237039 tn?1264258057 Now I am reading articles that say that patients that are given Morphine during a heart attack actually have a higher risk of death. I know in my case, that as soon as the Morphine was injected through my IV I felt chest pressure. Any thoughts on this? Should I refuse this if it comes up again?

Avatar f tn I was told by my pain specialist the only two "safe" things I can take while pregnant for pain were Tylenol, or Morphine. You're in good hands at the hospital.
Avatar f tn and otherwise good general health, started with chest pains upon exercise and was ordered to take a stress test in which I failed due to my ventricle not getting enough blood flow. I was immediately ordered for a heart caterization which found no blockages. I had never undergone anesthesia prior to that procedure and had trouble coming out of it.
Avatar m tn However, when they inserted the breathing tube they went too far and punctured a hole in her lung, causing the outer sac to inflate with air, which put so much pressure on her heart that it caused a heart attack. While she was down with the heart attack, not breathing, etc. she also suffered a major stroke. It took her about 6 months to wake up, she was always on life support, and when she did wake up, she was no longer the same person. She now is like a young child.
159063 tn?1247272817 ok so here is the scoop, hoping someone can give me some insight, I woke up at 1130 PM with severe and I mean severe pain right underneath my left breast near the rib cage, thought wow massive gas pains, I got up, went to the BR got a drink, and burped a few times, the pain intensified, to make a long story short this went on for about 2 hours, I was to the point of sweating profusely, left arm felt weak, and the pain was radiating to the back, now I am a nurse, and my first thought was oh my d
Avatar n tn I just turned 30 years old last week, a month ago I had a moderate heart attack which the Emergency room doctors think was caused by a blood clot. I went to the hospital because I was dizzy, short of breath and chest discomfort. At the ER they told me I was having a heart attack, and treated me with baby aspirins, tryglicerides, morphine and plavix.
Avatar m tn He said I tested positive for morphine and negative for xanax. I take 1-2 ,25mg xanax a day-prescribed by him for anxiety. He referred me to pain management and that Dr prescribed me 15 mg Amrix and 50 mg Nucynta ER a day. He said the morphine is not from the Nucynta and that I must not be taking the Xanax or Nucynta that neither one of them showed up. I am not taking Morphine of any kind. I took a Xanax and a Nucynta 3 hours before this appointment.
Avatar f tn Oh, dear. This signals a stroke or heart attack. Whomever is having these symptoms MUST go straight to the ER, and if they cannot transport themselves, call 9-1-1. That numbness on one side and nausea is a sure-fire sign of stroke, and it must be treated within a certain period of time to prevent damage from becoming permanent or disabling.
Avatar n tn The doctors told him initially that it was due to the heart problem, his arteries are diseased and need a surgery ASAP before a real heart attack occurs. Currently he has a thing going up his leg to keep the artery near the heart open. They have been unable to do the the heart surgery, because of high blood count and pain in his stomach. The pain has been consistently between 6 and 7 (10 being the worst), without morphine he has pain when breathing, moving, eating and/or drinking.
Avatar f tn s probably uncomfortable because he also developed pneumonia while at the hospital. And he has fluid around his lungs from the heart attack/congestive heart failure. They sedated him so much after the incident that his blood pressure dropped to 74/45. And now they brought it back up to 90/60.
Avatar f tn The pain is simular to a heart attack and if you have an attack bad enough hurts worse than child birth. Ask your doctor to do an ultrasound to check for gallstones. You do not want to have an attack trust me. A diet is a small sacrafice if you knew the pain.
Avatar m tn I have many medical issues that started at 16. I feel like I'm in the matrix the red pill or the blue pill. if I had known at 16 my life would consist of 37 medications in five shots a day I would've found a different path. My problem is someone stole my medicine I haven't had The morphine or the Percocet for a week and I am going through withdrawal. I have never gone through this before. My doctor cannot refill because of my insurance. But I have 12 days before I can have a refill.
