Morphine and pulmonary embolism

Common Questions and Answers about Morphine and pulmonary embolism

Avatar m tn Take your symptoms seriously and be your best advocate when doctors try to brush you off. Morphine is good pain control and dilates pulmonary vessels to decrease shortness of breath. Blood clots in the lungs cut circulation and cause death of lung tissue. This is no doubt painful. The loss of lung tissue can cause parts of the lung to collapse. Pain should always be treated as described by the patient, not what the doctors think it is. Hope this helps. Well wishes to you!
Avatar n tn I had been diagnosed with pnuemonia and went home and for 2 hours sit in recliner....I got up and immediately felt pain in my right lower lung area....It was a pulmonary embolism and the kind of pain that I can't describe....plurisy was also diagnosed....I was put on blood thinners of course, and 2 rounds of anti-inflammatory ...but the pain has come back since I took the last of the anti-inflmmatory medication.....Is this a common thing or something more??
Avatar f tn s better to be safe than sorry with any kind of possible clotting. I had multiple pulmonary embolism in both my lungs last year. Horrible pain and a week in the hospital. As a consequence, I now have to take heparin twice daily to prevent the possibly of more clots forming. We are already at a high risk for clotting when we are pregnant, so the need for the scans were definitely higher than the risk for baby. PE kills people every day.
Avatar n tn Last Wednesday, 7 days ago, I woke up feeling bad. Like I had the flu but I wasn't sick. Later that night I began having a bad, deep throbbing in my right upper arm/shoulder. My arm was slightly swollen and cold like ice and felt real tight. This has happened before, but not accompanied with pain. I had insurance then and went to the dr and he didn't think or do anything of it. Along with my arm, my left leg was really weird feeling. I don't know how to describe it.

Avatar f tn I do take the birth control pill and I just want to make sure that pulmonary embolism is not a factor? What are the symptoms for that? I'm kind of scared. Advice is appreciated. Thank you!
Avatar f tn 3 days later (boxing day) I was rushed to hospital with chest pains and diagnosed with self imposed pulmonary embolism. I was put on to Warfarin and monitored in hospital for 2 weeks.
Avatar n tn Two comprehensive studies, Prospective Investigation of Pulmonary Embolism Diagnosis and Prospective Investigative Study of Acute Pulmonary Embolism Diagnosis highlight the importance of clinical probability assessment in patients with suspected PE. Clinical probability assessment in the Prospective Investigation of Pulmonary Embolism Diagnosis study was standard, sometime ago. . With this scoring system, 66.7% of the patients in the high probability group, 20.
Avatar n tn t too sure where to post this, I have been taking a daily dose of tinzaparin for the last 4 months to treat my bilateral pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis, and i have noticed my hairline receding and my overall head of hair thinning.
Avatar f tn Any clot can be fatal I thought, but those are almost always the unknown ones that break free and travel. Yours is known and being monitored (as much as sadely possibly) and treated. I don't think the nurse should of said that, especially of that's all she said and left you hanging. That kind of anxiety does a pregnancy no good. Think positive thoughts and hang in there.
Avatar f tn Symptoms of a Pulmonary Embolism Symptoms of a pulmonary embolism depend on the size of the clot and the location in your lung where it becomes lodged. The most common symptom of a pulmonary embolism is shortness of breath. This may be gradual or sudden. If you experience sudden shortness of breath, you should seek medical attention immediately.
Avatar f tn I have an interest due to my mum being diagnosed with a large brain AVM. She had a pulmonary embolism last week (no known cause) and is currently receiving warfarin and heparin injections. I am concerned that these drugs may not be suitable for an AVM person. She hasn't yet seen a consultant to determine treatment options for the AVM. I also wonder whether the PE could be connected to the AVM.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism two and hlf months ago and i still have a dull pain in my chest when i breath, it's like a knot there or tightness and i was just curious if that is normal, i have been on blood thinner after i was diagnosed i just figured it wouldn't feel like that anymore and i feel it mostly in the morning, just wanted to make sure that it's normal or should i go to the hospital?
Avatar m tn i am a 44 yr old male 6 weeks ago broke my rt tibia and had surg nothing complicated just to clean out the wound the bone was fractured but still aligned two weeks later i returned to the er with sever chest pain and was diagnosed with bilateral pulmonary embolism was put on blood thinners and sent home after 4 days i felt better but two weeks latter i had to return to the er for chest pain along my left side the pain is nearly constant but when i try to lay flat it becomes so bad i cant sleep
Avatar f tn s nurse recommended this and she was air transported to bigger hospital. Dr in ER thought she had Pulmonary Embolism. Her Dr saw her in hospital today and said she has pneumonia and caused her to have blood coming up when she coughed.
Avatar n tn A pulmonary embolus is not a heart attack and they are not related to each other.
Avatar m tn After 4 weeks, I was diagnosed with an acute pulmonary thrombo-embolism. I did not have the typical symptoms, but pain started after I breathed in 'CS' gas during an accidental discharge. I also had pertussis earlier in the year. My pain always started btw the scapulas, and as my respiration increased from very mild exercise, the pain radiated across my scapulas, to my chest, down my arms to my elbows, and across my lower jaw. I never had problems breathing; only the pain.
Avatar n tn It turned out I did not have a pulmonary embolism, but the doctors took my chest pain extremely seriously and would not let me leave the building until we had the test results. I, of course, was only worried about the baby, but had to agree with the doctor's statement: "Your baby won't survive if you drop dead." I later miscarried, but that was for totally unrelated reasons. So don't ignore your chest pain! I wish you the best.
Avatar f tn I called the Pulmonary Hypertension clinic I am seen at and they seem like a Pulmonary Emboilism is no big deal in a Pulmonary Hypertension patient. I am confused.
Avatar n tn it had gone to both lungs and being having problems ever since. The night I had this pain I ran fever and pain in chest and ribs and presure in chest and it kept getting worse where It hurt to breathe. I went to doctor and I was Addmitted to hosptail for PE. Ever since the PE i had chest pain and i felt i could not breathe.
Avatar f tn A pregnant woman could get deep-vein thrombosis, it is slightly more common in pregnancy than other times. Deep-vein thrombosis can possibly lead to pulmonary embolism. But one would have to ignore the deep-vein thrombosis for a while, for it to develop into a pulmonary embolism. Since DVT is noticeable and hurts, unless the woman was in a place without medical care, the likelihood of death is not high. Sweetheart, are you worried about dying in childbirth? They won't let you.
Avatar f tn Also I agree you need to have a D-Dimer to check for pulmonary embolism. I had these symptoms last week and they thought it was a pulmonary embolism, lucky for me it was just pneumonia.
Avatar n tn So I had what I and the doctors thought was pneumonia for 4 months. My symptoms were pleural pain, difficulty breathing, and fatigue. I had numerous x-rays, CT scans, visits to my GP and a pulmonologist, plus an emergency room visit when I couldn't breathe due to rib and chest pain, plus three rounds of antibiotics, but they could only diagnose pneumonia.
Avatar n tn I If a clot were to break loose, it would travel to the lungs and occlude the airways --- hence pulmonary embolism. Thankfully, you sought medical care and I hope you are now progressing well.
Avatar n tn As already you are prone to embolism, pulmonary embolism could also be the cause for your present symptoms. Burning pain in the legs could be due to thrombophlebitis. I would suggest that you get a Doppler of lower limb vessels, with ventilation perfusion scan of chest for making a diagnosis. Also blood investigations like clotting time and prothrombin time would help in assessing the condition. Consult your physician and take his advise regarding the above mentioned possibilities.
