237039 tn?1264258057 I have been given Morphine in the hospitals during my heart attacks, and most recently was given Morphine quite frequently. I was told last April, the reason they were giving me Morphine at short intervals is because it "oxygenates" the heart. As long as I had the chest pains they were administering the Morphine at 30 minute intervals. I protested the frequent use, but was told it was for that reason I was being given that much.
Avatar f tn As i understand it the morphine is the less destructive on the liver than the other drugs for pain.Anyway it has helped me a great deal.Just a suggestion.
Avatar f tn Have heart disease in the family, my dad very early, he has since died. I have had heart palpitations for years, since mt 20's, and they know I have mitralve valve prolapse, but that is so common. It doesn't seem to concern the insurance dr. My input sheet listed my blood pressure meds, and he did say methadone would bring my blood pressure down, but didn't even talk about the fact I am on meds NOW.
Avatar f tn My mom was just diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver this past Thursday she also has Hep C! While in the ER they have her 4 doses of morphine. As of today she does nothing but sleep and can't seem to stay awake. I asked her if she had eatin anything today and she said she didn't know. She is just really out of it and acting weird. Just wondering if she could still be having side effects from the morphine. I'm just scared and worried!
Avatar n tn Signs include slurred speech and difficulty in balance. Is this common for cancer patients or something more. She is taking morphine for the pain, but they seem to think it isn't that. She didn't take any the last couple of days, yet the symptoms are still there. I know that every person is different when it comes to cancer, but what should we expect in the comming weeks as the chemo has stopped. Could she feasibly live for another few months in the amount of pain she's in?
Avatar m tn My wife, who takes morphine sulfate ER and oxycodone IR for chronic pain. She does a urine test every month. For the first time in several years, 10+, her results showed a positive result for codeine, 107 ng/mL. I found an article that said a small amount of codeine may show up in patients taking high doses of morphine due to possible impurities in manufacturing. Is this correct? Has anyone else run in to this??
Avatar n tn so guys should i ask my doctor to do a blood test for morphine to see if it metabolized from vicoden to morphine?
Avatar f tn Drugs should not be used, sometimes morphine is used in cancer patients with severe pain to relieve the pain, which is given on the basis of a prescription. Drug dependence, tolerance and gross nervous system side effects are the common reasons why drugs are not used. Take care!
Avatar f tn People that have been on opiates for a long time can ingest a dose that would kill someone who has never used the drug. Then if they stop for a while, their tolerance goes down. Morphine is a terrible trip, with nausea and discomfort and constipation. Not something to desire for recreation.
Avatar n tn Recently, the itching was considered (postulated) to be due to accumulation of an endorphin, a natural substance that attaches (binds) to the natural receptors (acceptors) for morphine in nerves. You see, nerves in the skin carry the sensation of itching. Indeed, the finding that itching improved in some people treated with drugs that block the binding of morphine or endorphins to nerves supported this consideration.
Avatar f tn Morphine must be okay for the liver because that's what they used when I was in the ICU following my liver transplant. Be VERY careful with morphine. I was on it for 7 days and went wacky with hallucinations of all kinds.
Avatar n tn Other meds include Coumadin, Lipitor, Coreg, Aspirin, 7.5mg Morphine and 20mg Cymbalta (for post herpetic neuralgia) - currently tapering off the morphine. She still has a 20% ejection rate, the same as when the pacer was placed. It seems that the significant breathing difficulty started after the latest hospitalization (I’m guessing that the fluid replacement contributed.) Are there any other surgical options available, or even meds? Would the use of an oxygen tank help?
Avatar m tn I pretty much thought it had something to do with the morphine. Any advice? He needs it for his back. My view is morphine is probably better than any other of the narcotic analgesics because it is the most natural and has been around for centuries. I certainly would not want him on oxycontin or fentanyl. Is Opana ER any better? Need advice from doctor preferably or someone who has an idea what they are talking about regarding this matter.
Avatar n tn I am going to the Dr who implanted it, to see what my next option is after alot of research it seems i am in line for a pain pump.
Avatar m tn 1. Will these drugs make her heart better and consequently cause the VSD to heal? 2. If not, are there any non-surgical treatments? 3. If she does get surgery, how long will she live?
Avatar f tn I cannot say whether a morphine pill or patch works better, and I really do not think morphine is an option for you...there are many other medications that would be tried after vicodin, and before morphine when looking at the strength of the medications. I also have to caution you to be careful with cutting any pills in half...make sure that you actually CAN cut the pill in half before you do it...because many pills are not able to be cut, like extended release forms of medications.
Avatar n tn Does anyone out there know of a health facility that accepts mass health to an individual who is in great need of the morphine pump? We have gone to pain Management for many years and have had tried the stimulator but his body rejected it. Also, has had multiple fusions and scar tissue removal, steroids, spinal blocks, acupuncture, narcotics, holistic healing. In the end our Neurosurgeon suggested the morphine implant.
424839 tn?1268186246 IT morphine 1 mg per day is equivalent to oral morphine 75 mg per day. Most patients require between 1 mg and 4 mg per 24 hours intrathecally to achieve reasonable comfort. This is equivalent to between 75 - 300 mg oral morphine per day. Even with this "Rolls Royce" technique, 100% pain relief is not attainable nor expected. Co-medication with paracetamol, NSAIDs, amitriptyline and gabapentin may still be necessary.
Avatar f tn Hi, welcome to the forum, your history is suggestive of that you are having drug allergy to morphine. Some patients have reported to have itching (in more than 10%), rash and development of hives. The possibilities for allergy are due to presence of Phenanthrene in opioids. You can even develop hypersensitivity reactions to other phenanthrene derivative opioid agonists (codeine, hydrocodone, hydromorphone, levorphanol, oxycodone, oxymorphone).
Avatar m tn Apart from mention about moderate consumption of alcohol as stimulant for the heart,I am yet to find someone who is practising it with success. As for me I am an Anterior wall MI patient since last October.Following the heart attack I am also on medications. My EF was just 26% at the time of discharge from the hospital. It is time someone here enlightening us on the notion of alcohol and its benefit on heart disease.
Avatar f tn hydromorphone was detected in patients treated with high-dose morphine. The ratio of hydromorphone to morphine ranged from 0.2 to 2.2%. Oxymorphone was not detected in any specimen from high-dose morphine or high-dose hydromorphone patients. The authors conclude, based on these data, that oxymorphone is not a metabolite of morphine or hydromorphone. I wish I had better answers for you. I am not super knowledgeable in Chemistry. This was not imperative some years ago - so I am learning.
Avatar n tn I need to find a morphine detox place that takes chronic back pain patients who want to go through detox in order for their physicians to start all over with pain management evaluation. This patient has been so medicated for the past 7 years that we would like to start all over from scratch again. He needs to be medication-free for 8 weeks after the detoxification process, so I'm looking for a place that won't boot him out as soon as he's cleaned up.
Avatar m tn Just think as compared to all other surgeries and if that was the percentage for Heart Patients just how many people would not be here. I wish you the best and Good Luck.
