Avatar m tn The doctor will immediately prescribe drugs such as diuretics, nitrates, and/or morphine to help you breathe more easily and to control your pain or anxiety. Your doctor may also order an oxygen mask. See: Heart Failure - Treatment Overview http://www.webmd.com/heart-disease/heart-failure/tc/heart-failure-treatment-overview You asked: "Is heart failure permanent???
237039 tn?1264258057 I have been given Morphine in the hospitals during my heart attacks, and most recently was given Morphine quite frequently. I was told last April, the reason they were giving me Morphine at short intervals is because it "oxygenates" the heart. As long as I had the chest pains they were administering the Morphine at 30 minute intervals. I protested the frequent use, but was told it was for that reason I was being given that much.
Avatar f tn How long should a patient stay on dobutamine? My husband 62 years old with chf and an effort of 10-15%. When last in hospital February 2017 where they put him on dobutamine and we decided on hospice care. Hospice is now hinting that they want to stop. I need to know if it is a money thing for them or it just isn't working.
Avatar f tn Today, Friday, March 4th, my husband went to Bethesda Hospital here in Cincinnati Ohio. He went there around noon. He called a half hour ago at 5 pm. They gave him morphine, said they found nothing wrong and told him to follow up with the VA. I am now having my sister pick me up so we can drive to pick him up......How frustrating !!! They gave him morphine...and that's it ?! On the phone he still sounded terrible. What are they not seeing ?

Avatar f tn My Mom is in end stage COPD and CHF and it has been a battle of "wills" and "won'ts" between my sisters and my mothers care....My Mom is on Hospice care and I believe in there "mission" for "comfort care" but my sisters think that my Mom is/will become a "drug addict" (my Mom can be given Morphine and Ativan if her respirations get too high... (and my Mom has been having respirations up into the 40's - normal is between 18 to 20....
Avatar m tn I have been through the nausea and vomitting, and severe swelling from the CHF, and now I do dialysis 6 days a week. Considering where I was a year ago, I feel healthy. I hope this helps......
898849 tn?1241811271 It is very important to get these shots especially if you have CHF. My mom had CHF and always got these shots. The pneumonia shot lasts 15 years. People who have CHF are more prone to getting pneumonia. It does not cover every strain of pneumonia, but covers quite a bit.
Avatar n tn At the ER last month, I was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and pneumonia based on a X-Ray, CT Scan, Pro-BNP test, and an EKG. My EKG was abnormal (enlarged heart, etc.) and my Pro-BNP test score was 4996, which from what I have seen, is very high. I was very swollen and my oxygen level was low (70%). They gave me a bunch of medications including a diuretic. All of this made sense when I looked into it, because I have EVERY symptom of CHF.
Avatar f tn I have COPD and CHF and had a stent put in two year's ago and found out it is now 60% blocked. I am concerned because I had been told because of COPD, not a candidate for surgery. So, my question is can they put another stent in or what or the possibilities now?
Avatar n tn Do you have a diagnosis of CHF? This is NOT meant to imply that you do, but it helps to better understand your situation regarding hemodynamic stability.
Avatar m tn Ive read so many warnings about the two together Im a mess worrying--Thank you * Hepkitty* I have been on valium 25 yrs so not a good time to quit it--Please tell me this is ok-- I sleep a lot but been thinking it is chf--I take 2 mgs in am and 2mgs in pm of valium and 120 mgs long acting Cardizem in am
Avatar n tn I agree 100% that you need to change doctors right away! First off if she only had time for one issue on this visit, she will only have time for one visit on the next!!! Your swollen feet and ankles could most certainly be from CHF and you don't want to fool around with that at all! Do yourself a favor and find an internal medicine physician. When you make the doctor appointment, ask them what their usual wait time is and you can bet if they tell you an hour or more, keep searching!
Avatar n tn My mom has CHF and her heart has a moderate EF and the doctor says that she should think about having a heart transplant. As scary as that sounds to her she is thinking about doing it. I want to ask if she doesent get it done than will she have a chance at living with heart for the next 5 years? And how secure is a Heart surgery..I am scared that she will not wake up and if so how well do people live after they have had a heart implant?
789402 tn?1243630044 you can go to the cleveland clinic website and actually pose direct questions about all this and any thing else i gather concerning CHF. he told me there is a cardiac nurse who answers all your questions, give it a try.
Avatar f tn Hi, I was diagnosed in a ER with CHF a couple of weeks ago and the cardiologist I am to see is on vacation. I was placed on lisinopril, lasix, and propanolol as a preventive by my PCP while waiting. I have been coughing lately and I saw somewheres that coughing may be a lisinopril warning sign. Is this correct. I do not see the heart doctor until next friday for final diagnosis and future planning. Thank you in advance.
Avatar f tn If a cat is on sub-q fluids for a short time and becomes very lethargic, isn't that a sign of possible CHF? And wouldn't or shouldn't a veterinarian recognize that and stop the fluids and do an x-ray?
Avatar f tn My 13 yr old dog is on medication for chf. She is taking enaliphrIL and lassix. It seems to be working for her. Her coughing has gone away and has been gone for 6 months, maybe coughing randomly every once in a while. Today when my husband and I got home we noticed she wouldn't get up and when she finally did her back legs weren't holding steady and she would fall over. We also noticed yellow foamy throw up on her bed.
Avatar f tn My dad had CHF and has been in the hospital for about a week now and they have been doing a lot of blood work and I have some of the result but haven't been able to pin the DR. down for a few minutes, I never seem to get there at the right time, hopefully someone here can help me. He has had CHF for about 10 years and the last 4 have been really bad , getting worse with time. He was admitted as 4+ edemiatic, CHF and Kidney issues.
Avatar f tn t believe it would say right then and there a patient is in CHF. A patient with CHF has the symptoms of the disease and tests such as a BNP would diagnose that. People aren't in CHF 24/7 ; they have periods where they go into CHF; there are times when a patient who has been diagnosed with CHF may be doing well.
Avatar m tn ) She was diagnosed 2 years ago with COPD, then CHF and pulmonary hypertension. She is currently using supplemental oxygen therapy 24/7 @ a rate of 5 - 6 LPM. What might be the benefits from a life expectancy perspective and a quality of life perspective as compared to the stress of a move to sea level, (Florida - high humidity)?
Avatar m tn Can I in some way improve that and am I more susceptible to chf because of it. I take 40mg lasix once daily, is that enough?
1132705 tn?1260482521 It is used in patients of renal failure with fluid retention and not in patients of CHF without any underlying renal failure. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
Avatar m tn These results suggest that aspirin should not be routinely used in CHF patients and be avoided in those with refractory CHF, but that it may be beneficial in patients with recent infarction or multiple vascular risk factors. Have you talked to the doctor about the benefits and risks of increased aspirin therapy?. Recent research indicates an appropriate dose of aspirin is between 80 and 160 mg per day. This is actually half of the standard 325-milligram aspirin commonly prescribed.
