Avatar f tn Hi Christie, Welcome to the Pain Management Forum. I am glad that you found us but sorry to hear about your mothers chronic back pain. You did not indicate if your Mom is elderly and you are caring for her or if she is independant and not a senior citizen. Also who is this nurse? Is she a friend of yours or is she routinely involved in your mother's care? In other words does he know your mother well?
647120 tn?1256601651 Your doctor must have her own reasons for the choices she has given you but in my opinion a PM would be much more apt to prescibe hydrocodone or something in that class minus all the tylenol. the issue she has with the hydro may be the tylenol content. talk to her and really make yourself clear that you need pain control but consider morphine overkill but the ultram wasn't enough. There are plenty of choices in between the two.
Avatar n tn I am going to the Dr who implanted it, to see what my next option is after alot of research it seems i am in line for a pain pump.
Avatar n tn Hi Dylan, glad to hear you're pain is under control for you. You said you have been on mscontin for 4 years....have you been on the original dose all these 4 yrs or has the dose needed to be increased occasionally to control you're pain? I too have a huge fear of drugs, but from all I've been reading if they are used responsibly there shouldn't be an abuse problem.
Avatar m tn s care but my dog is having bladder stones and he is very much unconfortable all night I have to take him downstairs to pee and all the vet has told me is to wait for the results of urine test to beggin treatment meanwhile he gave him Rimadyl for the Hip pain and also some Phenobarbitol for anxiety, but he still cries all the time, I am desperate !
Avatar f tn I've never heard of them giving it to you for pain instead of an epidural, but for recovery yes they give it to you n you're completely out of it.
Avatar m tn I have become physically dependent on MS Contin which is the same type of med as oxycontin only Morphine is the narcotic instead of oxcycondone. I was prescribed this as a pain control medication for 2 years at which time they diagnosed my condition which required surgery. After surgery I now feel I don't need this strong pain med any longer and my other pain can be handled by a weaker pain med like percocet.
647120 tn?1256601651 Hello again Busygrl, Yes for most ppl the meth and morphine both help with sleep for two reasons. One it eases your pain allowing you to rest better. And two they have a sedative effect. You have to be v-e-r-y careful when taking a muscle relaxant with Methadone, Morphine or any other major opiate. Indeed I would not take them together. I know there are ppl that do. My physician says if I take one of the "Big Digs" I cannot take my muscle relaxant with it.
Avatar f tn This was about 1 1/2 years ago, neuro stimulator placed doing well with pain control using ibuprofen and Tylenol #4. However according to PM Dr. last 3 dit have shown increased amounts of hydrocodone. I take ibuprofen, Tylenol #4, Prozac, diazyde, devastating, multivitamin, exception, and a topical compound which is formulated under Dr. order. I do not take hydrocodone. I am allergic to hydrocodone. I am at my wits end, what would cause this false positive.
Avatar n tn at some point he was pulling at the central line iv in his neck, which came out, and was given morphine for pain meds. after some time he was given methadone to come off the morphine. he came home from the hosp on feb 19th and had been off the methadone about a couple days. he has crying episodes and seems in pain. his mom called the nurses who told her he could be having withdrawal. no one told us about any of this when he was discharged.
Avatar f tn I am not on the side with the insurance dr. The only thing that I agreed with the insurance dr. about was that the methadone would lower your blood pressure as all opioids lower blood pressure to some extent. What I don't agree with the insurance dr. about is his desire to push you to methadone because of the risk of QT interval prolongation that I discussed earlier and you confirmed that was indeed the concern that your regular dr.
654183 tn?1225309036 s and percs were for breakthrough pain but they were really for me to get high off the springboard of morphine. And how I got! I tried to melt the extended release, but I don't use needles and snorting it doesn't get a person off. The only thing with the suboxone is that he is still self-prescribing his therapy. Maybe he really wants it to change and just made an independent decision. I hope for you that this is so. My tip to you: leave him alone.........
653169 tn?1303446369 I still don't like the methadone. I'm just really tired and feel icky and still in pain. I don't think I want to give the methadone a full 2 weeks and then stop and risk withdrawals for something that isn't helping the pain. Only the oxycodone for breakthrough is helping the pain, but I'm gonna run out too soon cuz the methadones isn't working at all. He wanted me to give it the two weeks but I just don't feel good about that.
