Morphine in renal failure

Common Questions and Answers about Morphine in renal failure

Avatar f tn I have a nine year old lab "Sandy Grace". She is in fourth stage renal failure-Of course she has seen her regular vet for fluids-ultra sound revealed she has one kidney which is failing. Creatine was 13-subs at home-now using hollistic and homepatic treatment. Recently more bad days than good. I am giving her ice chips which seem to work better for her than lapping. Pedialyte ice is also better.
Avatar f tn My dog Blanca is in renal failue and has for several days. He is on morphine pain medication and does not want to leave. He also had a heart condition. Can anything be done at this point?
Avatar f tn The ABR cream takes a lil longer to "kick" in then the Lorazepam (Ativan) given by mouth. Have you checked about just some regular cough medication if he is able to swallow? Or some Mucinex to thin out the secretions some -again if he is able to swallow pills. To answer a few other questions heart failure and kidney failure go hand in hand. Its a viscous cycle. The meds to "help" the heart failure become toxic to the kidneys and thus renal failure develops.
Avatar n tn But she was in a nursing home, withthe nurses administering Percoset, then Morphine and Ativan in her last couple days. I don't know if Hospice is anti-med- it wouldn't make sense if they were, since in the last stretch it should be about being relieving symptoms, not suffering through them. I just realized this post is from August. If youcheck back and read this- how's it going? I hope the issues with Hospice and meds got resolved. Best of luck to you with everything.
82861 tn?1333457511 We took Mom to the ER Saturday night as she was in extreme back and leg pain. She couldn't even stand to go to the bathroom, feed herself or dress herself. The day before she was positively diagnosed with blood in her stool. We had to pull a whole lot of strings to get her admitted as nobody believed she was sick enough for admission. All hell broke loose when they got the intial blood work in. Mom's hemoglobin was a 6. Yes, a six. That's not a typo.
Avatar n tn I would like to hear more about yours what symptoms you had in the past. Also, did they tell you what might have caused your Epididymitis? I thank you in advance for your reply.
Avatar f tn When an opiate is introduced into the human body on a daily basis over time, a natural process occurs that results in dependence. No moral failure. No charater flaw. No work of satan. Just plain human physiology.
Avatar f tn NSAIDs should be avoided in those with both compensated and decompensated cirrhosis, primarily because of the risk of acute renal failure due to prostaglandin inhibition. Opiates should be avoided or used sparingly at low and infrequent doses because of the risk of precipitating hepatic encephalopathy. Patients with a history of encephalopathy or substance abuse should not take opioids.
Avatar n tn She has also been in the hospital for 2 weeks because of dehydration and renal failure. Her kidneys are now functioning and her blood sugar is fine. She had developed a sore on her buttocks. It is just below the tail bone. It has become type 3 and 4. It is draining and has a very foul smell. The physical therapist at the hospital said that she would need surgical intervention. She is in extreme pain and has to be medicated with morphine and other types of drugs.
599170 tn?1300977493 The worst story I have to tell is relatively recently when I had been in the hospital with renal failure. No one on the hospital staff paid any attention to me when I told them that I've been diagnosed with IBS over 20 years and I had reason to believe I had Celiac. I wanted them to pay attention to the fact that I'm gluten intolerant, which I told the staff all the time. The nephrologist didn't even pay attention to this for some reason.
Avatar f tn Aspirin, dextropropoxyphene, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and pethidine, should not be used in the presence of chronic renal failure due to the risk of significant toxicity. In the presence of hepatic impairment, most drugs are subject to significantly impaired clearance and increased oral bioavailability, but are poorly studied in the clinical setting. The agent least subject to alteration in this context is remifentanil; however the drugs' potency has other inherent dangers.
Avatar n tn I have a 23 year old daughter who was diagnosed as having "at least 1 cyst on her right kidney" five years ago. She recently had renal failure due to e coli (in January of this year). She had a ultra sound last week and they now say she has a cyst on her left kidney also. Is it common for a female so young to have these cysts?
Avatar f tn Severe liver damage and reduced renal function, leading to renal failure... that's about the long & the short of it. Doctor's will tell you that it's a "safe" drug with few side-effects and no addictive characteristics. WRONG. Stick around this board and read for a while...
2211406 tn?1340502886 s decided early on that my physical dependence meant I was an addict, and yet whenever I tried to enter into a rehab, I was denied not only because Medicaid wouldn't cover it, but because the rehab place didn't want to take me because I 'required pain control in the future' to function. In Feb. 2011, I suffered sudden massive renal failure and a pulmonary embolism. My puny 'we-think-we-know-everything' hospital here saw my symptoms and immediately diagnosed an intentional overdose.
Avatar f tn In addition, tramadol should not be combined with drugs such as morphine, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs), or anticonvulsants because it can precipitate serotonin syndrome.41 Doses may need to be reduced in patients with renal failure. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
1916673 tn?1420236870 8 mg/dL) Together with BUN and Creatinine, an abnormal phosphorus level is the primary diagnostic indicator of chronic kidney failure in dogs. Most (85%) of phosphorus is stored in bones, but a small amount circulates In blood as phosphate ion. The latter is crucial for nerve function and muscle contraction. A dog’s kidneys control the level of phosphorus circulating in the blood and prevent the level from rising too high.
Avatar m tn I am still fighting renal disease and heart failure, but I seem to be getting better, so that's positive. I am now on dialysis 3 days a week, but I'm healthy enough that I have very few constraints on diet and excercise. Also, instead of having 2 gallons of fluid removed each time, I only have to endure 2 liters of fluid, which is a huge improvement over a year ago. So keep on hoping and praying, I know it helps.
1084115 tn?1385232189 In patients with cirrhosis, NSAIDS (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) like aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen should be avoided to avert renal failure. and mucosal bleeding in patients at increased risk of bleeding as a result of thrombocytopenia and coagulopathy associated with advanced liver disease. Opiates should be avoided or used sparingly (as after invasive hospital procedures), with low and infrequent dosing by IV, to prevent encephalopathy.
6884095 tn?1385759497 I feel he was rude and had no right to deny me the right to make certain my Heart was okay and it was indeed Anxiety, b/c in my eyes I had never suffered anxiety so I could not believe that at 27 years old I all the sudden started having Anxiety but my husband is very ill and in Renal Failure and it could have become too much for my mental state, not sure.

