Morphine vs percocet for pain relief

Common Questions and Answers about Morphine vs percocet for pain relief

percocet

210982 tn?1280983895 The percocet has i'll just say tylenol because i can't spell the other word for it. So maybe that combination works better for your pain then just morphine alone. Percocet isn't as strong as morphine so if it works better I would just take that because when the time comes to stop taking pain meds it will (or should be) be easier to get off of a weaker pain med.
1529480 tn?1291877134 I am having the same problem with my doctor. I was first on 120 5/235 percocets. I had to take 2 at a time ( my doctor always knew this ). I needed something for the night time, but she just put me on some muscle relaxers, flexeril, that helped me sleep..... a little, not much. Finally I had had enough. I went to her asking for one more dose of the percocet for night time. She instead put me on MS contin 15 mg 3x a day. I hated it. She also gave me 60 percocet 5/325 for breakthrough pain.
Avatar f tn You may need a short acting opioid in conjunction with the opana or nucynta. I still have pain after taking the long acting morphine and I take percocet for the pain that breaks through a couple of times per day. Given that it happens regularly, I could probably use another titration of the morphine but I haven't bothered since my pain is covered after taking the percocet.
Avatar f tn s a lot of pregnant women that are prescribed narcotics for their pain because they have severe conditions and the pain and stress causes more harm. The doctorsknow how to do it without it being life threatning.
Avatar n tn I hope you continue to do well on the lyrica and get ample pain relief from the nerve pain you have. I also deal with a lot of nerve pain and I know that it can be very painful and difficult to tolerate at times. Keep in touch and if you have any more questions, I will be more than happy to try to help!
541953 tn?1262586226 I have been on morphine er 60mgs twice a day for my chronic pain among other issues. Yesterday I found out I had extensive nerve damage in my lower back. And my doctor changed my meds from the morphine to Opana Er 20 mgs twice a day. what is the difference? does anyone know? I tried to google and got nothing. I was just wondering if this is just a different brand name for morphine but stronger? thanks in advance for your help.
Avatar f tn I am on both morphine and percocet-the morphine for my regular med and the percocets for breakthrough pain. But it is ALL breakthrough pain to me! Pain is abnormal and therefore it is breaking through into my life-a life that was once normal in which I could pursue activities wholeheartedly rather than cringing with pain with each step I take, with each move I make. Give your body a chance to adjust to the medication and see what happens. It may end up being a god send for pain relief.
Avatar n tn My doctors have switched me from percocet to MS Contin. I have yet to take the MS Contin. The Pharm. told me it was in the same family of percocet but i am still doubtful. The MS contin is suppose to be taken every 12 hours. I am afraid that if I take one I can't take anything else for pain if it doesn't work. I would have to wait 12 hours.
Avatar m tn Fentanyl is a stonger form of an opioid. Opiate and opioid mean the same thing: Opiate is an adjective while opioid is a noun. Percocet is an opioid as is fentanyl. They are synthetic which means they are man made and not derived from a plant. Good job on getting off the Percocet!
Avatar f tn m 29, have had severe abdominal pain for about 14 years and started going to pm about a year and a half ago and for about 4 months I was on over 200 10mg Percocets and 90 10mg morphine a month. After 4 months of that I changed doctors and he out me on the fentanyl patch. Started me off at 25 and I am now taking 125mg every two days. Personally, I do not even feel like I am on any type of drug when taking these patches. They do not and have not ever made me feel high in any way at all.
Avatar f tn i have taken morphine 60mg long acting and morphine 30mg short acting for over 10 years, recently my doctor switched me to oxycotin 60mg & roxycotin 30mg bacause the morphine wasnt helping so much anymore and i am experiencing withdraws now. Why???? Does my dose need to be increased or should i ask my dr to give me 5 roxycodone a day instead of 3 times a day?
Avatar m tn My question is what is the best medication for extended relief. The doc has me on 10/325 generic Percocet and 15mg of morphine sulfate. I am still in constant pain and my next appointment is 2 days from now. Is there a possible increase in dosage that might help or should I ask for another med?
