Avatar f tn If the oxy stopped working as well, i switched to morphine at the same strength and vice versa. I have been only on MSContin and Dilaudid for 5 years now. I lowered my pain medications drastically over a matter of about 10 years.
Avatar m tn Someone very close to me has been using morphine for over 15 years, and has severe stomach issues that are to this day unresolved. He was hospitalized for 5 days about four years ago, and then for 6 days about half of a year ago. It only happens every so often, but it's really a concern, especially since none of the specialsist, universities, and the nations best health care can figure out what's wrong with him.
Avatar n tn I dont see how it could show up different, since the active drug in both oxycodone and oxycontin is the same drug, oxycodone. Oxycontin has been formulated where part of the drug is released as soon as you take it and the rest is made do dissolve more slowly. Thats why your not supposed to chew or break the tablet. It's like taking morphine IR or morphine ER. They will both show up as morphine.
Avatar n tn He saw a pain management team who had him on highest dose oxycontin, dialaudid, morphine (he had scripts for all at the same time!!!!). His family couldn't believe the amount of precribed pain meds they found in his apartment.. Really sad.............
517090 tn?1256727302 Oxycontin is twice as strong as Morphine - therefore, if your were taking 80mg Oxycontin a day, the equivalent Morphine daily amount would be 160mg. For your dental surgery you should have had painkillers over and above what you usually take. Your medical carers/providers/dental surgeon should really know about this sort of thing. I'd be a bit worried if I were you.
Avatar m tn I requested Oxycontin because I know it works and th 15mg Morphine Sulfate did nothing. I told my PM doctor that I doubled and quadrupled my dose for the 15mg and still felt no relief. I almost feel like its a placebo that they are experimenting on me with. Has anyone had any relief from being on this type of Morphine?
Avatar m tn But ur answer to ur question oxycontin and morphine are the same thing. They are in the same family. They also have the same ingredients but the only thing is oxycontin is a little bit stronger then morphine.
Avatar f tn However, my pain became worst so I was sent to a pain management doctor who know has me on 15mg OxyContin and 15mg morphine er. I have been on fentanyl, embeda and opana, Right now I have a spacer in my right knee because the staph infection was so severe they could not put in a knee yet so I still have one more surgery to go. My problem is the morphine er is not working or lasting so I have started taking 30mg of morphine with still no relief.
Avatar f tn It hard to cope. I know oxycontin is pregnancy category B and Morphine is pregnancy category C but I was curious if it is more likely for neonatal withdrawals form morphine or oxycontin? I think oxycontin has a higher molecular weight and therefore harder time crossing the mom baby barrier. Heard two moms taking 40 mg three times a day had no withdrawals, but didnt know it would be the same for the morphine or not. I am taking 15 mg twice a day of oxcycontin and 40 mg of oxycodone.
1325672 tn?1290084214 What do they usually use? And my drug store has a sign. No Oxycontin in store. The store wants three days notice. So if they give me that tomorrow. I will have to wait.
Avatar f tn Oxycontin and morphine would have the same withdraw effects, so if you are lowering the sum of your normal dose of either you will experience some withdraw symptoms. It is what people go through when they taper their dose to detox.....not full blown wds but slowly cutting down. After 4-5 days your system will get used to the lower dose. Why are you taking so much pain meds? Opiates quit working on chronic pain after some time. That is probably why your doc is switching you from one to the other.
Avatar m tn MS Contin (long lasting morphine) is not as strong as OxyContin. And it really comes down to what works best for the individual. Some ppl obtain little releif with Oxy's as compared to MS. I went int ER a month ago in acute severe pain (huge kidney stone) telling them that MS did not work well for me. Well they hit me with enough MS that it did reduce my pain significantly. Why than does MS Contin not redice my chronic pain to any degree???
210982 tn?1280983895 Yes although dosage and frequency of usage does matter. In my experience morphine, high dosage oxycontin and methadone are the most effective (and the most addicting) pain killers.
Avatar n tn Taking any kind of morphine or it's derivitives, including Oxycontin replicates the HCV virus. This is what I've read and I've posted this information a couple other times before. Methadone is a much better way to go as it is considered to be "liver friendly" and I hope nobody here needs to take anything for pain.
Avatar m tn Hello All, My PM appointment finally came today and it went rather well. Prepared with all of my notes I went in to see my awesome doctor. Remember I was worried about my urinalysis? Well guess what... After taking hydrocodone 4Xs a day and soma 3Xs a day and ms contin 3Xs a day, the lab results came back NEGATIVE for ms contin (morphine), and AGAIN TODAY!!
