Avatar m tn I am afraid that you may have sphincter of oddi and it has taken its toll on your gallbladder. I say this because of your reaction to meds and attacks of pain. If you do have this your pains will most likely continue after the GB is removed but then you will need to see a specialist for SOD. Your GB will have to come out though since you it is barely working and you do not want to get an infection.
Avatar f tn Right after the CCK was put in his stomach started hurting again. Later that night he was in horrible pain and it's been worse ever since. His GI at OHSU won't do anything for it. They said that nothing points to gallbladder disease and the information on this has never been validated. Is there any research that I could bring to their attention?
Avatar f tn I was having problems last week and a little before. I had a ultrasound Tuesday and my gallbladder was full of gallstones. I was in so much pain I was given 2 shots of morphine and a shot of dilota in a 5 hour period and it still wasn't easing the pain. I got admitted to the hospital had emergency surgery the next day. Wednesday, May 1 2013. I feel so much better now that they removed my gallbladder.I was only 10 weeks pregnant.
427550 tn?1203908564 I had a HIDA scan on morphine and it worked fine. It showed I had a diseased GB and the morphine didn't make it worse during the scan .
Avatar f tn The reason we recommend removal of the gallbladder in patients with symptomatic gallbladder disease is because they have a 1 in 3 chance of developing a significant complication such as acute cholecystitis, pancreatitis, cholangitis, etc. The risk of death when we are forced to deal with folks in the face of one of these complications rises 100 fold. In real numbers it increases from a tiny risk electively to a level equivalent to open heart surgery or an aneurysm repair.

Avatar f tn I had emergency surgery to remove my gallbladder at 10 weeks I am now 16 weeks and feel a lot better! Mine was a constant pain for 4-5 days and the er was giving me morphine and dilota and it wasn't touching the pain so the admitted me and removed it the next day! Everything they gave me was OK for my baby. The pain meds and the medicine to put me to sleep during surgery was safe for baby.
Avatar f tn Yes I had them with my first baby and the attacks were terrible. You'll have to have your gallbladder removed and stay away from fatty food.
Avatar f tn This is very common in middle aged women and during and after pregnancy. Once a Gallbladder is not functioning then it will have to come out eventually. Since your level is so low then you probably will need it out soon. Normal is 35- 75 % Most surgeons will want to remove a gallbladder below 30% because it means the bile is trickling out slowly and it can back up causing damage to organs and other issues. Things like gallbladder flushes etc are not good for you so do not do that.
414347 tn?1294807038 I am not sure if there is but I suffered from a bad vertigo attack in July 07 had ER visits and all kinds of test that were normal and then in Nov 07 started with upset stomach and vomiting and just had my gallbladder out in Jan 08 (no stones). No one has told me that they are related but I wonder?
179856 tn?1333547362 This won't apply to many people on here but it's been asked a lot and hopefully someone looking can find this study. IV Drugs Users on Opioid Substitution Respond to Antiviral Treatment for HCV: Presented at DDW By Charlene Laino NEW ORLEANS -- May 11, 2010 -- Intravenous (IV) drug users who are on opioid substitution and infected with hepatitis C virus (HCV) can be successfully treated with antiviral therapy, researchers reported here at Digestive Disease Week (DDW) 2010.
Avatar n tn Doctor gave me morphine to subside the pain. After morphine was administered my stomach pain tripled and I was told that I was screaming and convulsing. The doctor said he had never seen anyone react that way to Morphine before. A few years later I found out after a HIDA scan with CCK that my gall bladder doesn't work properly less than %17. Am I allergic to Morphine or can Morphine have that affect given to someone experiencing a gall bladder attack?
Avatar f tn dont wait till uterus gets bigger..then its harder and gallbladder can erupt and thats toxic to u and baby!!!
1430743 tn?1302740667 Thursday night i had a much more severe attack and ended up at the ER again. They gave me morphine and sent me home with morphine orally. So here i am writing to see if im the only one in the situation. I have tried managing my food but i have always loved food and finding it very hard. I haven't eaten fried food at all. but i still get attacks. Im soooo depressed over this. My poor DH has to lose sleep along with me in the ER.
