Avatar n tn I've been taking Morphine Sulfate 15mg. slow release tablets for 2 weeks. The back pain I had is gone and I want to stop taking the Morphine. Is it safe to stop or do I have to wean off of it? I also have the quick release 15mg. of Morphine which I haven't had to use. Will I have some sore of reaction if I stop cold turkey?
Avatar n tn I am tapering off morphin and have gotten to a point where I really just want to stop the taper but I am scared of how bad the wd may be? I did stop vics ct 3 months ago also and that was a tough ct wd. Any advise or simalar stories would be greatly appreciated!! HELP!
699217 tn?1323438700 I believe that oxycodone is the generic name for Roxicodone, which is also obviously percocet without the tylenol. Oxycontin and oxycodone are the same thing, EXCEPT oxycodone is a quick release tablet, and oxycontin is a slow release of the same med. Hydrocodone is the ingredient in Vicodin and Lortab. Although they are all narcotics, vicodin and lortab are lesser strength than the oxy's and morphine.
Avatar f tn Hi meg, Oxycontin is just oxycodone in extended release form. It is no more powerful than immediate release oxycodone. And morphine is actually less powerful than oxycodone. Oxycodone is 1.5-2 times stronger than morphine. The shape of a pill and whether the pill is a tablet or capsule does not tell you if it is extended release or immediate release. Avinza is extended release morphine than comes in capsules versus tablets.

Avatar m tn What is MS Contin and what is MS/IR. They are both morphine? Does the Contin mean extended release and the IR mean immediate release. The MS/IR also has the letters IMN REO. I'm trying to find out if the MS/IR can be cut in half for tapering. Thanks to all that reply.
Avatar n tn A milligram of oxy is a mil of oxy no matter what - only formulary change is from immediate release to time release structure. What strength is a red rocket? Familiar with oxy;'s but not nicknames. And yes, tapering plans can work - you can even have someone on the forum structure one for you. And you can be guided through w/d's in most comfortable manner possible. But you gotta want to do it.
Avatar f tn the other 2 are potent long lasting meds/morphine...not as highkly abused as oxy or hydrocodone..but very addicting..the energy buzz or euphoria isnt there for many from these drugs orally so they are abused by IV use to get high....if u simply have to have something daily for pain then i would stay away from the oxy if u have a problem with hydro...talk to ur doctor...be safe and check out the pain forum..
Avatar m tn Don't know what you're working on. Time release is slow release. When I managed health food stores the saying about time release was, expensive urine or bowel movements, since the body evacuates before the stuff comes out of the capsule.
Avatar f tn Yes- there is extended release morphine- HOWEVER- you can not and should NEVER cut/bite/half extended release medications. They are meant to deliver a consistent level of medication over a specific time period. Cutting/biting/breaking them in half dumps the entire dose into your system at one and can result in exactly what you are experiencing - and accidental overdose/death.
Avatar n tn You don't need to "wean". Worst case you'll feel crummy for a few days and possibly get cramps and muscle pain.
Avatar f tn anyone have any problems with Avinza? (morphine sulfate extended release). My dr said that it had an antagonist that made it non addictive. He prescribed it to me alone with Norco (high dosage)- I stopped taking both, and it's been 6 weeks, but I'm still struggling.
Avatar m tn Hi there.. Kadian IS morhpine...It's just in extended release form. I'm confused on where you say you are 'ok with regimen now'...As in you are ok with the Kadian and you aren't having bad dreams? The morphine by IV that you get in the hospital after a surgery is much stronger than anything in pill form. Obviously medication can have side effects and yes...bad dreams can be one of them.
653169 tn?1303446369 t working as well and he changed my morphine controlled release 100mg every 8 hours to methadone 20mg every 8 hours. Does that make sense? Are the doses comparable? I told my doc I was really apprehensive to trying the methadone because I've heard horror stories of withdrawal When wanting to taper down or quite. He said Methadone is no more addicting than the morphine and could be better for my pain.
Avatar f tn I have this 10 mg methadone pills, the morphine 100 mg extended release(Its a capsule,so I can open it and measure approximately, and morphine 30 mg immediate release. I really hate the sweating of the abstinence,is there something that helps it?what other drug(benzos or else)can help me to stop? I have time, and I'm not running out of the meds, but really want to quit...help!!!
Avatar f tn time released drugs like MS contin in reality, if swallowed are easier to stop as they do not have the quick onset and quick downward curve hydros or percs have..oxycontin is also a time release drug/a form of percs//both being oxycodone....oxycontin is hard to stop for an addict as a rule cos they do not swallow it whole./they chew it or snort it..breaking the time release coating on the pill....an 80 mg oxycontin is no stronger than 80 mgs of percocet//both contain 80 mgs of oxycodone..
Avatar n tn at 16 went back on the pain meds because i just couldnt take the pain and tried to start with lower dosed ones like nucynta 100mg, ultram taking 250mg at a time then went back to the 10mg norco moved back up to the 10mg percs then they added the 30mg oxycontin back it was just a horrible cycle well last october i had a bad flair up and was scared because my doctors didnt really communicate with me they just throw scripts at me well i found a good doctor who put me on 30mg ms-contin 3 times a da
Avatar f tn I do not know if you are still in need of this info, but last year when i was 19 weeks pregnant i ended up with a kidney stone twice. Finally i was put on Morphine extended release 60mg twice a day and 15mg immediate release in between. I was on this for the last 3 months of my pregnancy. I was very concerned about what this would do to my baby, but my OB reassured me that he would be OK.
981443 tn?1250115802 It is approximately 6–8 times more potent than morphine, and is related to morphine in the same fashion that oxycodone is to codeine (being a derivative of thebaine). It differs from morphine in its effects in that it generates less euphoria, sedation, itching and other histamine effects. Depending on the individual patient, it can be either more or less nausea- and vomit-inducing than morphine.
Avatar m tn I have been taking 60 mg. extended release morphine twice daily for 3.5 months. I have had issues for 30 years with anxiety and depression but it flared up almost immediately after I began the morphine. Normally the anxiety resolves itself within a few weeks but this time it has persisted and continues on. Could it be caused by the morphine? This is my thought but the pharmacist said he didn't think it was. Also my doctor is suggesting 8 tylenol a day to replace the morphine.
Avatar f tn I have been on opiats daily since November 2008 and have been on Morphine CR and immediate release since the last surgery. I want off of them and need to know how to do it. I take the CR once in AM and once in PM and have weened myself down to only 3 of the immediate release per day. Where do I go from here?
Avatar f tn the doctor of my mom suggested to take 30mg of morphine sulfate once a day but we have only 10mg of it... is it okay to take it 3 10mg of morphine at the same time?
567677 tn?1246767776 I have had a real hard battle with this and hardly any relief time PM started me on Opana er and Opana quick release now changed to Morphine Sulfate at 30mg every 12hrs. I see him tomorrow about Morphine Sulfate quick release if there is such a thing he told me there was anyway.
Avatar f tn It was the Morphine! Since I had taken short-acting Morphine before but never the extended release that had caused the whole mess, the consensus was that it was a reaction to the extending agent. I have to get more blood work done this week before I can start a different controlled release med but they put me on extra of my normal short acting med to get me through. Besides some headaches and general anxiety, I'm doing okay.
Avatar n tn I had one at 34 weeks and i was on morphine bc of other complications and i felt it. Its uncomfortable but its very fast. I agree w the above poster please outweigh the benefits to the risks.