1866508 tn?1333984613 I have recently been referred to a new pain management doc and he is in the process of adding/switching me over to Kadian for long-acting pain control vs. just the Norco I have been on....my question primarily is how long will it take for me to adjust to the change from short acting opiate to the extended release meds...
1448748 tn?1312956208 The surgery was the first thing I have ever had to have pain medicine for sure for. I could not do it. Now that I am home I take Oxycodone for pain and Baclofen for my muscle relaxer. The muscle relaxer is really the one that makes the difference. That is where my pain is coming from but I can only take it every 8 hours. I would discuss your options prior if you can. I would not recommend morphine but that was based on my experience and everyone is different.
Avatar f tn Methadone often is prescribed for pain, chronic pain. So if that is an issue for you discuss an increase with your physician to control the pain and you may kill two birds with one stone....pardon the expression. Good luck to you. It is so difficult for ppl with chronic pain that become addicts. My heart goes out to you.
11214965 tn?1416269155 Erika, Percocet is a good medication for short term pain -- recovery from surgery, broken bone, anything that lasts for 3-6 months. The fentanyl patch is meant for people who have chronic pain and are tolerant to opioids. When the percocet stops working and you need multiple dose escalations, your doctor may suggest changing to a long-active / extended release opioid analgesic, like Duragesic.
Avatar m tn Well, I am on the 14th day and I have to say the the MSContin has NO relief for my pain. Even when I shattered my leg skiing and I was in the hospital on a MorphinePatient button drip, it did nothing. Does anyone have this problem of Morphine drugs not having ANY affect on pain for them? I don't even feel the side affects and I am still going through the DT's from the Methadone. At least the Methadone kept my pain at bay so I could function.
Avatar f tn if you have been taking that much and taking it as prescribed for legitimate pain you could be just dependent but you post tells me your also taking it for the anti/anxiety effects and its numbing effects as well...that is when you crossed the line over to addiction...
Avatar f tn New here and after looking around decided I might try to reach out for some advice. Chronic pain is the hardest thing to get someone to understand unless of course they have been through it. Background: Began with a spine issue, assorted lower back pain and such years ago. I saw my gp, had an MRi turned out to have minor bulges, arthirtis and a bunch of other small things I can't remember.
413886 tn?1203607351 I want to quit c/t but after the whole oxy thing I went through, I am scared to death! My Dr. thinks the taper thing would be best, but sometimes I don't feel that me quitting is in his best interest. I have been reading this forum for the past 3 weeks and I can't get enough of it. Everyone is great! I know there is never a perfect time but I have soooo much going on between work and music and my 4 year old son.....I know just excuses! This just snuck up on me again!
Avatar m tn today is day 22 off of Percocet, I am about to go to the doctor, I have no desire to get anything narcotic for my pain(herniated discs w/ nerve impingement)........can anyone recommend any non-narcotic/non-habit forming pain medication? I do not want to go through w/d's again......I learned first-hand that taking percocet, as directed for over a year(7.5/325 every 4 hours)can still get you addicted even if you're not abusing it .
Avatar f tn Many MANY people feel that hydrocodone is not a very good pain reliever. Other than providing a 'buzz' (i.e. "euphoria"), it doesn't really mitigate pain that well. Perhaps that is why the entire world (except the USA) has BANNED its use! Whereas morphine is the mother-of-all opiates, the prototype opiate, the 'original' opiate! Morphine can mitigate just about any kind of pain (that's why it's been used in the battlefield for decades).
Avatar n tn I am an Engineer that has worked in the industry for over 12 years. The last 6 years I have been on pain medications. First Tramadol and then vicodin, and now morphine and percocet. I continue to do a great job and produce fantastic products. My managers know about my chronic pain and are very accepting of the pain medications I take as they don't affect my job performance and they know that I am responsible with my meds.
Avatar f tn I take percocet and morphine for pain. I was on my way to getting off but then took them for a bad pain day and that's all she wrote. My pain is getting better and there are less days of severe pain but now I am totally addicted. I have two doctors. It was just going to be for one month until I could withdrawal myself off and now it's been two months and I will probably fill another script for a thrid month. This second doctor actually charges $15.
