Avatar f tn Yes, they are safe. Most of us with cirrhosis commonly have an endoscopy and colonoscopy every year or so to screen and monitor the status of our varices. I have taken miralax many times with no adverse effects. What can more problematic is any anesthesia type drug(s) you may be given. I assume this procedure is being performed by your gastro and she/he is aware of your cirrhosis?
Avatar m tn I was scheduled for a bone marrow biospy and was given morphine for pain and sedation. I was given an injection into the iv and it had no effect what so ever. My blood pressure shot up to 188/90. The doctor sent me home without doing the biopsy. What just happened and why did the morphine not work?
Avatar m tn I have heard from reliable resources that Versed can/will eventually cause PTSD and anxiety attacks in almost %50 of the patients, since they will start remembering the pain and helplessness (if fentanyl is 80 times stronger than morphine, why should they use versed [the date rape drug]?) I'm curious to know if virtual colonoscopy can be used as an alternative. If polyps were found, then I will have to give-in to the procedure.
Avatar f tn t reember everything he said, but the basics were that he usually combines Versed with an opiate ( I think ) but instead he would just give me 2.5x the versed dose and I would be conscious but sedated. Which scares me. Everything I read about all the sedation options isn't very comforting. Can anyone make a suggestion? What should I ask him for that has the LEAST amount of side effects/complications. I really don't want it at al but he's insistent. HELP!
Avatar m tn "MARIJUANA;GATEWAY TO HEALTH" by Clint Werner. Briefly, I am a 'seasoned' RN Hospice Case Manager, and as such I am not offering medical advice, simply recounting my experiences. Over the years of my practice I have witnessed the benefits of cannabis for many of my patients.
Avatar m tn I have to have a biopsy next week and my doctor said they might give me Versed. I do not want to tell my family doctor I take Suboxin so I am thinking I will just pass on the Versed; they do numb the area first. Has anyone ever had Versed when on Suboxin?
Avatar n tn zofran, decoder, versed, sevoflrane, propofal, lidocaine, and fentangl?, along with morphine and cipro afterwards. I might note, there I times over the years that I've had bladder instillations in the office that have caused my chin or tongue to have a slight numbness or taste to it, but this is not always the case nor have I had neuralgia due to this.
Avatar m tn LOL. My aunt is a surgical nurse (retired) and she said versed is a wonderful medication that allows doctors and patients to be more comfortable during procedures. She said the difference in patient comfort since the introduction of versed is amazing! As for the meds, I was on antiarrythmics at the time of my colonscopy and did not have to stop taking them....thank goodness. I love the reference to type A PVCers...too funny!! We should have an acronym for that....
Avatar n tn * Halcion, Versed, Valium, Xanax and quazepam * Norvir * Zoloft and Lustral * Statins such as Lipitor, Mevacor, Zocor, Simlup, Simcor, Simvacor, with the exception of Pravachol. Lescol and Crestor which are unaffected by grapefruit.
Avatar f tn I had dental surgery, gyn surgery and a colonscopy with thousands of PVC's, no problem. I was really nervous that the PVC's would cause a big problem, but it didn't happen. The doctors were all fine with me haivng them, and in fact, even when I mentioned VT, they went ahead as planned. The sedation actually worked wonders on the PVC's!! During the EPS and ablation, the EP said every time they had me on the Versed, the PVC's would terminate.
Avatar n tn No, that wasn't normal and I'm sorry you had to go through that. It sounds like they didn't give you enough meds to start off with. You should not have felt or remembered anything during the procedure. I just had an endoscopy/colonoscopy done a few weeks ago and they brought me back to the procedure room and had me lay on my left side while they put an IV in.
Avatar f tn He was also having v-tach and his oxygen was on 100%. Oxygen saturation dropped to 82-85. They put the morphine back on. And they added Versed sedation again. Feels like we're going backwards again. And the nurse also gave something to lower his heart rate I asked if it was a beta blocker and she said yes.
Avatar n tn re in pain or feel any discomfort, just tell them and they can give you a shot of something in your iv - I got Morphine and something for nausea which worked in a minute or two. After recovery, you go back to your room and start the recovery process. Was it the easiest surgery? probably not, but certainly a surgery that saved my life at 42 - due to a dangerous heart rhythm. Hope that helps.
