614471 tn?1221179194 ive just come off fentanyl patches onto the morphine so i can taper down, my aunt who died was addicted to heroin so i know a bit about it so i just wanted to know the equivalent so i can understand roughly how much morphine im taking. thank you to anyone that can help. kind regards, carrie.
Avatar f tn The withdrawl symptoms were in a word HORRIFIC. I saw my doc today and she put my on Fentanyl Transdermal System 12mcg/hr. Before I left the office she was kind enough to relieve my discomfort witha 10mg shot of morphine to cover the transition time. By the time I got the Rx filled an the patch on me ( that was about 4 hours ago ) most of the nice releive i got from the morphine was gone. I am now getting the creepy crawlers much like withdrawl and am very very cranky.
890735 tn?1261421725 Hi, I am not sure of the exact conversion rate but Fentanyl is 40 times stronger than morphine so taking that into consideration it sounds correct. Also doctors normally start Pt's out on the 25mc of Fentanyl and then titrated up as needed. Rarely is a Pt started out on higher doses. This way your put on the lowest amount that will treat your pain. Tolerance issues being considered the lowest dose is the best. I hope this answers your question.
Avatar m tn I was on both of those medications, and I went through quite a few other doses and medication types before we started fentanyl...and even then...we started a low dose patch and worked up from there. If I were you, I would get another opinion, or go talk to the doctor...something. There are many other meds available at much lower doses. Fentanyl is approx 88 times stronger than morphine. I am just bewildered as to why he would start with 50mcg, maybe it was a mistake.
1326023 tn?1274867436 They are great over there and can probably give you some first hand knowledge. I looked up a conversion chart for Fentanyl. I found a few charts and they are all basically similar. 315-404mgs of morphine is equivilant to about 100 mcg of fentanyl. Thats oral morphine. The IV morphine chart is different. I do know that fentany is one of the strongest opiate medications available.. I believe it is much stronger than oral morphine. At least that is what I have heard and read.
Avatar f tn And the dangers with Fentanyl, especially as it comes in Micrograms and not milligrams...it makes conversion even more tricky. We live in a world where there are people who scour the internet all day and read sites like this and use them in ways that they shouldn't...I am NOT trying to say you, or even the OP...but this is why I don't post things like the conversion tables or things in that way as I don't ever want to say that it's ok to use them ourselves... So...
Avatar f tn Her solution was to say she would prescribe the same morphine equivalent medication of morphine sulphate, but she wrote a prescription for thirty morphine equivalents less than the fentanyl patches. My pharmacist did not stock the medication and thought she meant to prescribe something for breakthrough pain. When I told him this was not the case, he offered to call the facility.
Avatar m tn My wife has been perscribed fentanyl patches and has been told not to eat grapefruit, does this apply to all citrus fruit ie.
Avatar n tn I don't know abt. the patch, it seems like it would prolong the withdrawl. Possibly delay the inevitable but give some relief. Are you withdrawling voluntarily or till your next prescription ? Usually by day 5 a person starts to feel better and alot of the really bad stuff is over. I really do think the fentanly is a bad idea but I know how being addicted goes, we just want it to go away. I hope the best for you and I wish I knew more abt. your situation to give a good opinion.
326947 tn?1252591233 I was on the 25mcg patch coming from 180mg of morphine a day. The conversion was low, and it never worked for me in over a month.
Avatar f tn I have never heard of a morphine patch. I have only heard of Fentanyl, or duragesic patches. I am sure they are similar though. They could have euphoria, itching, nausea, dilated pupils, sweating, overall sense of well being, constipation, etc. What have you noticed?
Avatar f tn Hi Glenn, Welcome to our Pain Management Community. Glad you found us and took the time to tell us about you. The Patch is working by now. Seventeen patches times three days each patch is fifty one days - if you're changing them every 48 hours that's still thirty four days. They should be working at full capacity within a few days, like 24 hours. You should be fine covering the edges with opsite. You may use Bioclusive or Tegaderm brand see-through dressings over the Fentanyl Patch.
Avatar f tn I have been on Fentanyl for years now and as a single mom I can say it took my pain away and didnt make me high (which I loved because I was able to care for my children.I will tell you it helps you sleep alot better and I really didn't have any problems transferring I went off oxycontin and onto Fentanyl. For some it is a lease 0on a new life.
Avatar n tn Is this morphine or Fentanyl? Are you sure it's point 75 (.75) or is it 75? What is the admin. route?
Avatar m tn my dr was recently fired at the pain management clinic i go and was recieving 4-5 lortab 10s a day. a new young dr has cut me down to 3-4 per day and wants me to consider morphine 2 times a day. the dosage i was taking helped but the reduction has really affected my comfort. im not sure what mg but i expect him to start me on 15 of morphine. will the morphine help me? should i talk to him about another option such as percocet?
Avatar m tn would they switch you over to fentanyl and then taper the fentanyl and then move you to an oral med???
Avatar f tn Upon that I have a bakers cyst in my knee and damage to my left hip... I have been on 50 mcg of fentanyl and 6 ten mgs a day for btpm. My tolerance has become high bc I have been in pain since 1999. I never thought there was help and didn't ask. The dr decided I needed it and any dr I have spoken to told me that I'll be on these the rest of my life.
Avatar f tn Hi gracie255, First, I want to welcome you to the PM (Pain Management) Forum and let you know that we are glad you found this Forum. We are all CP (Chronic Pain) Patients that help each other with our own expertise and experiences that we have developed through our own CP Issues. I read your Profile and I will add you to my Prayers!! Bless your heart, you are such a Brave Lady!! There's really not much of a comparison between the 2 meds.
Avatar f tn I did some research and some of the top side-effects with the Morphine are Headaches and Drowsiness and dizziness and being light-headed. There are many more than that but those are the ones that were at the top. I don't know if that helped you or not BUT I hope that it did. I really think you might want to consider talking to your NP about switching your BT meds.
Avatar f tn I feel like the transition to wearing them is pointless and I should just keep cheeking less and less. I feel better today. the morphine withdrawals really kicked my ***. I only have been taking the fentanyl for about a month and was taking a large amount of morphine on top of that.
Avatar m tn I thought you said you are on the Fentanyl but would prefer to return to the Morphine. Please clarify. And I do not think that once you take Fentanyl (25) and it doesn't work for you that morphine won't work for you again. We all have different systems and what works for one doesn't necessarily work for another. I tried it at the 25 dose of Fentanyl and though it worked somewhat I was severely allergic to the adhesive. It scared me too.
1751415 tn?1315069443 Hello! I wanted to thank you for the information on Morphine. I neglected to mention that it was not the hospice nurse but the nurse from the nursing home. We will mention this. I know that they use a Fentanyl (hope I'm spelling it correctly) patch and morphine by mouth. They were giving him the patch with Vicodin but I guess because his pain was increasing they switched to Morphine. We are due to have a conference this week. Again, thank you!
Avatar n tn Again, Fentanyl is 100 x as strong as Morphine... NOT 81% and NOT 40%. Call the pharmacy if you'd like to verify this. You can get addicted to ANY Narcotic out there, from Vicodin to Percocet to Fentanyl....doesn't matter which one. And ALL will cause w/d if you use them to "get high" and then stop suddenly. It's not just the "Big Dogs" everyone.... Your body will develope a "TOLERANCE" to any Narcotic also.......and a Pain Dr.