518031 tn?1295578974 i have 4 hernaited disc, that make my legs and back ache like knives are in them especially my right side, plus on top of that i have renal failure which causes very and painful nueropthy, excuse my spelling...
Avatar n tn Methadone, a potent opioid agonist, has many characteristics that make it useful for the treatment of pain when continuous opioid analgesia is indicated. Although available for decades, its use has gained renewed interest due to its low cost and potential activity in neuropathic pain syndromes. Unlike morphine, methadone is a racemic mix; one stereoisomer acts as a NMDA receptor antagonist, the other is a mu-agonist opioid.
Avatar m tn I am currently a student full time online, I watch two of my grandchildren 5x a week, and my beloved Bull Terrier dog Ruby was in renal failure and died last week. So I was very stressed but this has been happening for most of my life. I am very scared because no one knows what the problem is. I feel like crap and am very weak. Help!
4705307 tn?1447973922 // ___________________________________________________________ Intentional and accidental overdoses of tramadol can cause respiratory arrest as well as acute liver failure, several fatal instances of which have been reported. In these cases, however, the liver injury may have been caused by shock, hypoxia or ischemia secondary to the respiratory arrest.
Avatar n tn Some 5 years ago, I was first diagbosed with emphysema. This was followed by renal failure caused by a blocked bladder (Although I'd been a heavy drinker, it was, surprisingly. not a factor. Since that time, I've lost count of the number of A&E visits and hospital admissions, almost invariably with breathing problems. With oxygen levls at around 95%, I've had to ignore strong medical advice and demand oxygen (at levels2-3) to relieve stress.
Avatar m tn The main histopathologic finding was vacuolization in tubular cells in morphine and tramadol groups. Our findings pointed out the risk of increased lipid peroxidation, hepatic and renal damage due to long term use of opioids, especially morphine. Although opioids are reported to be effective in pain management, their toxic effects should be kept in mind during chronic usage.

Avatar n tn Got Ultrasound done after 6days and results showed slight prominence in right renal pelvis and an 8mm non obstructing calculus in the right kidney. Doctor says wait for pain etc then will refer me to Urologist cos l am now pain free,he even said "Oh u may hve passed that stone" l'm thinking HOW lol and l wld have been in pain but all the pain l had previously l think l passed a different stone.
Avatar f tn Recently, I had SEVERE pain in my left flank and went to the ER. Had a CT scan done and it showed I had several stones in both kidneys. I was given morphine at the hospital and vicodin to take home. I saw a urologist and he told me that yes, there were several stones in my left kidney but they shouldn't be causing me that much pain because they were still in the kidney. Why do doctors tell you that what you have isn't painful when you KNOW and FEEL that the pain is REAL?
Avatar n tn In May 1995 I had a serious MVA(motorcycle), serious chest trauma, broken ribs, collapsed lung, separated left AC shoulder joint, renal failure for 24 hours, left quad damage, large hemotomas on the left side and unconsciencous for 17 hours. I returned to work as an educator the following September. Numerous health issues, elevated BP, chronic aches/pains, deminished mental function, interrupted sleep and general weakness. In Jan 2001, I suffered a 2.
