Common Questions and Answers about Morphine nausea

Avatar f tn Morphine is one of the worst narcotics for nausea and vomiting. However, given time it will go away. Try taking about half the prescribed dose to see if the nausea recedes, and gradually add back to the prescribed dose. You may end up doing better with a synthetic opioid like oxycontin rather than morphine. However, morphine is much cheaper than any of the synthetics, so if you can gradually increase to an effective dose with the morphine, so much the better.

1052851 tn?1307741160 Morphine, personally, makes my migraine pain worse because it aggravates all of the nausea symptoms. Morphine tends to have a very high side-effect profile in terms of stomach upset and nausea... and, when it comes to migraines... well, you know how it is. But, for some people, this is not a problem and they do not react this way to morphine at all and can take morphine without feel nausea what so ever. Our chemical make ups are all different and we all have different reactions to medications..
Avatar n tn switching from percocet 30 mg a day to morphine sulphate er 15mg every 12.
1891806 tn?1391119037 Since nausea is a new symptom for me, how common is it and how many of you got rid of the nausea after decompression surgery? I am scheduled for my first (and hopefully only) decompression surgery on July 21st. I don't know how I will make it until then. I am getting so bad. Any help or advise?
Avatar m tn I pretty much thought it had something to do with the morphine. Any advice? He needs it for his back. My view is morphine is probably better than any other of the narcotic analgesics because it is the most natural and has been around for centuries. I certainly would not want him on oxycontin or fentanyl. Is Opana ER any better? Need advice from doctor preferably or someone who has an idea what they are talking about regarding this matter.
Avatar f tn I just found out my mom n sister r chewing morphine patches. I am really scared for them. Does anyone know what it does n how u act if u chew them they have been actin really diffrent lately is that why?
Avatar f tn Second - is this a short acting (SA) or is it a long acting (LA) Morphine? 60mgs of Morphine is one heck of a one time dose. I would not take it. There could be serious complications, especially if you your system is opiate naive. Don't take it.
Avatar m tn t do so well, so he gave me Phenergan. That helped with the nausea but the pain was still unbearable. So I received morphine, which is what now leads me to asking around here now. The morphine worked then but now I'm sitting here hoping it hadn't. It was my first time receiving morphine. It did it's job and I fell into a good 3-4 hour sleep since it was about 4am when I got it. I got home and slept for another few hours and since then I don't know whats happened to me.
Avatar f tn I've been on Morphine Sulphate ER 60mg 3xday for about 18 months for a chronic pain condition (RSD). Boy, do I wish I had never started it or that my doctor would have warned me how hard withdrawals could be. I had no idea. I gradually went from 1 every 8 hours to 1 every 9 to 1 every 10, etc until I'm now on 1 every 12, but it took 6 weeks to get this far. Now my dr. only gave me 90 30mgs and I've tried taking 3/day and am having horrible withdrawals...
Avatar m tn Talk to your Dr.. It sounds like your dosage needs adjusting, as well as possibly adding some phenergan (Promethazine) for the nausea. It works wonders. Do you absolutely NEED the morphine? You didn't really say why you were taking the morphine. Best of luck.
Avatar f tn After years of back issues, I had 5 surgeries in 19 months. All failed. Ended up on 150mg of morphine a day. Two weeks ago my doctor of 8 years told me there is nothing more he can do for me. Handed me a script for Percocet since I had not been on those for over 6 years and a referral to a pain clinic. Well I tried to wean myself from the morphine, and its not going so well. I filled the Percocet script but didn't take any while I was weaning. I am on hour 33 without morphine.

Avatar m tn I would appreciate some help in regard to morphine. A friend of mine is taking 5 a day (pills, 30mg each) over the last two years after a shoulder injury. She tried cold turkey, and it did not work. She is now considering tapering. I don't know if they are slow or fast release, but I can find out. The doctor tried to switch her to norcos but that didn't work. Any and all help would be appreciated.

Avatar n tn My brother is addicted to morphine. He is currently going through detox on his own. He can't hold down any food or much of any liquids. Is it possible to detox on your own without medications? Hospitalization is a possible option but is there a chance of being Baker Acted? CanI help him do this on his own?
Avatar f tn In my early 20s after my first c-section it was discovered that I am allergic to morphine atleast as it was delivered by the pump/drip after surgery. I got NO relief from the pain at all and after the nurse turned it up for the third time, my breathing started shutting down leaving me clinging to the edge of the bed desperate to get a deep breath in. Flash forward 13 years... I went through the experince of chemotherapy for non-hodgkins lymphoma.
Avatar m tn I have abdominal migrains( yep abdominal). It causes me great pain and nausea . Morphine and zofran wouldn't touch it. When they gave me dilaudid and zofran it broke the cycle and I could get better control of it. The vomiting stopped. My bp was fine. Is this common?
1069644 tn?1276928863 My doc said the Dilaudid I had in the hospital a few weeks ago is much stronger than the morphine and aside from the nausea and vomiting I was ok with that. Thanks again, I feel a bit more comfortable taking it. I'm suppose to take it at night and in the morning.
Avatar f tn What did they give you for nausea?
Avatar f tn Hi, I have had 3 major back surgeries with several complications. Before my last surgery I was seeing a regular doc for pain management, and whenever I complained of increased pain he would up the dose. Eventually I was taking 800mg of MScontin a day, and 12 oxycodones for breakthru pain.