19414074 tn?1477273491 I take Morphine 30mg-2 x day and Percocet 10/325mg-4 x day. My pain clinic does a urine drug screen monthly and mails it off. For the last 2 months my Morphine has not showed up at all. Why would this be happening? I have to find out something before my next visit in 3 weeks or my doctor is going to drop me!
4760166 tn?1398357313 Most of us have probably been treated like junkies in ER rooms ... and it is insulting and my GP mentioned genetic testing for how I metabolize drugs. Morphine, for instance, doesn't work for me. and a few other things ... plus I seem to build up tolerances quickly and have always experienced poor pain control after procedures. I would like to blame the hospital I'm chained to because of my surgeons, but maybe it is me. Time will tell!
Avatar n tn hi thanks for getting back to me - hes on morphine for extreme pain throughout his body but mainly his back and legs - he's on 110mg twice a day with liquid morphine viles in between to keep him going - however, the morphine seemed to make his symptoms worse and he has turned into someone i dont even know - he wont allow me to contact him so i feel useless and obviously very hurt and worried about him.
1052851 tn?1307741160 My neurologist told me that opiates in general do not work for migraine pain for many people. But, some opiates do work for my migraine pain. I have never been given demerol before though. Morphine, personally, makes my migraine pain worse because it aggravates all of the nausea symptoms. Morphine tends to have a very high side-effect profile in terms of stomach upset and nausea... and, when it comes to migraines... well, you know how it is.
Avatar f tn I have degenerative joint disease/disk disease and the pain pump was an option along with the spinal cord stimulator but these were/are a last resort for me as I have been on many drugs to control the pain. Morphine has many side effects and maybe your doctor is seeing some side effects which could be 'an answer' that is not being mentioned here. I know the opioid's did not work for my pain. Nerve blocks helped but remember the nerve does grown back over time.
Avatar f tn I am under the care of a pain management doctor for a major back injury and surgery in 2012 that left me with multiple ruptured discs, moderate to severe neuropathy in both legs, arachnoiditis and general severe back pain. I have been on methadone for 3 years with no change in dose (30 mgr 2x per day). I have no history of drug abuse. Last Monday without any warning, my insurance rejected my monthly methadone prescription.
Avatar f tn When the problem does not resolve despite adequate IT morphine dose adjustments, then the IT trial has to be abandoned including all prospects of permanent IT pump implantation Studies show that drug pumps (intrathecal drug delivery systems) may increase pain relief and comfort for people with severe chronic pain.1-5 Talk with your doctor about the benefits, risks, and responsibilities involved with using a drug pump for chronic pain.
Avatar f tn hi folks have a some questions about changing pain meds. My mother who has cronic back and shoulder pain is being taken off of fentanyl 100mcg patch and 7.5/500mg and being put on morphine 60mg 2x daily and then morphine sulfate 15mg every 4 hours for breakthough pain. What I'm wondering is there going to be withdrawl or is the morphine going to have enough of the same stuff in it. If not what kind of withdrawl systems will there be to watch for.
Avatar m tn those that are on Morphine do you get headaches and problems with temperture control I have 5 herniated dics recently broke 3 bones and have severe rhem arthritis pain control is something I have had to deal with for over 20 years I have tried to live without pain meds and have been unable to the pain gets so bad I cannot function. With the meds I can function have a life etc.
Avatar m tn Hi, thanks for that she has been referred for pain management but that almost seems like admitting defeat especially when they have already tried morphine and it has no effect.
631581 tn?1224844661 Since it was considerably less expensive than oxycontin I agreed to try it, and as it was as effective for pain control as oxycontin was I have continued with methadone for about 5 years now, with vicodin es for breakthrough pain. I take 20mg x 3 per day Basically I have sufficient pain control to function at about an 80% normal ability. Several months ago I was diagnosed as having seriously depleted calcium.
Avatar f tn The problem lies with being on it for addiction AND pain control. Methadone maintenance for addiction is used with the intentions of eventually, and gradually weaning you off of it someday. Methadone for pain control is used without the need to "taper off" of it someday. I don't think it's an opiate blocker at all, as I take it when my body gets used to used taking either oxycontin, morphine, or fentanyl (my tolerance to the drug increases).
Avatar m tn t know what your physical problem is but my sister in law had a morphine pump for chronic neuropathy pain and it helped for a while but started leaking spinal fluid after about a year. The morphine as you use it more causes more pain, so it isn't ideal not that anything is.
