Avatar m tn Aloha To all who were kind enough to answer my question on withdrawal from morphine, I want to thank you for your help. I have gotten some help from an acupuncture doctor and with his help I was able to not have any withdrawal symptoms at all. This is something any one ging through drug withrawals should consider since it is painless and works.
1148698 tn?1261715542 Your Dr may want to give you asome type of benzodiazapine concurrently with elavil to alleviate the anxiousness associated with withdrawal. I have never heard of Elavil ALONE being used to treat withdrawal symptoms. Elavil is one of the older antidrepressants. QUESTION: Is your Dr. an Addiction Specialist? Has he mentioned Suboxone to treat the Withdrawal Syndrome? You may want to mention this to him as I know of no use for Elavail other than for depression.
1158557 tn?1262725929 I know this is one of the symptoms that the doctors related to my being in morphine withdrawal as well. Hope my experience helps.
1271743 tn?1320892461 If you are taking Morphine for a couple of months and the doctor changes you to Methadone, will the Methadone prevent withdrawal symptoms normally experienced from stopping the Morphine?
Avatar f tn Again...my attempts to quit failed. I was on day 2.5 of withdrawals and couldn't take it. I couln't sit still for 1 second, paced my house endlessly for hours...someof you know how it is so I won't go on. Funny thing happened. I ran out of my refill of 10mg hydrocodones early (as usualy) and found about 20 pills of 30mg morphine extended release. I made those last for a week...and when I saw I had 2 left I decided I would quit again.
Avatar f tn I had already experienced some withdrawal symptoms by that point, mainly stomach upset that I was treating with Immodium and Pepto. However, the last 4 days have been miserable. By mid-day Friday, I had a full blown migraine with all the side effects, which had been normal for me prior to the methadone treatment. It is still going full steam, the Morphine has no effect. I cannot keep any food or much water down. Then this morning, I started having seizures/convulsions, 2 so far.
Avatar f tn will i experience withdrawal symptoms? i know that no one can say for sure, but there must be someone out there who can speak to this situation that i am in. i am frightened, or more appropriately, i have a sense of dread about having to go through withdrawal on top of all of the other health problems that i have right now. in may of last year i was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, and in feb of this year i was diagnosed with crohn's.
Avatar f tn m worried about my pain levels, obviously, but even more worried about the withdrawal symptoms...and taking morphine scares me a little....any input would be greatly appreciated!
1157044 tn?1318300124 You will find that emotional upheaval, especially negative thoughts and quite severe depression, are well established as withdrawal symptoms from morphine use. Hope this is helpful. It does end I'm told. Unfortunately I have probably 6 to 12 months left before I find out personally.
Avatar m tn The way to avoid withdrawal symptoms is to go slow-- reduce by about 10% per month, for example. Most of the time people taper more quickly, because if it goes too slowly the person will end up increasing the dose on impulse before the next step down. I usually end up prescribing a few days to at most a week supply, and dropping the dose by 10% every couple weeks.
647120 tn?1256601651 m prescribed 200mgs daily. because i have been in withdraw and it does scare me to death. But, the morphine does control my pain quite well. (I suffer from Degenerative Disk Disease and other back/spinal problems). But i'm not recommending anything as i am NOT a doc or in the medical profession. But i've HEARD that methadone is a beast. and i've never taken Oxy but i've heard and read that its perhaps a step up from morphine sulfate. but not sure.
Avatar f tn Just a guess why they are not helping your withdrawal symptoms is they are quite a low relative dose compared to 150mgs of morphine/day. This currently sounds like more a transition question than a no more opiates one, correct me if I'm wrong by the way. I'd suggest that you stabilise for a few weeks after coming off the morphine and assess your pain levels when your body has re-wired a bit before going to the pain clinic.
Avatar n tn Well it's been 22 hrs since I've taken anything for pain. I was on OpanaER and Morphine tabs. I took this to withdrawl off Oxycodone 90mgs evry 4hrs and Dilaude 16 mg evry 4hrs. I took them for 1 week. I cried, screamed and I was so emotional. Now I'm getting off the opana and morphine. I got cloidine, Xanax, something for my stomach, Soma for the spasms in ur muscle, and something for sleep. So far so good. You can feel the withdrawls even with the opana and morphine but not as bad.
647120 tn?1256601651 Recently, I have been posting about my excessive morphine withdrawal symptoms and the lack of empathy from my pain manager. Ever the self-manager, I am trying to research ways to alleviate the symptoms since my pain manager won't, and I found a couple of articles that *might* fit together.
Avatar m tn It does sound like it could be withdraw symptoms. Usually withdraw last about 7 days. The worst days are days 3-4. Just let him know that things will get better. Luckily he was not on the meds for very long so his withdraw will not be as severe as other peoples on here. He should be fine in no time.
Avatar n tn Its possible that you are having some withdrawal symptoms. I've found that with Opana, it either works for someone or not at all. It has a bio-availability of about 10-20% which kind of skews the conversion from morphine to Opana, in my own personal opinion. Is it helping you with your pain?
Avatar f tn My doctor a year later completely took me off the Tramadol and replaced it with Morphine ER with Percocet for break through pain and I had no withdrawal symptoms from stopping the Tramadol at all!!! By the way, when I stopped the Tramadol completely, I was taking the same amount as you per day. The amount of Fentanyl you are on is stronger than the starting dose of Morphine that I was on when I stopped taking Tramadol.
Avatar m tn Hi Linton,I had a similar period of use at one time and it took me about 20 days to get over it.That includes mental, energy, sleep, etc. The bad withdrawal symptoms were only a couple of days. You can do this pretty easily.just hang in there and don't mess up like I did and get feeling better and then start using for another 8 months. It will and does suk.I am on day 25 and am not even close to coming out of the woods as far as mental and energy are concerned.
Avatar n tn d rather deal with the pain then being chained to an opiate type drug for the rest of my life. I already know what the withdrawal symptoms are like since I went through them in the confusion of the aftermath of Katrina (New Orleans Native) when I didn't have access to the patches for over 3 weeks.
Avatar m tn Hello Rocketmentor, Please don't think that I am insinuating you are having a substance issue....but I suggest that you post your question in the Substance Abuse Forum. I suggest this ONLY because they have much more experience with withdrawal and medications in this matter. I am not sure which one is more difficult to withdrawal from...as I think all our systems are a bit different. Here's the link: http://www.medhelp.