Avatar f tn Hi meg, Oxycontin is just oxycodone in extended release form. It is no more powerful than immediate release oxycodone. And morphine is actually less powerful than oxycodone. Oxycodone is 1.5-2 times stronger than morphine. The shape of a pill and whether the pill is a tablet or capsule does not tell you if it is extended release or immediate release. Avinza is extended release morphine than comes in capsules versus tablets.
Avatar f tn My Mom has serious back pain and is prescribed 60 15 mg morphine pills and 30 100 mg morphine pills each month yet she still suffers from chronic back pain. A Nurse told me she would probably be better off taking 2 20 mg pills and 1 80 mg pill of oxycontin each day instead. Is oxycontin a more effective pain reliever than morphine? My Mom isn't an addict and does not abuse them beyond what is prescribed to her. Please advise me.
699217 tn?1323438700 it means continuous, as in continuous release such as in oxycontin (oxycodone) and mscontin (morphine).
647120 tn?1256601651 When I started seeing a pain manager for chronic leg pain last fall, she said it was nerve pain without doing any diagnostics. She put me on morphine, and I've had ups and downs with it. Now I am considering going back to square one by weening off of morphine and seeing what my pain level is. It is almost a year since I had L4-5 spinal fusion, and I hate the side effects, costs, and stigma that go with taking this class of drugs. Has anyone tried this? What was your experience?
Avatar f tn I was put on ms contin about 18 months ago by the pain management clinic in Loma Linda CA for chronic pain associated with degenerative disc desease c3-c7, forminal stenosis, radiopathy, etc.... worked well to manage my pain at 30 mg twice a day. I quite my job in July 08 due to my chronic pain. Went to my internist asked to get of the ms and he told me to just delete to pm dose. Big mistake, thru me in to withdrawal, insomnia, body jerks, sweats, chills. Oh what fun.
Avatar f tn I was recently perscribed morphine for my fibromyalgia and spurs on my spine. My question is does the morphine make you really nauseated and throw up. The last few days the side effects have slowed down, but I would still like to hear some suggestions from people in the forum.
897990 tn?1248268956 Hi there... My brither had been addicted to Oxycontin for many years and has extremely high blood pressure. He has been going to the methadone clinic now for about a year and is on 25mg blood pressure meds. He has recently started chewing up morphine patches as well. He always has one in his mouth and is not functioning properly at work. He is right out of it all the time,,,he has withdrawn from all activities he just sits at home and watches tv...don't think he sleeps much.
Avatar m tn Recently I read that if you take more than 40 mg of OxyContin at one time then it can cause death or permanent brain damage. Well when I was ages 14 and 16 I took one of my mom's 80 mg OxyContin pill and I remember I felt like throwing up for like 16 hours straight. I took it in the evening, went to bed, and woke up the next day still very nauseous. I started to feel completely fine about 20 hours after I took it.
Avatar n tn Although Oxycotin come in 40 and 80mg Opana are more addictive even though they come in 10, 30 and 70 mg. This is because the it is a combination drug and is a mix of oxy and morphine. The problem is honestly probably that you are changing and the morphine is the change and now that you have stepped up you need more of the drug to feel better. How do I know this...I was on the exact same drugs a year ago.
725248 tn?1316162245 I can honestly say I have no trust in my doctor. They did have me on 40mg oxycontin for a while and then he pulled me off that and put me on Opana and that didn't work or at least the doesage was not enough. This has been a 3 year nightmare for me. I went in today and seen his PA and he wanted to put me back on 20mg oxycontin 3 times a day and I said no it was not working.
Avatar n tn at 16 went back on the pain meds because i just couldnt take the pain and tried to start with lower dosed ones like nucynta 100mg, ultram taking 250mg at a time then went back to the 10mg norco moved back up to the 10mg percs then they added the 30mg oxycontin back it was just a horrible cycle well last october i had a bad flair up and was scared because my doctors didnt really communicate with me they just throw scripts at me well i found a good doctor who put me on 30mg ms-contin 3 times a da
Avatar f tn They put me on lots of pain meds including morphine, percocet and oxycontin. I am home and have to go to PT twice weekly which is quite painful. I went to my surgeon on 11/2 and he said to wean off of oxycontin and oxycodone. He didn't explain how to go about that. My husband cut the oxycontin in half and I took that once at night and once in the morning for 3 days. When I thought about the next steps to get off the oxycodone, I thought to call the pharmacy for advice.
