Avatar m tn An opiate is natural and from the opium poppy plant. Examples of these would be heroine, opium, morphine and codeine. An opioid is a synthetic drug made to mimic the effects of an opiate. These would be Percocet, Fentanyl, Methadone, Oxy, Demerol, etc. Opiates are said to be more addictive. As far as your question about receptors....yes there are differences. I used to say opiate and opioids not knowing the difference until I googled "Opiate vs Opioid" a couple years ago.
Avatar n tn no, hydrocodone is vicodin. Morphine sulfate is the active ingredient in morphine. If you are worried about a possible reaction to the medication, I would speak to your local pharmacists. I'm not sure if hydrocodone and morphine are in the same family of drugs. I know vicodin and percocet are in a similar family (due to codine), but morphine is much different. refer to this website. http://www.rxlist.com/duramorph-drug.
Avatar n tn Opiates include Opium itself, which is the resin obtained from the seed pod of the opium poppy, along with Morphine, Heroin and Codeine. These can all be produced from raw opium by fairly simple chemical processing. Synthetic analgesics are manufactured as powders, tablets, or liquids. They include Methadone (usually as a syrup), Physeptone (a methadone tablet), Pethidine, Diconal and Palfium. Which analgesics are abused? Analgesics - particularly opiates - have a high potential for abuse.
79998 tn?1291184601 I've been off the stuff for about a week and a half...the withdrawal wasn't that bad as I expected in terms of the depression. I was down for a bit but my girlfriend is too much fun to be depressed. Anyway, how long does it take for the natural endorphins to come back and is requip good for withdrawal restless legs because I haven't slept much at all. I've been going to the gym and I swear the pain is so exagerated right now it's ridiculous.

Avatar n tn If Pholcodine has codeine in it that could cause the sleepiness and dizzines. Codeinne, like morphine, is a derivative of opium. It would be possible that you had an allergic reaction, but I am thinking it was more just the normal side effects of codeine. It would really depend on what you mean by "felt very sick". I suggest you call your doctor of pharmacist and tell them ALL your symptoms and see what they think. Take care and feel better.
230262 tn?1316645934 They begin taking it when they are sick, relying on its anesthetic properties — opium is also used to make morphine. Sarab, a village located at 8,000 feet (2,438 meters) and snowed in for up to three months a year, is a day's walk over mountain paths to the nearest hospital. The few shops in town do not even sell aspirin. "Opium is our doctor," says Beg. "When your stomach hurts, you take a smoke. Then you take a little more. And a little more. And then, you're addicted.
Avatar m tn Basically I have not motivation to move or do anything at all. The only thing which helps is opiates like opium, morphine and heroin. From time to time I have had to take one or the other just to be able to do things which were needed to be done. I have no craving for opiates and I don't take large quatity of them and I stay away from heroine if there are other trhings available. Opium is my preferred substance. I repeat I only take it because at times I have to get things done.
Avatar n tn I don't know abt. the patch, it seems like it would prolong the withdrawl. Possibly delay the inevitable but give some relief. Are you withdrawling voluntarily or till your next prescription ? Usually by day 5 a person starts to feel better and alot of the really bad stuff is over. I really do think the fentanly is a bad idea but I know how being addicted goes, we just want it to go away. I hope the best for you and I wish I knew more abt. your situation to give a good opinion.
Avatar n tn my father was in hospice and yes his health was failing and he was dying on his nursing home bed but my questiion is , it is strange that right when the hospice nurse came to give my dad his morphine shot about two minutes later he died, now you ask, did i want to see him continue to die,?
Avatar f tn While buprenorphine metabolites do not include these opioids, false positives can include morphine, codeine, heroin, and opium. The instant UDT test is simply not accurate. Incidentally, the naloxone in your Suboxone film will nulify any effects of opiates like morphine. A specific quantitative testing for buprenorphine should be made to monitor compliance with Suboxone therapy.
Avatar m tn Not something I have ever seen in the hospital so just curious: Opium is a narcotic formed from the latex (i.e. sap) released by lacerating (or "scoring") the immature seed pods of opium poppies (Papaver somniferum). It contains up to 16% morphine, an opiate alkaloid, which is most frequently processed chemically to produce heroin for the illegal drug trade. The resin also includes codeine and non-narcotic alkaloids, such as papaverine and noscapine.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis in my early teens, and then Ulcerative Colitis in my mid teens. Around 18 I had the ileo-anal j-pouch surgery, and had a bunch of complications after the first surgery but eventually that turned out alright. I've had difficulty for the most part ever since, and have never had much success in finding a way to make my stomach not feel like an acidic mess for the past 9 years.
Avatar m tn 5 Far from appearing to be a prohibition law, the Harrison Narcotic Act on its face was merely a law for the orderly marketing of opium, morphine, heroin, end other drugs-in small quantities over the counter, and in larger Quantities on a physician's prescription. Indeed, the right of a physician to prescribe was spelled out in apparently unambiguous terms: "Nothing contained in this section shall apply . . .
210982 tn?1280983895 Yes, Morphine IS stronger than Percocet by far.
210982 tn?1280983895 Maybe you could just stop the morphine all together and just use the percocet. Morphine is more addictive and harder to wd from. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Doing really good on lyrica so hopefully will hold so i can get off morphine, i have been down to 30mg now for 4 days and dont feel any signs of withdrawals i went from 60mg .
Avatar m tn The last time I rotated was from Oxycodone to morphine and it made a huge difference in my baseline dose, however, it did not work as well for breakthrough pain. So I asked my doc to up my BT medication by 15 mg. This process is called titration and must be done as partnership between doctor and patient, especially during the introduction of a new medication. Best wishes.
1529480 tn?1291877134 My doctor prescribed me 90 15mg morphine sulf ER for a month then I went up to 90 30mg morphine sulf ER. I also was getting 60 5/325 percocets for breakthru pain. I left that doctor to completely get off of the pain killers. I recently went back because I need them due to more pain. He gave me 120 5/325 percs for the first month, then he told me he wanted me directly back on the morphine. I almost cried because I do not want on the morphine.
Avatar m tn I was on morphine SR 60mg twice a day for years and my doctor switched me to fentanyl 25 patch. I ended up with severe withdrawal and went back to the morphine for a week until my next appt where he put me on the 50 patch. Still I am going through withdrawals. My pharmacist says I can't be but I know 100% that's what is happening. Anyone else deal with this?
