1751415 tn?1315069443 You can consult his intensivist regarding this and dose needs to be monitored because of the risk of undue sedation and respiratory depression. Hope this helps. Take care.

Avatar m tn The irregular movements could be from the sedation. For the 19 days that my Dad was under the morphine his body made all kinds of involuntary movements. His legs would draw up into the air, and his arms would reach for the ceiling, along with telling bizzare stories of what was happening to him at night when none of us(family) were around. He had to go through physical therapy to learn to walk again, and to regain his muscle tone, but he did fully recover.
Avatar f tn I will ask the doctor tomorrow if I see him, I think they said they cant do that because his blood pressure will drop. When his heart rate goes up too high he starts getting atrial fibrillation and his blood pressure drops and his oxygen level goes down because he starts breathing heavily. They say it's due to a number of things. It could be anxiety, or the pneumonia, or just the heart. He has congestive heart failure so he has a weak heart.
Avatar m tn I was scheduled for a bone marrow biospy and was given morphine for pain and sedation. I was given an injection into the iv and it had no effect what so ever. My blood pressure shot up to 188/90. The doctor sent me home without doing the biopsy. What just happened and why did the morphine not work?
Avatar m tn Hi Dr.....I'm really concerned. My husband went to hospital on August 1st....stomach pain and general lethargy. We were on transplant list for only about 2 months. They gave him a lot of pain meds which brought on encephalopathy which really never resolved despite a ton of lactulose. On the 11th they told us they have a liver which was amazing! He had transplant and it was tough....they ran into portal vein thrombosis that they didn't know about so there was a lot of bleeding.
1382010 tn?1279643604 I'm on suboxone for two months n doing ok but I have hep c and need gallbladder surgery. What do they give you for pain in these cases? what if I have to be put to sleep? I know sometimes morphine is given for sedation this isn't going to work for me. Anyone had experience with this?
Avatar m tn I have a friend who years ago had several colonoscopies without sedation, and while they got thru it, it was unpleasant and something they do not wish to repeat. The exact opposite of those who get unpleasant side effects from Versed! So, I suppose they can cut off your arm without sedation, but you should at least get good and drunk before you go in! Ha! Just kidding.
Avatar m tn immodium over the counter to reduce cramping and diarrhea, clonidine to reduce the chills and sweats and provide some sedation at night, and perhaps a short course of lorazepam or other mild sedative to help with sleep. Most doctors 'don't get it' with regard to addiction; I often hear patients say that their doc told them to 'just stop the pain medicine' even after months of use. Sort of a silly suggestion for most people.
Avatar n tn Hello, A breif history - My brother was stabbed in the heart and went into cardiac arrest for an hour, The doctors and surgeons done a fantastic job in saving him. He was put under sedation for 2 weeks, they have now taken off the sedation but it appears that he is dependant on clonidine. So they gave him 4 mg an hour again after an episode of great frustration for him and a heart rate of 201 beats a min.
Avatar f tn We do it in our hospital under sedation and patients are usually with us inpatients for 5 days. If you need more info check opiates.com.
Avatar m tn If you need to have this procedure again, I would highly recommend against general anesthesia (totally asleep). This has a ton more risks then sedation and the entire procedure becomes more complicated. And when you wake up, your sore throat will be much worse because you will have the endoscope as well as a breathing tube down your throat. If you need this procedure again, I would recommend 2 things.
Avatar f tn In case you are curious, it takes us about three to four days to get a patient off of any opiate including Morphine, and feeling well. We withdraw you from all opiate under sedation and initiate long-term naltrexone therapy ti ensure protection from cravings.
Avatar f tn Many people have problems with twilight sedation, and the drug Versed has come up a lot as being the culprit. Therefore, you should ask the doctor to skip the Versed and instead use extra of the opiate type drug. You can find stuff online about Versed and print it out, in case you have to convince the doc of this. You should not have any problem whatsoever with opiates, they will make you feel wonderful, and there are no scary side effects.
Avatar f tn Yes, they are safe. Most of us with cirrhosis commonly have an endoscopy and colonoscopy every year or so to screen and monitor the status of our varices. I have taken miralax many times with no adverse effects. What can more problematic is any anesthesia type drug(s) you may be given. I assume this procedure is being performed by your gastro and she/he is aware of your cirrhosis?
Avatar n tn They were Able to rule out that he is not having seizures (although some of the nurses think he sometimes does) and said that they are myoclonic jerks. He is able to be on a low sedation now and he’ll be fine but as soon as they come off the sedation he begins to jerk again so they have to raise it up high to control it then they can come back down. Today is the 14th day in the icu. The neurologist comes every morning and he has since made progress with responding to pain.
Avatar n tn Is it possible that the amount of sedation was what killed her? I was her main caregiver for the last 2 years and sometimes it was a challenge but I would gladly do it all again. I just feel like I should have done more at the end.
Avatar f tn When the morphine was reduced she became very restless and was in obvious distress. Because of that we used the morphine as palliative sedation to give her peace. You can try to reduce the medication and always go back to it if it does not give her added quality time. I wish peace for all of you at this horrible time.
Avatar m tn And i gotta tell you, when I had mine done, I was suffering with months and months of constant diarrhea, I was a total wreck, AND SO because of the pleasant sedation, that was the best day I had that entire year! Ha! But not everybody says the same thing! Anyhow, just trying to help you deal with it when perhaps one day you might try one.
Avatar n tn It would be a good idea to let the doctor and attending nurses know of your concern so they can be alert for any possible problems. And have a family member sit with you as long as you are still under the effects of the sedation. Your title says you have sleep apnea - some take their cpap machine to the hospital but usually it is not needed. You'll only be under a short period of time, and even then it's not totally under. As long as everyone knows, you should be fine.
Avatar f tn Severe cases should be managed under consultation with a toxicologist and may require sedation, neuromuscular paralysis, intubation, and mechanical ventilation in addition to the other measures. Patients should also be advised of potentially additive central nervous system effects from these agents and to avoid hazardous activities requiring complete mental alertness and motor coordination until they know how these agents affect them.
539209 tn?1225972263 I have SFN, I was taking Lyrica and had dizzinees, drowsiness and sedation, I had to stop driving, and was sleepy all the time and I gained a few pounds. Talk to your doctor, mine changed my medication.
Avatar n tn They did put the mask thing on my face to prepare for the tube going in and once the doctor came in and was ready to start, they started the meds in my IV and I was knocked out. I didn't remember a thing until they were helping me sit up and told me it was all over. That's the way it should have been. You might want to look into getting another doctor or make sure you tell them next time that they didn't properly medicate you the first time. Do you know what meds they gave you?
Avatar f tn I take the morphine at 10am and at 8 or 9pm. The morphine does not last 12 hours like it is prescribed. Nor does it last 8 hours. It lasts only 6 hours. I am being forced to switch insurances at the end of the year so I am hanging on until I meet my new physician next year. Hoping some changes can be made to my pain meds at that time. I am sure you are experiencing great pain relief with this new medication.
