Avatar n tn Other meds include Coumadin, Lipitor, Coreg, Aspirin, 7.5mg Morphine and 20mg Cymbalta (for post herpetic neuralgia) - currently tapering off the morphine. She still has a 20% ejection rate, the same as when the pacer was placed. It seems that the significant breathing difficulty started after the latest hospitalization (I’m guessing that the fluid replacement contributed.) Are there any other surgical options available, or even meds? Would the use of an oxygen tank help?
Avatar f tn Forgot to mention my urine looks like raspberry tea. Looks like blood could be in it but Dr said in ER there was no blood in my urine. They didn't check for kidney infection. Now this is the 1st time my urine has gotten so dark. Called my OB office an asked to be checked for kidney infection. Going to pick up lab slip today. Anyone think it may kidneys?? I drink at least 64ozs of water a day.
Avatar n tn You want plain Tums that are only calcium - nothing extra. Calcium helps the body to get rid of phosphorus which is deadly to animals and people in kidney failure. It won't harm him to go ahead and start the calcium before you get a diagnosis, just make sure your vet knows so he can take that into consideration with any test results. Here is a link to my kidney failure "bible" : http://www.dogaware.com/kidney.
1531001 tn?1292034237 Yes, in our veterinary clinic, many dogs recover from canine kidney failure with an organic or home made diet made with high quality low residue proteins, B-Vitamins to boost red blood cell production and combat the anemia which is usually associated with canine kidney failure and aluminum hydroxide to bind and remove excess phosphorus. Should you want to follow up with me, that would be fine.
19579204 tn?1480364655 My husband had the electronic stimulator first. It broke twice in a month so we opted for the Medtronic pain pump. More and more it's having recalls, failures and complications. Pump failure, catheter failure, and pump stall in 14 months. Fewer doctors will take patients that have them. The expense and side effects are mounting. Dry mouth rotted his teeth. Low testosterone so we do injections.
Avatar m tn ( Do you know what her levels are? My 4 month old puppy is in kidney failure as well (just diagnosed a week ago), so I"ve been doing a lot of research. www.dogaware.com has a huge amount of info on kidney disease, diets & supplements, as well as the the link already mentioned above. Are you working with your vet as well? I'm still working on a good homemade diet for my TJ, but he's on a prescription food & meds right now.
Avatar f tn They can also cause kidney failure. Hepatorenal syndrome is a dreaded and frequently fatal complication of advanced liver disease. Please find a gastroenterologist to manage and if needed treat your hepatitis C. They will order a liver biopsy to determine how advanced your liver disease is.
Avatar f tn The throwing up became very bad so I took him to a different vet that after a urine test was able to establish Teddy was in 75% kidney failure. Some Medication was given but he has become increasing worse. Vet suggested an IV Solutuion but after researching it on the internet decided my little guy's quality of life and his always wanting to please is not fair to him. To prolong the inevitable for something that may not work is not fair to him or me.

Avatar f tn Also as he has heart failure and the point of his meds is to get rid of fluid but if he has kidney failure he needs lots of fluid ie the vets flushing his kidneys, can this be done on him with his heart problem? I have read a few things about kidney failure saying give low protein but others say give high quality protein so whats best please? Also have read give low phosphorus and give TUMS to him but is this ok? how do i know how much to give a tiny yorkie?
Avatar m tn Yes we have a special User Group (CHRONIC KIDNEY FAILURE IN DOGS) which, if you can find it through the MedHelp Search button, I would urge you to join it. But that aside, it's great that the IV Fluids seem to have perked your dog up a little, but the numbers are way too high. So some intensive diet changes are needed. Has the vet suggested SubQ Fluids, which you can do at home? If not, talk to them about it.
541196 tn?1293552936 Hi there, I am hoping someone can help me with tying some symptoms and tests together so I can talk to my dr. who is already overwhelmed by me. I have been having reoccuring kidney/flank pain that last a week or more. Dr. is never sure if it's a kidney infection or kidney stone or something else. Urine test shows presence of blood AND protien. Urine is cloudy off and on when pain is present and often when pain is not present as well. I am 31 years old. Female.
Avatar m tn Samantha is a nearly 18 years old bichon fries and was diagnosed with kidney failure on Oct 2. She has good days and bad days. Sam has been on daily IV fluids since Oct. She takes zantac, vitamins, cranberry, denamarin and anti phosphorous medicine twice daily. She has lost considerable weight and lately has become disinterested in food. You may find more useful information as so many have and do deal with these issues. Is she gating sny meds for nausea? Have you tried the chicken (no skin) and rice with maybe some carrot or zucchini added? Have you tried one of the dry or canned diets for kudney probkems? You might try some canned green tripe. Some pet stores sell that now.
Avatar f tn My 6 year 10 month Russian Blue male cat was diagnosed 2 weeks ago with kidney failure. His only symptons were a bout of vomiting and lethargy. His blood work was quite elevated, BUN 83mg/dl, CREA 5.1mg/dl, PHOS 8.8mg/dl. He has been given fluids twice and we have been giving him Azodyl capsules twice a day. Also sprinkling Epikatin on his food twice a day. We have been trying to transition him to renal diet with not a lot of success.
2215501 tn?1339492327 My 10 year old, Prince was diagnosed with kidney failure in February, the latest in a list of other medical problems. I have found some tips through these forums that have helped keep him stable since and was wondering about Pedialyte. Do you know if it would be beneficial? Thanks! 541196 tn?1293552936 I had many of the same symptoms as you and some of the same problems. In the end, I was finally diagnosed with an autoimmune kidney disease. Mine is called IgM Messangiopathy. There are many different types and so the name doesn't really matter. I agree that you should have a 24 hour urine test to determine the amount of protein in your urine. Then, I would see a nephrologist. By the way, has your thyroid level been off lately also? My problem makes my thyroid worse.
