Avatar f tn Morphine is also one of the ones they use during labor. I think you are okay, but with extended dosing it is considered a narcotic and can be addictive. If you do use during pregnancy, then the delivery staff need to know so they can monitor baby for withdrawl symptoms. It may make your delivery stay a little longer. It doesn't harm babies development though as far as I know. Definitely ask a pharmacist though they are much more familar with drugs and contraindications of taking them.
237039 tn?1264258057 I have been given Morphine in the hospitals during my heart attacks, and most recently was given Morphine quite frequently. I was told last April, the reason they were giving me Morphine at short intervals is because it "oxygenates" the heart. As long as I had the chest pains they were administering the Morphine at 30 minute intervals. I protested the frequent use, but was told it was for that reason I was being given that much.
Avatar n tn This means that it is not known whether buprenorphine and naloxone will be harmful to an unborn baby. Use of buprenorphine and naloxone during pregnancy may cause withdrawal symptoms in a newborn baby. Do not take buprenorphine and naloxone if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment. Contrary to what you may have heard methadone is not safe during pregnancy, it is actually more dangerous to a baby than heroin. I am not sure why doctors prescribe it but they shouldn't.
Avatar f tn It hard to cope. I know oxycontin is pregnancy category B and Morphine is pregnancy category C but I was curious if it is more likely for neonatal withdrawals form morphine or oxycontin? I think oxycontin has a higher molecular weight and therefore harder time crossing the mom baby barrier. Heard two moms taking 40 mg three times a day had no withdrawals, but didnt know it would be the same for the morphine or not. I am taking 15 mg twice a day of oxcycontin and 40 mg of oxycodone.
Avatar n tn THe truth is and I know this from experience is that very littler but, most likely nothing can pass from you to the baby until there is a placenta that takes over, at 7-8 weeks there is not a fully functioning Placenta. The fact that you have already quit the drugs is GREAT and as long as you stay clean your baby should have no adverse affects from the medicine you took.... However, you HAVE to stay clean and not go back Esp. while pregnant. If you do and dont't disclose to your Dr.
Avatar f tn but I was told by a hospital one time (dont go on just my word though) that narcotics used correctly during pregnancy is the only pain killers u can use during pregnancy besides Tylenol cause they bypass the uterus and don't get to the baby....
1412606 tn?1282882129 What pain meds can I use for chronic pain during pregnancy. Of course I will talk to a Doctor before I get pregnant, so please don't say go to your doctor. I would like to know specific medications that have been prescribed to patients who are pregnant with nerve pain?
Avatar m tn I take 240mg morphine s/r , 2 x dihydrocodeine 30mg each, 2 x zydol, 1 x baclofen, 1 x pantoprazole in the morning & in evening. 100ml of oramorph during the day & another 4 dihydrocodeine & 2 x baclofen during the day. Sometimes I have 4 paracetamol too. This has gone on for 5 years slowly increased more & more by my doctor. I had an accident at work crushhing my back.
Avatar f tn Just remember, narcotics have been around for a LONG time and so there is a whole lot more known about the possible problems associated with them during pregnancy than almost any other medications. My OBs were always comfortable with what I was taking - in fact, they PREFERRED the opioid meds for my migraines versus medications like Imitrex or Maxalt.
Avatar f tn She has been vomiting whatever she is eating for the past day. The doctor has suggested not to give her morphine as it would increase the bout. The medicine given to her to control her vomit isn't working. What should we do? Also what pain medication should we give her now that morphine is not an option. Please help.
Avatar f tn ll read this, but I feel inclined to shout it to the heavens-- YOU DID NOT HARM YOUR CHILD. As a medical professional, I could spout out lost of statistics regarding opioid use during pregnancy (both prescribed and abused) along with CP dx's. But I'll keep with the meat of what I'm saying.... You are a good mother for being concerned, obviously your adore your little one, CP and all. If you truly dumped your meds 12 days in, you are faultless here.
Avatar f tn Morphine must be okay for the liver because that's what they used when I was in the ICU following my liver transplant. Be VERY careful with morphine. I was on it for 7 days and went wacky with hallucinations of all kinds.
Avatar m tn 5 for about a year and a half, and about 4 months ago got off morphine sulfate 60mg ER. My pain since getting off of the morph has been on and off and at the end of last month my primary doc prescribed me the 50 mcg/hr fent since my pain had been getting worse and he wanted to try this because I'm about to leave for a masters program because without pain meds, I am basically non-functioning.
Avatar m tn using narcotics during detox is not a real good idea as it is not defined as a detox if u r taking them....it will prolong this even longer if u continue...what was ur original dose? and DOC?...u may have needed to taper down a bit if it was a high dose...if u detox and quit taking narcotics the amount u used daily and the DOC can help determine how long til u feel better plus age, nutrional status and other things....1 week for most...2 weeks for some til the physical symptoms are gone...
