumors, etc., but an MRI shows your underlying vascular structures of the brain. I, too, have suffered with trigeminal neuralgia, which has been controlled with Neurontin and also steroid injection blocks in head and neck. I hope this has been of some help to you.....Take care.....
Avatar m tn I have seen my PCP and I have had a CT scan done. I have tried the MRI machine but even with a valium I cannot complete the test because I am very claustrophobic. I have not been having any headaches or any upset stomach or vomiting. My balance and memory are fine. Im not on any medication. I am 33 year old overweight male. I have had all bloodwork and diabetes test performed and come back normal. I just completed a heart echo and carotid artery test and came out normal as well.
671285 tn?1292660161 Are brain tumors very common in people in their 20's? Or is it a disease that is more common with elderly folks? I heard that brain tumors are RARE for a young person to get. Is this true? If someone feels dizzy, has pain behind the eyes, and an ear that rings, this does not necessarily mean a tumor does it?
Avatar n tn The vast majority of headaches are not brain tumors. Brain tumors are actually very rare, and headaches can be caused so many different things. Headaches are just one of many symptoms of brain tumors (and they are rarely the sole presenting symptom). Also, in 3-4 years you would have most likely developed other symptoms (or be dead by now) if it were a brain tumor. That said, it might be appropriate to have an mri to help figure out what is going on.
Avatar m tn First off, despite more people being diagnosed with primary brain tumors, they are still relatively uncommon. A good percentage of people develop brain tumors while fighting another form of cancer such as lung or colon cancer. Also know that a good number of people diagnosed with brain tumors do not present with headaches. I think you should see an ENT because it could be something as simple as an inner ear infection which can cause dizziness and ringing in the ears.
Avatar f tn And please note that CAT-Scans are not gold standard imaginary study for brain pathology, please do a brain MRI with Contrast (Gadolinium) and let me know about the result. Avatar f tn full blood count and cpr i think there was another one too but cant remember, its not the fatique thats the worst part is the feeling in my head as its so strong when it happens and it happens about 5 hours a day it really feels awfull and when i read about brain tumours it says people have said they had a weird feeling thats hard to describe to the dr when they had a brain tumour, the dr i got at the moment i really doubt will give me a ct scan or mri scan as he only offerd me a blood test when i
Avatar f tn They did another ct scan which showed up a shadow so they did a mri and was dx with a small tumor in the frontal lobe affecting her speech, memory etc. They have given her medication to control the seizures and released her telling her to have another mri in 4 weeks when theyll decide what treatment is needed. They may do a biopsy to find out what kind of cells are there and possibly surgery. If not surgery what other kind of treatment is there?
Avatar f tn ve talked to at least 786,000 people who believed they had brain tumors. How many of those actually DID have brain tumors? ZERO. I myself had a brain tumor during my entire teen-age and early adult years. I had the constant headaches, too. After I had an MRI, my "brain tumor" was discovered to be abnormally formed sinuses and a need for glasses. They rotor rooted my snout, I got some glasses, the headaches went away and my tumor has not, as yet, regrown.