Avatar f tn Have heart disease in the family, my dad very early, he has since died. I have had heart palpitations for years, since mt 20's, and they know I have mitralve valve prolapse, but that is so common. It doesn't seem to concern the insurance dr. My input sheet listed my blood pressure meds, and he did say methadone would bring my blood pressure down, but didn't even talk about the fact I am on meds NOW.
897990 tn?1248268956 I am becoming very worried about him having a heart attack or something considering the blood pressure. Can you please give me some info on what might happen if he continues this way and also on anything I could do to try to help him. He does not really want to listen to anything we have to say but I can't just give up on him.
Avatar f tn The doctors was saying he had dementia. We took him home and it took about 3 days for the affects of the morphine to wear off. And for about two years he didn't hallucinate, he just had short term memory loss. Then four weeks ago he fell. He broke his shoulder blade and a rib at home. We took him to the hospital and they gave him morphine and the hallucinations were back. I swore that the morphine was making him hallucinate but the doctors said it was dementia.
Avatar f tn So much pain that I ended up in ER/CCU having a heart attack! The pain stressed my heart that much! (No heart damage done, but sure was a wake up call!) I would recommend discussing and proceedures/shots with your doctor, and making sure he/she is very up to date on FMS/CFS and what causes flares. In my case, my doc really isn't familiar with my conditions at all! Oh, and to top off all the stress?
Avatar f tn I started with lorcete and worked my way up to 180 mg of morphine daily, plus 6-8 10/650 hydros. every day for the last five years. I never took more than I was perscribed. that doesn't mean im not addicted cause i am. but i had no idea how bad. Now my dr. is retireing and says come pick up your records. I thought well maybe I can wein myself off while i have meds. first i cut the morphine dosage in half for a week. that sucked. then I quit the morphine all together 7 days ago. wow!
Avatar m tn I was shocked because ive gone to the hospital before for my heart and all they gave me was a motrin for chest pain. Morphine??? And then they send you home with countless numbers of prescriptions. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't having a heart attack! Some people really need pain medications and I think they are good for people who have had terrible surgeries like yourself... but to give out these meds for people with minor injuries? I am sorry that your doctor is being that way...
Avatar n tn s due to lack of potassium, because that is what a doctor told her when her mother-in-law was dying and twitching. After a heart attack, his oxygen reads 95 on finger monitor. I happen to be out of town this week, and it is hard not being there. I have been there for the past 400 days during other spells. Thanks!
382218 tn?1341181487 Hi DB, I have been on a Duragesic patch for pain that is a morphine product. It is the only relief I have found for the pain. It made me very sleepy when I first began using it, but now it does not. I do get relief from it, however. The combination of the patch and Neurontin have helped immensely for the nerve pain I have n both legs. I hope this helps.
Avatar n tn Other meds include Coumadin, Lipitor, Coreg, Aspirin, 7.5mg Morphine and 20mg Cymbalta (for post herpetic neuralgia) - currently tapering off the morphine. She still has a 20% ejection rate, the same as when the pacer was placed. It seems that the significant breathing difficulty started after the latest hospitalization (I’m guessing that the fluid replacement contributed.) Are there any other surgical options available, or even meds? Would the use of an oxygen tank help?
Avatar n tn said all it was was bronchitis and gave me antibiotics and morphine for pain. After taking the antibiotics for a week, the same issue..and it is now about a month later. I was going to take a stress test, but it cost $500 so can't afford that right now, but I just scheduled another checkup with another doctor because someone has got to help me figure this out. It is not in my mind only.
Avatar f tn Hi French, Welcome to the Pain Management Forum. I am so sorry to hear about your very painful symptoms. My heart goes out to you. I also know the frustrations that come with an elusive diagnosis. The waiting and wondering can be discouraging and trying to say the least. I agree that the Mayo Clinic may be a good resource for you. Jennifer has a good suggestion, Chondritis is inflammation of cartilage. It can take several forms such as osteochondritis and costochondritis.
