968560 tn?1307451498 Are there any pain killers that dont affect respiration. I'm taking hydrocodone and it makes it really hard to breathe.
Avatar m tn i have that pain for almost 1 month with fever, weakness and headache. and i feel it is respiration related because mostly i have the shortage in respiration.
Avatar m tn But the activity that goes on 24 * 7 is respiration and so contributes majorly to this shift. In case of hyperventilation too much of O2 OR too less CO2, both resulting in the same thing ie. increased body alkalinity and then a host of above mentioned ailments occur. Factors affecting respiration : 1. Posture 2. Chest wall, diaphragm , ZOA mechanics. Pattern of breathing wrt body structures 3. Nature of breathing 4. Tissue health and strength 5. Metabolism 6. activities of daily life. 7.
1830047 tn?1321667793 The peripheral system does not get the right impulses for respiration and hence the stoppage of respiration. As a result the person is aroused from sleep. Obstructive events are characterized by continued thoracoabdominal effort in the setting of partial or complete airflow cessation, central events by lack of thoracoabdominal effort in this setting. Mixed events have both obstructive and central features. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn Both are opioid analgesics, meaning they have a high affinity to the opioid receptor in the nervous system that reduces pain, respiration, constricts the pupil of the eye, causes constipation, and all other side-effects associated with opioid medications. The reason why different opioids are more or less effective in treating pain is due to how well that individual metabolizes and responds to those metabolites.
Avatar m tn Central sleep apneas are caused due disorders or lesions in the brain. The peripheral system does not get the right impulses for respiration and hence the stoppage of respiration. As a result the person is aroused from sleep. Regards.
Avatar f tn Respiratory depression from opioids is manifested by a reduced urge to breathe and a decreased rate of respiration, often associated with a “sighing” pattern of breathing (deep breaths separated by abnormally long pauses). Carbon dioxide (CO2) retention from opioid-induced respiratory depression can exacerbate the sedating effects of opioids.
Avatar n tn Yes, it will have quite an effect on her respirations but the cancer will also have an effect on the respiration and weakness. If it were one of my family members, I would not hold back on the pain meds. Does Hospice have a role in her care? If so, can you consult them as to the amount of medication she is receiving? You do not want to overdose her but at the same time, you do not want her to suffer.
1213664 tn?1273636584 Hi, I am from Puerto Rico, and here in this island the heat is something to worry about it, anyway; recently I notice that when I was standing up talking with someone, I start to become really bad, I start to feel stress in my muscles, I feel my legs weak, I feels sofocate, I feel my tongue dry, and I feel like I will fall down; but I notice that when I speak and even more if I am standing up, I don't make an adequate isnpiration, I think I speak really fast, and my respiration becomes inad
Avatar m tn The reduced respiration ability can cause the heart to beat faster, and the additional stress on the heart can cause an enlargement of the left ventrical to compensate. Also, there can be a crowding out effect where the hernia can push against the bottom of the heart that would also stress the anatomy of the heart. Thanks for sharing, and take care.
Avatar m tn I remember finishing a cycling or speed skating event, situations where heart rates could be over 200bpm, and as my respiration slowed, it became quickly apparent that while my breathing slowed, my heart rate was a steady 220 or so. So yeah, while jumping to 'hyperspace' from a resting pulse is very obvious, an SVT event at high respiration and heart rates might not be so noticible. For me, I couild function just fine and never felt like I might pass out.
Avatar m tn Normally the anxiety resolves itself within a few weeks but this time it has persisted and continues on. Could it be caused by the morphine? This is my thought but the pharmacist said he didn't think it was. Also my doctor is suggesting 8 tylenol a day to replace the morphine. I am so skeptical of it being adequate though I know I can manage less than the 60 mg of morphine now. What are your thoughts?
Avatar n tn I have seen tons of specialists and no medical treatment has worked out yet. The problem is that I can't relax because when I breath deeply that hurts. My sleep has degraded a lot too.
Avatar n tn I am not sure what the circumstances are that surround your situation, but I do know that strokes are caused by a blood clot or a brain bleed. My mom just had 2 strokes and they actually gave her a morphine pump for her head because it hurt so bad. I do not think they would have done that if there was a chance it would cause more strokes. Keep doing your research though, I guess you never know!
445725 tn?1206388767 Combining alcohol with antidepressants can greatly increase the effects of alcohol, which can include suppressing respiration and death.
Avatar m tn Well the legs require a tremendous amount of blood during exercise and I am sure having a low EF likely doesn't help accommodate that. Your blood is likely adequately oxygenated and hence the parts of your endocrine and nervous systems that regulate respiration aren't effected, but the increased demand in terms of flow isn't there in the legs.
Avatar n tn It appears that there is no structural pathology identified by available image sudies. Is aiw way patent? Do you have a paradoxical respiration? Seeing a respiration specialist is advised.
Avatar m tn Vital signs are a clear indication of heart attack. Rapid heart rate, impaired respiration, and increased blood pressure, etc.
Avatar f tn I am in my early 70s and having frequent hot flashes since going off my HRT in Mid May. I am taking some natural stuff but just started it. The name is Harmony by Dr. Lark. Just started it, so no results yet. However, something strange--I do not perspire--the non perspiring has been going on for at least 2 yrs. Odd. Anybody else have that?
Avatar n tn I have had chronic pain and some pulmonary problems along with mild pulmonary hypertension. I recently had a echocardiogram which showed "dialated IVC without collapse during respiration". In addition, I have some serious de-saturation during sleep I have to use oxygen 3L at night. My last sleep study showed no obstruction. I have read that "dialated IVC without collapse during respiration" is a marker for poor prognosis.
1751415 tn?1315069443 Hello! I wanted to thank you for the information on Morphine. I neglected to mention that it was not the hospice nurse but the nurse from the nursing home. We will mention this. I know that they use a Fentanyl (hope I'm spelling it correctly) patch and morphine by mouth. They were giving him the patch with Vicodin but I guess because his pain was increasing they switched to Morphine. We are due to have a conference this week. Again, thank you!
Avatar f tn I would be on the safe side and go get checked out. Morphine is a really strong drug especially if your pregnant.hope it all turns out good.
Avatar f tn Still have four more herniated discs from degenerate disc and also stenosis. Lots of pain but 150mg Morphine a day does the trick. Willing to give antidepressant a try......
Avatar m tn Morphine is a terrible one to quit ct....and I doubt that the Doc would want to prescribe enough Norco's to do the job...make certain the taper is long and slow....nausea and vomiting are solid w/d symptoms. Stay well hydrated unless you like your fluid I.V. - most of the MS prescribed outpatient these days is MSContin - morphine sulfate continuos release.
Avatar f tn He was very nice and helpful. He gave me morphine extended release 30mg tables and I need to take those 3x a day. I asked him about pregnancy and this medication. He said that there is always a chance of compilations. He said he has seen several patients that have gotten pregnant on this medication, some have tapered off of it and some continued to stay in this medication.
1148698 tn?1261715542 Hi..I'm new here and hoping that someone might be able to answer this question. Can Elavil be used as an effective means to releive morphine withdrawl symtoms? I'm about to go down that road and I know the agony of withdrawl from morphine and don't want to go through it again...or at least as bad as it was before. I have decreased my morphine intake from 150mg a day down to 90mg within two days.
Avatar f tn Ultrasound showed me at 5 weeks. When I was 5 weeks I had a migraine and the er dr gave me morphine even after confirming the pregnancy. Could I be having a miscarriage and could the morphine have caused it? I don't have any pain just bleeding more than spotting.