Avatar n tn I'm 14 weeks pregnant. Second baby. Iv had alot of gallbladder attacks at least 3 a week. They can't take it out apparently so I'm stuck suffering until I have the baby. The doctors give me morphine and gravol. Has any other moms gone thru this and is everything okay with the baby?
Avatar n tn In such cases the gallbladder may become scarred and stiff. Symptoms of chronic gallbladder disease include the following: Complaints of gas, nausea, and abdominal discomfort after meals; these are the most common symptoms, but they may be vague and difficult to distinguish from similar complaints in people who do not have gallbladder disease. Chronic diarrhea (4 - 10 bowel movements every day for at least 3 months).
Avatar f tn Yeah I seriously get told to go to the ER EVERYTIME I have one I wih I didn't have to go everytime is their a way you can stop the attack yourself mine are so bad to the point were i can't breath, i get super dehydrated and feel like I'm gonna pass out it *****....
Avatar f tn Gall Stones are a real pain, mainly the pain is brought on by dairy & fatty foods. You can usually tell which aggravates your gall bladder more if you keep a food diary and then you can pinpoint what foods affect you more when you have an attack. They recommend you cut out fat completely because your gallbladder cannot cope. I was told I had the common disease for a w'WOMAN OF YOUR AGE' and when I asked what they meant, they said a woman with the 5F classification.
Avatar f tn I had my gallbladder removed 20 years and have been unable to take anything containing codeine since then ..which I believe is caused by Sphinster of Oddi Dysfunction , which seems to be quite common after gallbladder surgery..My question is ...I am having a hysterectomy in a couple of weeks and worried about what I can use for pain relief directly after surgery , as I have read morphine causes the same reaction . Thanks. !!!
Avatar n tn She just had a hida scan and the gall bladder did not visualize after four hours, there was no morphine and they could not administer the CCK. The gastro suggested that she visit a surgeon and the surgeon feels that her physical symptoms are not suggestive of gall bladder issues, he said that she would be in more pain. As a bit of background, she has always been thin but from Sept-Dec. 2011 she lost about 20 pounds due to stress from finishing her college degree.
Avatar f tn Sound like you may have an ulcer and I hope by now someone has helped you. I don't know if you are still out there or reading these posts but my heart goes out to you as I am a witness. I had to demand this test and that test to be done because I was so sick and no doctor could seem to fix me either. I felt like I was doing all the leg work and paying all those doctors for, well for nothing really.
Avatar f tn I have lived with & paid for my pain many years on my Right upper quad....became a Vegetatarian and the later as close to a Vegan I coud be. Last week ended up in the ER with severe paid, nausea vomiting and headache....I soon passed out, I went to the Doc's office who sent me over for a CCK Hida scan that couldn't be set up until the following Firday. After a week of feeling like poo most days I went in for the test, My Right side was killimg me....
Avatar n tn I did. The hidascan yesterday and they had to give morphine to get the dye to go in my gallbladder. So it will have to come out but I have to wait until I see the surgeon to know how soon. I haven't been able to keep much down since the test.
Avatar f tn Second, if the source of your pain can be managed or eliminated then you can proceed with stopping the morphine. Morphine is an opiate pain killer that can be highly addictive. You should get help weaning yourself off of the drug. Coming off of the morphine will be difficult after 3 years of use. I would seek help from a doctor that specializes in drug addiction or find a pain clinic at a hospital that is experienced weaning patients off of addictive drugs.
Avatar n tn I have disease and gallstones and, yes, I get exactly what you describe and as a sidenote, same thing happens about 15mins before kidney stone activity.
Avatar n tn My mother has Crohn's Disease and I've had my gallbladder removed. I've been through hell since I had it taken out 2 years ago. Constant diarrhea - and only after I went back to the doctor and was prescribed meds to take the rest of my life, the diarrhea stopped.
Avatar f tn I agree...sounds like you have gallbladder disease. I had the same thing in '03 and ended up having my gallbladder removed. I didn't have stones either, but my gallbladder was "sludging" and causing severe pain. I hope you get your results soon so you can get some relief. Gallbladder pain is horrible!