Avatar m tn My issue is that I need to have these exams done without sedation because of a previous bad experience with Versed in a dental procedure; the memory loss and nasty amnesia left me unwilling to undergo sedation again for any reason (I know that there are other agents, but I just can't do sedation). Anyway, everything that I read regarding patient experieces with these 2 exams is for sedated exams; can anyone tell me anything about getting them unsedated?
Avatar m tn Normally the anxiety resolves itself within a few weeks but this time it has persisted and continues on. Could it be caused by the morphine? This is my thought but the pharmacist said he didn't think it was. Also my doctor is suggesting 8 tylenol a day to replace the morphine. I am so skeptical of it being adequate though I know I can manage less than the 60 mg of morphine now. What are your thoughts?
684676 tn?1503186663 that got worse during 2nd week of detox, had some tests today, and now they have called and want another procedure that is more internal, and have said that I would be on versed (midazolam) & fentanyl. I am still not perceiving things 100% and of course have addict thinking, so when I said that I wanted no opiates and would rather have propanolol, the nurse did not seem to like my input and also my insurance may not cover it, .
Avatar n tn I am not sure what the circumstances are that surround your situation, but I do know that strokes are caused by a blood clot or a brain bleed. My mom just had 2 strokes and they actually gave her a morphine pump for her head because it hurt so bad. I do not think they would have done that if there was a chance it would cause more strokes. Keep doing your research though, I guess you never know!
1182699 tn?1297574784 Itdood...Thanks...that's good to hear...I'm thinking it can't be very strong...I've had versed and demerol for EGD's in the past and during the 3rd one had a reaction to the demerol, so the last one I had done they just used versed. Madge...I hate to hear that...you must have to be so, so careful! That has to be the scariest and most horrible feeling to have your throat close! Stay healthy!
Avatar m tn I have read many patient experiences about colonoscopy, some good and some are really scary, especially about the sedation....many patients have horrible experiences and seem to have encountered doctors who don't explain the side effects of the meds (amnesia, lack of pain control) and some of these are troublesome.
1751415 tn?1315069443 Hello! I wanted to thank you for the information on Morphine. I neglected to mention that it was not the hospice nurse but the nurse from the nursing home. We will mention this. I know that they use a Fentanyl (hope I'm spelling it correctly) patch and morphine by mouth. They were giving him the patch with Vicodin but I guess because his pain was increasing they switched to Morphine. We are due to have a conference this week. Again, thank you!
Avatar f tn I would be on the safe side and go get checked out. Morphine is a really strong drug especially if your pregnant.hope it all turns out good.
Avatar f tn Still have four more herniated discs from degenerate disc and also stenosis. Lots of pain but 150mg Morphine a day does the trick. Willing to give antidepressant a try......
Avatar m tn Morphine is a terrible one to quit ct....and I doubt that the Doc would want to prescribe enough Norco's to do the job...make certain the taper is long and slow....nausea and vomiting are solid w/d symptoms. Stay well hydrated unless you like your fluid I.V. - most of the MS prescribed outpatient these days is MSContin - morphine sulfate continuos release.
Avatar f tn He was very nice and helpful. He gave me morphine extended release 30mg tables and I need to take those 3x a day. I asked him about pregnancy and this medication. He said that there is always a chance of compilations. He said he has seen several patients that have gotten pregnant on this medication, some have tapered off of it and some continued to stay in this medication.
1148698 tn?1261715542 Hi..I'm new here and hoping that someone might be able to answer this question. Can Elavil be used as an effective means to releive morphine withdrawl symtoms? I'm about to go down that road and I know the agony of withdrawl from morphine and don't want to go through it again...or at least as bad as it was before. I have decreased my morphine intake from 150mg a day down to 90mg within two days.
Avatar f tn Ultrasound showed me at 5 weeks. When I was 5 weeks I had a migraine and the er dr gave me morphine even after confirming the pregnancy. Could I be having a miscarriage and could the morphine have caused it? I don't have any pain just bleeding more than spotting.
