659218 tn?1225496912 So my pain management doc wants to do a trial morphine pump bc nothing else is really working. Nothing, I have tried just about everything.....fentynal patch, etc. I am currently on Lortab, Soma, xanex, neurotin and ambeim cr 12.5, yes, the pain is 24/7 so I am asking for adcice on the pump! Plzzzzzzzzz all who are on it plzzzzzzz advise! Thank you so much. PS. I am sick of all the pills!
Avatar n tn That depends on your doctors comfort levels in prescribing , a patients ability to tolerate side effects, other medical conditions, effectiveness of using opiates, but typically- most physicians will not prescribe over 90 to 100 MME mg dosing per day-(Morphine equivalent dosing per day)- and typically only for patients who have been on opiates for some time. MME dosing combines both long acting and immediate release types of opiates to reach 90-100mg MME daily.
Avatar m tn Oral 24-hour Morphine (mg/day) Fentanyl Patch (mcg/hr) 225 to 314 mg/day 75 mcg/hr However, this is just a calculation based on the limited medical information I was presented. Since I do not have your liver and kidney status, it will be difficult for me to recommend the exact dosing regimen. Please consult your provider using this as a guideline. 2. If you are on Opana ER 30mg, why are you still taking Dilaudid?
Avatar f tn You use it to convert your fentanyl dosage to an equivalent morphine dose, and then find the equivalent morphine dose to oxymorphone, Generally when converting between opiates, doctors will reduce the new medication strength by a certain percentage to account for incomplete cross tolerance, which is a boost in analgesia you get from rotating from one kind of opiate to another. You can find equal analgesic tables, and apps for calculating equivalent dosing online.
1069644 tn?1276928863 Doc put me on 15 mg Morphine Sulphate CR, I am hoping someone here has taken it and can tell me what I can expect. I am a bit frightened to take such a heavy duty pain med. Will I get dizzy, extremely tired, will I still be able to function? Any help is appreciated.
Avatar m tn hey dude...the only way to do this is to go completely off everything...it won't be easy...but it is doable. you are surrounded by folks doing the same thing and doing it successfully. Just keep posting...and keep clean...it will get better...
Avatar n tn Hi yes it is normal behavior for Morphine, when you first start it your on top of the world then comes irritation and depression and even nightmares for some. How much is he on? How long? and dose he want to quit?
Avatar m tn I have been taking Morphine sulfate for several years. In the past year, I have had to increase my dosage and now take 30 mgs IR 4 times a day and 30 mgs CR at night. I know my body is "dependent" on this medication, but I am not an abuser. I always follow the prescription and most times take less than prescribed. 2 days ago, I started experiencing severe withdrawal symptoms. My doctor authorized me to take up to 6 IR a day if needed.
1569985 tn?1328247482 I have been back on 150 mg. of Norpace CR every 12 hours for one week since my recent episode of Afib. I missed my second dose today -- should have been at 5 p.m. -- I realized it at 10 p.m. and took it then. My question: should I just go ahead and wait 12 hours since the 10 p.m. dose or go back to my regular dosing at 5 a.m. which would only be 7 hours between doses? (I've been staying on a 5:30 - 6:30 dosing time in the morning.
Avatar n tn Hi~I'm not sure...but is he talking about morphine while post op in the hospital? Or at home? Usually,MS isn't given to go home with after surgery when there are so many other drugs for pain...MS is pretty strong stuff. You should ask him to clear this up and maybe you could take 5mg hydros for post op pain only as needed.
Avatar n tn does anyone think that ambien cr will help with sleep while going through withdrawls???
4184816 tn?1350780940 I recently went to see a Pain Management doctor who has now put me on 15mg Morphine. I feel absolutely nothing from the morphine, absolutely nothing as if I am taking a placebo pill! I am afraid to call the doctors office to complain or even mention that to him. Does anyone know how to approach my doctor without sounding as if I'm pill surfing? I have RA, optical migraines, and much more going on to merit morphine, but when I don't even feel relief I am at lost. Can anyone help?
Avatar n tn Thank you both for answering my concerns. I actually had an appt this morning with my Primary Dr. and she has put me on 30mg of Morphine Sulfate CR. 2x's/Daily and Gabapentin 300mg, which i work up from 1 in evening to 3 per day and use the Oxy for break-thru pain when needed.

Avatar f tn Anyone have any experience with having a baby after using morphine cr? I only use one 30mg pill every 24 hours. I have multiple bone fractures from race injuries and without morphine, Im in intolerable pain with extremely high blood pressure. when on the med, I have moderate pain and great blood pressure. I just want to know any experiences of women who have had a baby while on the morphine. I want to know good or bad. birth defects or none and withdrawal or not. .
Avatar f tn fibromyalgia but I am going to have back surgery for stenosis and want to stop my narcotic meds. I have morphine cr 45mg 3x/day which I asked to change due to side effects. Dr put me on Oxycodone 20mg 4x/day. After my back surgery recuperation I want to stop the meds. Which one should I be on for an easier withdrawal. I am scared because I have been on this for ages. When I have the surgery I can ask the dr to use the med that would be easier for me to withdraw so what do you think.
Avatar f tn Although methadone and fentanyl are also heavily protein bound and as such require reduced dosing in patients with cirrhosis, the metabolism of these agents does not yield toxic metabolites, and hence they, along with hydromorphone, may be better tolerated37,38 (Table 2)." ".....Hydromorphone and fentanyl appear to be the least affected by renal dysfunction, and fentanyl has less hemodynamic disturbance (due to lack of histamine release associated with other opioids).
614471 tn?1221179194 You are still within (although at strong pain requirements) the dosing range of morphine.....taper the morphine at 20mg per week for a couple weeks.....then do the same at 15mg .......decrease so you do not have strong abdominal cramps......dont go so fast that the w/d's become a problem.................
740917 tn?1268247536 Diane I am on 60 mg. Morphine Sulfate CR. twice a day. This a time release pill which last for 12 hrs. I have been on some kind of Morphine for 8 yrs. I was on a time release morphine capsule for several years ( name slips me now) it was excellent. One capsule every 12 hrs. Ask your Dr. about it .
Avatar f tn Thank you all! I have tried Fentanyl maybe 5 yrs. ago...it didn't seem to work...could have been too modest a dosage by the physician...I mean, how do you know...but I think spitfire was the best answer...I've been on methadone/morphine mix, the latter for breakthrough pain, so because of pain seeming worse, the doc incr. methadone by 20mg/day, and I start feeling just like spitfire described opana...don't need that, although doc offered it.
570405 tn?1216957944 Morphine is not as strong as oxycontin but depending on dosage they may be giving her something equal to a dose of a stronger medicine, admittedly I dont know much about morphine dosing. Maybe they will be willing to make a switch. I have heard of home care nurses that can come and make sure that someone is as comfortable as they can be, maybe if you can look into that they will be able to use more medication safetly. Thats just an idea though as I dont know if thats possible.
Avatar n tn seriously, if you want the energy/high, get some Oxy and do it right! ; ) taper, taper, taper. take only what you need to feel well. not for 'energy'. have a PowerBar or something. so take a tiny amount of sub, like 1mg and see how you feel in an hour. if you need a little more, have a little more, see how you feel. when you reach the point you feel well, that's going to be your dose to taper down from. IMHO people WAY over do it on the Subs.
