237039 tn?1264258057 I have been given Morphine in the hospitals during my heart attacks, and most recently was given Morphine quite frequently. I was told last April, the reason they were giving me Morphine at short intervals is because it "oxygenates" the heart. As long as I had the chest pains they were administering the Morphine at 30 minute intervals. I protested the frequent use, but was told it was for that reason I was being given that much.
Avatar f tn How long should a patient stay on dobutamine? My husband 62 years old with chf and an effort of 10-15%. When last in hospital February 2017 where they put him on dobutamine and we decided on hospice care. Hospice is now hinting that they want to stop. I need to know if it is a money thing for them or it just isn't working.
471949 tn?1236904026 Those are signs that the heart is having a tough time doing its job and unable to circulate the fluid in your body in a proper manner. The extra fluid can be taxing on your lung and many other organs. The low level of Potassium affects the rate of conduction in the heart, affecting its function. I'm not knowledgeable enough to really make any prediction, but i really hope you can find a doctor that will do a thorough work up on you and get you on a right medical regiment.
Avatar f tn As a CHF patient, I of course weight daily. Was just recently put on Lasix in past week because of problems with fluid in lungs, and have been taking it religiously every day. My weight is the same, but I can't take as deep of a breath as yesterday, I'm slightly wheezing, and I can feel fluid come out of my throat with every little cough. This feels exactly how it felt when I was first diagnosed with CHF a month ago.
1648674 tn?1308696316 Yes, an autopsy would show fluids in the lung tissues. Also, the lung and heart have a normal size and weight, and an autopsy would weigh the organs and an over weight of the organ would indicate fluids in the lungs. Also, the left ventricle would have oversized heart walls, etc. Also, if necessary the heart vessels can be inspected for any plaque buildup and the advancement of the disease...
Avatar f tn He has gained quite a bit of weight just in a few months, which is very abnormal for him. He is in pain and has difficulty doing even the easiest task. He is huffing and puffing all the time. He went to Veterans Hosp yesterday. They say nothing is wrong. The scheduled a colonoscopy for June 3rd ... 3 months from now !!! I know he needs to go to the hospital. I told him that doing nothing is not going to help his situation. It will not get better by itself.
Avatar f tn t believe it would say right then and there a patient is in CHF. A patient with CHF has the symptoms of the disease and tests such as a BNP would diagnose that. People aren't in CHF 24/7 ; they have periods where they go into CHF; there are times when a patient who has been diagnosed with CHF may be doing well.
1132705 tn?1260482521 I am wondering if you think we will see more patients in the future getting filtration-type treatments for their CHF? As a Telemetry RN in an acute care facility, I see frequent admissions and then subsequent readmissions (over and over) for exacerbation of CHF. Our hospital has core measures that we follow on every CHF patient in order to ensure an Echo has been done within the past 6 mos and if warrented a Rx for an ACE inhibitor.
Avatar n tn She still coughs up crud a few times a day. Even before the chf she was having brief spasms in her shoulders and front legs about once a week. Over 4 years that progressed to now having spasms of her entire trunk about a hundred times day and losing control of her legs and dropping to the floor at least a dozen times a day. Lowering her head down to take a drink brings on both symptoms. Trying to fall asleep increases the body spasms.
Avatar f tn Have faith in your convictions. And WHY does it matter if she is addicted to morphine at this stage in her life?
Avatar m tn my daughter is 23 and has been in CHF for almost 4 years her lowest ef had been 32 and now it is 45 a very good indicator of CHF is a blood test called BNP, brain natriuretic peptide. This test is a very good indicator for CHF... check with your cardiologist what those levels were at the beginning and what they are now...
Avatar n tn An x-ray of the chest will also let us know if the heart is enlarged in size as it usually does in the case of CHF. Also a clinical examination by a cardiologist may help. I will also suggest a pulmonary function test as a disease of the lung like COPD can also present with the symptoms similar to CHF. I hope that helps. Please do keep me posted. Kind Regards.

Avatar f tn Simply put, CHF, by itself, is not a death sentence. However, uncontrolled symptoms can be. CHF basically means your heart isn't able to pump enough blood to remove the fluids from your body. I have had CHF for about 3 1/2 years, and the most dangerous symptom of all seems to be fluid retention. Mainly because the disease is notorious for filling the lungs with fluid, making it hard to breathe.
1127040 tn?1289718662 Hi, The patients who are suffering from CHF usually have much higher heart rate and this is primarily due to the activation of the adrenergic / sympathetic system which normally gets activated at the time of stress and the presence of CHF is a continuous stress for a person. This is the reason beta blockers are used in patients of mild CHF to take care of the increased heart rate. Beta blockers decrease the heart rate and tend to improve the performance of the heart. I sincerely hope that helps.
Avatar n tn no, hydrocodone is vicodin. Morphine sulfate is the active ingredient in morphine. If you are worried about a possible reaction to the medication, I would speak to your local pharmacists. I'm not sure if hydrocodone and morphine are in the same family of drugs. I know vicodin and percocet are in a similar family (due to codine), but morphine is much different. refer to this website. http://www.rxlist.com/duramorph-drug.
323615 tn?1226193396 Congested heart failure (CHF) often impairs sleeping as the lungs get congested when inclined resulting in severe coughing spells, and hyperventilation.
323615 tn?1226193396 The higher the level the worse the CHF. BNP levels can go higher, sometimes seen in 4000 range. Increasing BNP level would mean CHF worsening. Creatinine levels are important for checking for kidney dysfuntion. My mom had a BNP level of over 1000 for a few years and I believe hers went up to over 3000 range. She had CHF for 12 years and passed away last September at the age of 70.
Avatar f tn The other method is by reducing the after load which is done by medications which cause dilation of the arteries and thus the heart has to work against less narrowed vessels (which is common in CHF) and thus improving the efficiency of the heart. In this, the ace-inhibitors play an important role. There’s a third class of drugs which help by improving the contractility of the heart and that is digoxin.
Avatar f tn I am a 54-year old, overweight woman, with the following symptoms: severe edema in feet/ankles/calves (sudden onset three weeks ago), constant (and loud!), breathlessness from even mild exertion, ear ringing, blurry vision, dizziness, wheezing (high-pitched, whistling sounds) and headache. I've also been told I am pre-diabetic The edema becomes so bad it's hard to walk. Should I worry about the possibility of CHF?
