Avatar m tn s to do the job...make certain the taper is long and slow....nausea and vomiting are solid w/d symptoms. Stay well hydrated unless you like your fluid I.V. - most of the MS prescribed outpatient these days is MSContin - morphine sulfate continuos release.
Avatar f tn Morphine is one of the worst narcotics for nausea and vomiting. However, given time it will go away. Try taking about half the prescribed dose to see if the nausea recedes, and gradually add back to the prescribed dose. You may end up doing better with a synthetic opioid like oxycontin rather than morphine. However, morphine is much cheaper than any of the synthetics, so if you can gradually increase to an effective dose with the morphine, so much the better.
Avatar f tn Took an awful long time to figure that I was SENSITIVE to morphine/codeine. After operations I went nuts with nausea and ITCHING...that dang oxygen thing up my nose!! I told them FINALLY about this that I finally had to figure out on my own and got on different anesthesia. WOW. What a difference!! Allergies imply something altogether different and one CAN develop an allergy to drugs such as morphine and THAT YOU don't want happening.
Avatar f tn That numbness on one side and nausea is a sure-fire sign of stroke, and it must be treated within a certain period of time to prevent damage from becoming permanent or disabling.
Avatar n tn my pain doctor has tried morphine(terrible nausea, and I stopped being able to eat! now he has switched me to straight anesthesia, and I feel worse. should I try dilaudid? my daughter told me it changes your personality. Is this true? I would appreciate any comments. signed: not sure what to do?
Avatar f tn At this point in time whenever a migraine comes on I have to go to the Emergency Room, and I am well known there, I get a shot of Zofran for nausea and a shot of either Demerol or Morphine, but it happens so often that I am unclear on the aftereffects and I am breastfeeding so what harm is it doing to my new baby?? I guess I just don't know what to do anymore!!

466909 tn?1207568232 In the case of a Morphine overdose, where a hospital is concerned that the high dose of Morphine may be dangerous (depressing breathing and heartrate), they may administer Naloxone (an opiate antagonist). The Naloxone finds its way to your opiate receptors and "competes" with Morphine for binding of the receptors. Because Naloxone has a higher affinity for the receptors than Morphine, the Naloxone will generally win out, replacing much of the Morphine at the receptor sites.
1052851 tn?1307741160 But, for some people, this is not a problem and they do not react this way to morphine at all and can take morphine without feel nausea what so ever. Our chemical make ups are all different and we all have different reactions to medications... some of us will have side effects, some of us will have allergies, and some of us will have the exact good reactions to the medication that the doctors want us to have.
Avatar n tn I am coming off of a mixture of opiates, but mostly tramadol and hydrocodone but with some oxy, roxy and morphine thrown in (my husbands prescriptions). Basically whatever I could get my greedy little hands on. I took 10 mg morphine yesterday morning and the day before that 20 mg of norco. I have went thru withdrawals before and this sensation always accompanies it. Is this normal? Also how long do these type of symptoms last.
Avatar n tn Meds affect everyone differently and it takes time for your body to get used to the new med. You will just have to see how you do on the morphine and go from there. I couldn't take it when my dr prescribed it for me. I did better on other meds. Best of luck to you!
Avatar n tn I was more then nauseated I was vomiting from it and it took almost 3 days for them to figure it out and get me off of it..... If the nausea continues do see about other pain meds.
1891806 tn?1391119037 My headaches are terrible, my nausea comes and goes throughout the day and my left arm and legs are bad. Since nausea is a new symptom for me, how common is it and how many of you got rid of the nausea after decompression surgery? I am scheduled for my first (and hopefully only) decompression surgery on July 21st. I don't know how I will make it until then. I am getting so bad. Any help or advise?
Avatar m tn Sounds like you need a cleanse, antioxidants, probiotics, fiber and exercise. You can either blame the morphine or do the above and feel better.
Avatar f tn I used fentanyl patches for a year and had an extremely high tolerance for opiates, 1 100mcg/hr has about 10 mgs of fentanyl. Fentanyl is 40 times stronger than morphine. So in essence, chewing one 50 mcg/hr patch is about 5 mgs of fentanyl which is equivelant to 200 mgs of morphine. That's like doing 2 and a half 80s at once. What they're doing is dangerous, end of story, take it from some one that knows first hand. I'm not a dr.
Avatar f tn You two said it much better than I ever could've! Thank you for saying it so...correctly.
Avatar m tn There is different doses of morphine. Who is to say how high of a dose he had took in your body. My dad had morphine and it caused delirium.
Avatar f tn I've been on Morphine Sulphate ER 60mg 3xday for about 18 months for a chronic pain condition (RSD). Boy, do I wish I had never started it or that my doctor would have warned me how hard withdrawals could be. I had no idea. I gradually went from 1 every 8 hours to 1 every 9 to 1 every 10, etc until I'm now on 1 every 12, but it took 6 weeks to get this far. Now my dr. only gave me 90 30mgs and I've tried taking 3/day and am having horrible withdrawals...
Avatar m tn Trying to figure out why this new pain specialist that I went to..to get off methadone would change me to morphine instead of lower my doses of methadone. It's been awful for me. He just seems to get too upset when I tell him I can't take the morphine and he has just continued to increase it. Then put me on fentany patches. I've told him over and over I don't want to continue on the morphine. He just kept saying that this didn't make any sense.
Avatar f tn After years of back issues, I had 5 surgeries in 19 months. All failed. Ended up on 150mg of morphine a day. Two weeks ago my doctor of 8 years told me there is nothing more he can do for me. Handed me a script for Percocet since I had not been on those for over 6 years and a referral to a pain clinic. Well I tried to wean myself from the morphine, and its not going so well. I filled the Percocet script but didn't take any while I was weaning. I am on hour 33 without morphine.

Avatar n tn I was paranoid and taking 8 mg every 3 hours and 3 mg of ativan daily. I wanted to die and spent my days sobbing and rocvking on the couch,. I went to my local ER and they did not know how to taper me off the dilaudid. I went to Lahey clini where an ER doc gave me the name of a doc who speicialized in this and within 3 days at a hospital was detoxed. This was Mid October. Now I am suffering from severe abdominal and sever back pain. I went to a pain clinic.
Avatar f tn Morphine and codeine are made from the opium poppy. Many people are allergic to these meds and do better with synthetic opiates like hydrocodone, percocet, fentanyl or methadone. You may not have had a true allergic reaction to the morphine, rather, you were simply overdosed. The same thing happened to my sister with demoral. Everyone reacts a bit different to these meds, depending on their own metabolism and the cause of the pain being treated.
