I am sorry to hear about your previous reaction to Morphine. Are you experiencing any reaction or similar side effects with the long acting Morphine (Kadian)? As Dmoonchild said Kadian IS Morphine. There are several brand names for MS (Morphine Sulfate)..... but in the end they are all basically the same or similar chemical structure.

I have had nausea and vomiting every day since I have been home. We split the Kadian to 30/30mg and I am still sick. I am hoping it is the Kadian that is making me sick. Even though I have taken it for a long time with no side effects I can't think what else it could be. I take antinausea meds every day for it. I want to stop taking 30mg and replace it with my oxycodone 10mg as needed. I do not go back to the clinic for 3 weeks and I am trying to get back on my feet.

Kadian is a morphine sulfate extended release pill. Morphine is an opiate, as is percocet and loritab. You shouldn't have a problem when you switch. Be careful you don't OD....Didn't your doctor give you some info. on switching drugs? Did he say taper or ???? Like I said, you are still taking an opiate. So, you will still remain physically dependent on the stuff. Chronic opiate use will actually make your pain worse over time.

Recently, Embeda was removed from the market and my doctor replaced it with Kadian. I do not find Kadian to be as helpful with my chronic back pain and it costs $40.00 per month even with Blue Cross help. Does anyone have any recommendations of what might be on the market that would be affordable and effective? Thanks.

Kadian is a Morphine derivative. If he starts acting strange, call 911. That is quite a high dose, I don't care how big he is. Don't take any chances, make the call if you suspect anything.

2 major back surgeries, and still in pain. Doctor gave me Kadian to help with pain. Does anyone know if I can quit taking percocet and loritab cold turkey while on kadian? Will I still go through withdrawl? Have begun tapering off...or so I am telling my husband. I want to quit the daily abuse and just take one pill. The kadian has eliminated a lot of the pain. I feel better, but want to stop with the other meds.

Kadian is just 50mg morphine in a extended release formulary....more people seem to get in the narc problems with the oxycontins........shouldnt be any w/d's going from one narc to another...............

SHE TOLD ME TO TAKE ONE IN THE MORNING AND ONE IN THE EVENING. SHE SAID THAT IT IS NOT VERY ADDICTIVE BUT ALOT OF PEOPLE THINK IT IS. SHE ALSO SAID I CAN TAKE, ON A BAD DAY, 1-2 PERKS. SHE SAID THAT PERKS ARE FAR MORE ADDICTIVE THAN MORPHINE.

I was wondering if anyone has weaned off of Kadian. I currently take 100mg of Kadian in the morning. I also have 30mg Morphine IR for breakthrough pain - have not been taking these much at all - maybe twice a week. I am just tired of taking the Kadian - too many side effects and I do not want to be on so many meds anymore - trying some different things now like vitamins (lots), exercise etc ...

I have been on Kadian for several years.It is an ER Morphine. It has been the best thing for me as far as how long it lasts. I only take it twice a day and I find that it works great. You might need breadthrough meds though if you get a flare up of pain. It has never made me sick to my stomach, but it does cause constipation so you will need to take a lot of fiber or some kind of supplement to combat that. It should not cause any adverse effects if you are already used to the Percocet.

My pain management doctor is weaning me off Kadian (time release morphin) and I am having severe anxiety? Is there anything I can do to help the anxiety until I am done weaning off Kadian?

no, hydrocodone is vicodin. Morphine sulfate is the active ingredient in morphine. If you are worried about a possible reaction to the medication, I would speak to your local pharmacists. I'm not sure if hydrocodone and morphine are in the same family of drugs. and after i took it, i realized that I took a 10mg morphine pill, that was in the wrong bottle. I have Never taken morphine before and I am scared. will I be okay, since I took the hydro at 5am.

Those damn time release morphine, mine was kadian. I think that the applesauce is a good idea. I know that you have the strength to do this, you have made it a long way! We are all here for you if you need to talk.

ve gotten yourself up to 480 mg a day and are now ingesting that many along with the Kadian (morphine sulfate er) you are SERIOUSLY living a death wish.! im in the same situation as u. im on kadian which is morphine 100mg once a day which i do not abuse. oxy im up to 480mg a day. 480mg daily. whenever i decide to quit oxy i start taking my kadian and i get no withdrawls whatsoever. unfortunataly its harder for us to quit cause we have meds that prevent wds. its the mindgames that i play withmyself that get me everytime. i know i dont have to physically withdrawl so its easy to keep quitting and starting again.

m diagnosed spondalitis, spinal stenosis and degenerative disc disease. I have went from oxycodone 5mg every 6 hr to now 20mg kadian am, 30 mg kadian pm. With an additional 20-5mg oxycodone tablets per month in case I need them. It has taken me 6 month to get this far, and I am still in constant pain. My Dr. Has referred me to a pain specialist, I see him this month. Any advise or even input on exactly what he does or the best way for me to deal with him.

The alcohol causes a rapid release of the morphine, and could be fatal. so if you drink at all, do not take any morphine sulfates that are extended release!
